HarryB
Where would be the best place to get the machine here? Also the cleaner machine? Any other advice?
MtnMama
It's much cheaper to have someone 'mule' it down from NOB. They are very hard to get thru customs but easy to bring on a plane. I would also suggest considering an automatic model. They make slight changes as needed to the air flow and I find it a big improvement. CHILLIN
This is without a doubt the best place in the U.S. if you are looking for a good price https://www.secondwindcpap.com. There seems to be only one dealer in all of Mexico, they are expensive to purchase and expensive to repair. They are called Resmed and I have gone through two of them. Don't know what you mean by cleaner, is this something new like ultrasonic or an airfilter? In the U.S. and Mexico these are considered to be medical devices, only to be prescribed and setup by professionals. Many of the companies have medical sounding names and get tagged by Mexican customs. I have never had a problem with secondwind, but you can breakup the order and they will labels as parts. simpsca
You will need a prescription from a doctor and a Mx doctor will do that to you. You can email or fax it to a CPAP company in US and have someone bring it down for you. If you know your setting (pressure) the US company will set it for you. They are way too expensive here. This is the company I have used and they are having a sale right now on a $500 machine for $249 and shipping to a location in US is free. https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machines/cpap-machine

They are easy enough to set or reset yourself. There are plenty of written instructions via Google and videos via Youtube. At some point we all need to make our own adjustments. HarryB
thanks for all the advice. I see on SHAW that there are machines that clean the CPAP and are vital to preventing illness from the use?

I have an interest in this as well as I am on oxygen machine indefinitely for 16 hrs./day. Lots of med things are on TV these days, some not necessary and some downright dangerous. MtnMama
I think the 'cleaning machines are a luxury rather than a necessity. They are NOT vital but if you have extra $$$ that you want to spend, probably nice to have. I use baby shampoo, have for nearly 20 years, and haven't died yet.

Some think that if Bill Shatner the actor says so it must be so🤣. Perhaps we should all wear corsets because he does🤣.
Susy Wilson
I have used a cpap/bipap for over 12 years now. The very nice one I have currently I purchased used on Craigslist for less than half the price of a new one. The cleaning machine is totally optional. It is quite easy to clean your reservoir, mask and hose yourself. Not a chore and not really anything you can screw up. The most important part of using a cpap is that you really need to use it. Many people find it too difficult or uncomfortable. It took me about 4-5 months before I was comfortable. My mom needs one and has been diagnosed and purchased a cpap and she just cannot or more to the point will not do the work to get used to it. I will be going back to the states in March and would be happy to find one for you if you are unable to do so before then:-) Also happy to help with explanations and what to expect when you do use it! Dr.s that prescribe them should be users so they actually know what the heck they are talking about:-)

She said the ozone that cleans your CPAP generated by the cleaning machine sometimes destroys delicate seals in your machine. She did not recomment it. I clean my machine water tray, maks and hose with Dawn dishwashing liquid.
mexilady
Harry we have a Remstar we could lend you until you get someone to bring you one from the states. Do you know what pressure you need? This is just a straight cpap. Jim now has the bi valve one that adjusts the air flow each time you exhale and is much more comfortable to use. Email me at: mexilady@ymail.com if you are interested. Linda
HarryB
that is so sweet of you. With the holidays , I have yet to get the prescription from a pulmonologist (SP?) here. I had the sleep study done in the US over thanksgiving. I stop breathing 178 times in the study and 150+ are more than 5 seconds.
mexilady
Well then Harry you should be on a cpap asap! When Jim had his sleep study done they woke him up after 20 minutes and ordered a cpap for him immediately. Let me know and I can bring it into town for you. JGiff
Hi Harry I will be in Chapala on January 10th and I have a Resmed AirSense 10 Elite with Humidair. It is 4 months old and I used it for only one month. I was borderline needing it when I took the test and I just can't get use to using it. It has the nasal mask not a full face mask. I am not sure if you can get the pillows or filters there but you could order them online. It has the carrying case and all the instructions. You can pm me if you are interested. This is the machine I have used for over 20,000 hours with nary a hitch. I like it so much I bought a lightly used back-up shortly after we arrived here three years ago. The VA gives this machine to vets because they have found it to be the most reliable machine of the many they have given out. Harry, if you're smart, you'll consider this offer. mexilady
I agree with chapalence. If you don't like the nasal mask I have plenty of full face masks and head gear.
MtnMama
Harry the Resmed is a heck of a deal IMHO. The auto feature means the machine adjusts to your needs throughout the night rather than a single pressure. In theory you wouldn't even need to see the doctor before using it, but I wouldn't recommend that. I have a similar machine and it's wonderful. You won't believe how much better you will sleep.
