Coronavirus in our area

"  It is hot and this bug doesn't like heat. "

Oh my. Where do you get THAT misinformation Maincoons?

Please research.

Stop spreading falsehoods and debunked myths.

These can lull us into a false...and risky...sense of complacency.

Trump also believes that "The heat, generally speaking, kills this kind of virus.” So you share your misinformed opinion with other "stable genius" company. 😄

Research is changing DAILY as scientists learn more about the reality and trajectory of this virus. Start your current research right here perhaps, where we read that "The impact of the virus is as serious in hot-humid weather conditions of Singapore as in the colder environment of European countries."

Zat so?

You stopped looking too soon  More are pointing out viruses do not like heat and sun.  Simply citing Singapore ignores the fact it is densely packed and very difficult to isolate oneself from the masses of people.  It is probably better proof that cities are not a good place to be with this bug.

We are coming on the season here where it is hotter, drier and sunnier every day.  I'll take my chances with this over the cold and damp which keeps people indoors up north.

I understand why the Canadians feel they must go home.  It's about their national health insurance coverage requiring them to be there a certain number of months.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, the majority of Canadian travelers aren't out of the country for more than the required amount of months. Most are just on vacation. I think it has more to do with Canada protecting its citizens and not wanting them to get stuck in a foreign country, panicking and demanding that the govt, get them out, if the borders are closed.

This information comes from doctors currently on the front line fighting the virus who can help a large number of people.

"We don't stop the virus with panic, but with intelligence.

Here is new information from a researcher from Shenzhen transferred to Wuhan to work with the Coronavirus epidemic task force.

The following information is clear, simple and accessible to everyone, describing exactly what the virus is, how it is spread from person to person and how it can be neutralized in everyday life.

Coronavirus infection does not present itself as the usual cold, with a runny nose or a cough with cathars and sputum, but on the contrary with a dry cough.  This is the first sign to identify properly.

Important to know: the virus does not resist heat and it dies if it is exposed to temperatures of 26-27 ° and above.  It is therefore very important to consume during the day all possible hot drinks such as tea, herbal tea, broth, soups, or simply hot water.  The hot liquid neutralizes the virus and it is not difficult to absorb them.

Important: Especially avoid drinking iced water or sucking on ice or snow for those who are in the mountains, especially children.

For those who can, it is important to expose yourself as much as possible to the sun in accordance with your current climatic conditions.

Number 1. The Coronavirus is quite large, it has a diameter of about 400 to 500 nm.  This means that any type of mask can stop it.  In day to day life, therefore, it is not necessary to have special masks.

The situation is different if you are a doctor or medical staff and you have to be exposed to strong discharges of the virus and in this case it is essential to use special masks.

If someone who has already been infected sneezes in front of you, and they are 3 m away, it will cause the virus to fall to the ground and therefore prevent it from reaching you.  This is the reason why a safe distance is important between people.

Number 2. When the virus is found on metallic surfaces, it survives for about 12 hours!  It is therefore extremely important when you touch metal surfaces such as doorknobs, doors, household appliances, grab handles on trams, etc.  wash your hands well and disinfect yourself carefully.

Number 3: the virus can live hidden in clothes and on fabrics for around 6 to 12 hours.  Normal detergents can destroy it.  For clothes that cannot be washed every day, if you can expose them to the sun or a source of great heat which will kill the virus.

How the virus manifests:

1. The virus first settles in the throat, causing inflammation and a feeling of a dry throat: this symptom can last 3 to 4 days.

2. The virus travels using the moisture that is present in the airways, it travels down the windpipe and settles in the lungs causing polmonitis.  This passage lasted approximately 5 to 6 days.

3. Polmonitis manifests with high fever and difficulty breathing, and it looks nothing like an ordinary cold.  You may even feel like you are drowning due to difficulty breathing.  In this case, it is essential to immediately call an emergency care service.

How to avoid the virus:

 1. The transmission of the virus occurs in the majority of the cases by direct contact, by touching fabrics or materials on which the virus is present: to wash the hands frequently is absolutely essential.

