The best way of all to get rich is the simplest one: be born rich. Another one is to be born with more than the average amount of brains or beauty. As my dad said: "you can marry more money in 5 minutes than you can earn in a lifetime. (I didn't do that, any more than he did.) If you happen to be born dumb and ugly into a poor, uneducated, family, then the concept of "taking responsibility" young and working your butt off is an alien concept and the likelihood of ever having more than subsistence is unlikely. Of course, there's always cottoning up to a criminal and sharing in the take. Am I a cynic and a "realist"? You betcha. Was I lucky in life? More so than many. Did I also work my tushie off for years? Absolutely. Do I expect to change anyone's mind who still believes the "Horatio Alger" theory applies to everyone? Of course not.😉 Now, would one of the mods please split this thread as appropriate so as not to confuse people who think it's going to be about female underwear?😁 Here ya go gringal. Chances are very strong that you'll never get much beyond poverty. What, exactly, is your point??

I think you're going after my statements as though I were one of those advocating radical Socialism. I'm not; only pointing out how our present society works in real life; not suggesting anything be changed. I know better. No matter which point of view is in power, there will always be some kind of imbalance. Radical Socialism and Communism simply DO NOT WORK, as demonstrated by Russia and China. johanson
How about us men when we buy underwear, should we be allowed to try the product on? We come in different sizes as well. Edit: I am talking about size of ones waist, I think.
Ferret
No and nor should women be allowed to try on underpants. That is a matter of hygiene. Trying on a bra is no different that trying on a T-shirt.

Sorry that I actually care about working towards a better world for all, not just spending my days going out to eat, taking Fluffy to the groomers and peeking out the window to see what the neighbors are doing. There was such a high level of negativity in that first post that it brought on the comment. The latest one suggests that you think others spend their days doing nothing for their community but are idling away their lives taking "Fluffy to the groomers", going out to eat and peeking out the window. Gag. In other words, displaying an attitude of superiority to your fellow expats. After that, it doesn't matter what fine intentions you may have or what good works you are doing. You can't expect "no comment" after that. I'm coming from 15 years of living here and have been doing what some would say has been more than my share of contributing to my community. I fully recognize that I moved into their territory, not vice versa, and when they want change, it will be up to them to set priorities. I'm not suggesting that you "go home", but that you consider an "attitude adjustment" before lambasting the state of things on a public forum. 🙃 2

Surely you can not be saying that anyone who is not constantly complaining, criticizing, and crusading for change where they live is a dottering old restaurant goer with a fluffy dog. See how unfair and silly that sounds?

RVGRINGO
"Thread wander" might be the result of confusion on the part of those caught up in the bewilderment of finding themselves in a culture that they do not understand, cannot communicate with, don't know este from oeste, and find poniente to be a spot, instead of a direction. Unable to read, or speak, they behave in childish fashion, reacting spasmodically to the slightest unfamiliar stimulus. Wandering about, lost and often in fear of the unknown, they do nothing to remediate their condition, and remain unable to find anything, or to solve the simplest of problems; even with the help of Google; which also works well in almost any language. No, they don't need to "go back where they came from", but they do need to begin the process of "self help", rather than always depending upon others to hold their hands. Often, the wandering thread is simply an indication of "the blind leading the blind".
