WHY SOME FOREIGNERS PREFER LIVING AT THE WEST END OF THE LAKE

Recommended Posts

Why some  foreigners prefer  moving to  the West end of Lake Chapala.

1.The plaza is one of the most spacious and  beautiful around the lake.
2. There is rarely a traffic problem in the country like setting.
3. The weekly Thursday outdoor market is very large and provides a great variety of produce,
food, practical items, clothing, gifts, toys, homeopathic, pet essentials, etc.
4. During the rest of the week there is the Ma rketplaceopen everyday and a variety of stores where
everything you need is provided.
5. The Aurera Bodega which some call the Little Walmart has a great variety of things needed
in everyday living.
7. The Lakeside park  is one of the most beautifully designed so that you can walk out into the lake area
on several docks and enjoy all the wildlife.
A variety of sculptures and picnic areas abound to enliven the experience there.
8. A brand new hospital sits on the hill looking down over the lake.
9. Nearby is a unique entertainment experience: a real dolphin and macaw parrot show.
10. Throughout the town of Jocotepec you can find just about anything that you think you might
need from Home, Depot, Costcos, Mega, etc but just minutes away instead of having to travel to Guadalajara.
 11. The Cultural center has an excellent variety of art and photography exhibits, art classes, Children's library,
and a nice quiet garden area for eating your lunch bought from one of the town vendors.
12. Nearby is the popular row of Lakeside restaurants in San Juan Cosala all with breathtaking views of the
Lake and its variety of bird life. And nearby is the hot water springs and pools where you can relax and let
your body be refreshed by the natural hot water springs supplying the pools there.
13. Surrounding the Jocotepec area are the raspberry, strawberry and blackberry farms where you can go
and get a big bucket of second rated berries for the price of a song. Most can hardly tell the difference
between the first rated ones being sent to the US and those rated seconds.
14. Talk with the foreigners who chose the West end at Racquet Club, Las Fuentes community or Roca Azul.
15. Shop at the variety of places on Hildalgo, Miguel Arana and Morelo
16 To experience the Mexican culture, language and people rather than having the American neighborhood.
17. Cost of rental or purchased properties is less

I think what vetteforron is talking about is that Joco replaced all the cobble stone streets with pavers, real improvement.I lived in Roca Azul for a year when first moving to Mexico in 2008.Growing up in the boonies of Washington State wanted to get back to the rural life to an  area of south Lake Chapala.Moved to Puragua for a little over 5years,decided to move to the coast to be living  close to the beach in Bucerias,Nayarit.Made it 3 years and decided we couldn't handle the heat and humidity anymore,so have moved back to southside of the lake again a little east of Tuxcueca. We have a 5bedroom 3and a half bath house on the lake with 3 hectacres. Now have 4 dogs 4 cats 11 hens and 2 ducks. My wife will go to the northside once a month to get a few things we can't get around here.Living the good life now.New hiway also helps. When they get the new bypass around San Luis finished this side will take off,not really looking forward to that actually, unless we owned where we live

Many valid points there.

I agree the west side has much to offer and we bought land near San Luis last year.  Have a beautiful view of the lake at a fraction of the cost near Ajijic.  Plan to build casa in 3 years.  Expect costs to really escalate in the coming years.  Probably will sell our place in Riberas or sell at this time.
