In search of Landscaper

She did a search for a landscaper. The search results did not reference any with knowledge of which Flora were dog safe.

There are enough people Lakeside with anywhere from a single dog to dozens. I have NEVER heard or read about a dog being poisoned by a plant in their yard, but hey, shit happens. One could consider doing some research on Google and also with their own veterinarian until they find this specialist.

There are plants that will cause intestinal distress or poisoning in dogs and the calla lily is one of them. I no longer have any in my garden. Dogs are usually looking for something to help an upset tummy (like plain old grass) and pick on the wrong plant. They don't know the difference so it's up to you because I highly doubt that any landscaper will know.

Here's one link (that leads to another link with more)...

Toxic Plants for Dogs per Mr. Google
  • Amaryllis. Popular during the spring holidays, this plant can cause vomiting, depression, diarrhea, excessive drooling, and tremors.
  • Azalea. ...
  • Bird of Paradise. ...
  • Daffodil. ...
  • Eucalyptus. ...
  • Hyacinth. ...
  • Hydrangea. ...
  • Iris.
  • Plus many more
Sharon experienced language barriers with 3 landscapers thus the request for a local lakeside person with the desired information. Google translate was no help.

I did advise her to expect unhelpful,  supercilious comments from some.

Thanks for the link Ferret.

Give Roberto Delgado of Chapala tree service a call - speaks English - His partner Luis does landscaping.  Speaks English also. 331-411-0242 or 762-0602  They are well known and very professional and in business for many years here. Not the cheapest but worth it.  There are plenty of grass cutters here and not many true landscapers.

Another vote for Chapala Tree Service.  When we moved to this house we had them do a major clean-out as the grounds were somewhat neglected by an absentee landlord for 10+ years.  We have had them add new trees/plants/bedding areas as well.   They treat our tall palms every 3 months against the beetle that has decimated palms in this area.  We also have our half-dozen Italian cedars (those really tall ones) treated annually as they are prone to disease as well.

When their crew is here for the above services we have them trim other tall trees and landscaping plants that are too tall for our gardener to reach from his ladder.  His crew works fast and they wear safety equipment.  They haul everything away and rake the areas they worked, leaving everything tidy.