The virus survives on your hands for about 10 minutes, but during these 10 minutes a lot can happen: rub your eyes or scratch your nose for example and allow the virus to enter your throat!

So, for your well-being and that of others, wash your hands as often as possible and disinfect them!

 2. you can gargle with a disinfectant solution that eliminates or reduces the quota of the virus that might have entered your throat.  By doing this you will eliminate the virus before it enters the windpipe and then into your lungs.

 3. disinfect your computer keyboard and mouse, not to mention your cell phone and desk phone.

We all need to pay close attention and take care of ourselves for our well-being and that of others.  "

A version of this warning was posted on TOB a day or two ago and since then deemed most likely to be BS. There are tests that show CV can live for up to 3 days on surfaces, not 12 hours. Most viruses and bacteria thrive in warm conditions, that's why hospitals and medical facilities are kept so cold. Viruses spread in winter because everyone is inside together. When it gets warm people spend time outdoors, not so close, and more importantly, in the sun. UV kills viruses. The virus thrives in the human body which has a temperature of close to 100. To think an ambient temp of 85 will kill it makes little sense.

Not about sarcasm at all and frankly your post is rude, personal and out of line.

We have two choices:  We can take whatever precautions are available and reasonable and prudent, as my wife and I have, and keep our spirits up and our sense of humor or we can wallow in doom and gloom and get nasty with anyone who doesn't care to do so as you have.   Let's face it, there's more than a little madness and humor in this scramble for toilet paper when faced with a respiratory disease.  These people panicking and packing the stores like scared sheep have earned some fun being poked at them.

It is a well known fact that positive mental attitude is key to health and surviving illnesses.  You may want to rethink your approach to this.

Adults don't go apocalyptic and learn by experience to take things in stride.  I have survived a lot of these predicted catastrophes and so have most of us here.  I'm the son of parents who survive the Great Depression and WWII.  I have COPD which makes me even more vulnerable.  I'll either survive this or I won't and moaning and groaning and weeping and gnashing isn't going to change that one bit except, as noted, it may actually make any illness I contract worse.

We're doing everything we can and have our affairs in order as people our age should.

Lighten up please.  It will make things better for yourself and those around you.

Amen, amen, amen!!!

While we don't have a housekeeper, anyone who decides to forego the services of their regular person for the next weeks/months ought to continue to pay them, IMO.  Or if they decide to stop their services permanently, they need to be mindful of severance pay requirements.

Of course we will continue to pay her.  That is not the question.  The question is whether if we are going to really self isolate as seems to be the main remedy at this point does it make sense to have someone coming into your home who is not doing so and is surrounded by family, going to tianquis, etc.?

You risk looking like you are treating them as a pariah.  And you are assuming they lack the skill and knowledge to wash their hands, to stay away if they or close family members are sick, etc.

You're missing the point.  They are not isolating.  They are fully exposed.  Washing your hands is not the cure all.

I'm looking for a serious discussion here of the health aspects of having someone who is being fully exposed otherwise coming into your home where you are trying to follow the medical advice and limit all outside contact.  This is not about who is the best SJW.

Most of the time our domestic help are fairly young and hence much less likely to die from this.  We are old and the death rate in our cohort is quite high.

To have someone who is fully exposed in close contact with your environment routinely seems to me to be self defeating.

BTW this does not seem to agree with what we are told by many sources:

Go ahead, protect her and yourselves but you may want to give her an explanation so that she and her family can let others know (via text or cell). I doubt very much that any of our helpers are reading the same newspapers that we are and are aware of what is going on in the rest of the world. Certainly the Mexican government has their heads in the sand.

Three days ago you posted this after Open Circle was canceled, a large group sitting side by side for over an hour.  Now you want to lock-out your housekeeper.  Quite the sea change!

Everyone will have to decide what's best for themselves.

so...if our normal body temperature is around 37 Celsius, why doesnt it die then ( when entering our body )

Exactly why I posed this question.  To find out what the thinking is here, not to have a SJW discussion or get personal.  Would you care to join us?

Rony, #1 is not supported by other sources that claim masks do not help much.  There seems to be agreement that people with the disease should wear masks but they don't do much to prevent the wearer from getting the disease.
