bobnliz
Try San Carlos in Sonora... outside Guaymas. We have great scenery, beautiful beaches, ample lodging and loads of restaurants, from Taco stands to Gourmet fare. There's plenty to do, from beachcombing and kayaking to Mt Biking and Horseback riding. Our signature geographic feature is Tetakawi ... otherwise knows as Goat Titty Mountain... hiking groups, birding, sport fishing and more. Come check us out. Mainecoons
Among the closer beach places our first choice is La Manzanilla for the great beach, nice quiet town with very reasonably priced restaurants. Also great snorkeling at Tenacatita.

John Shrall
Rincón de Guayabitos/La Peñita Full disclosure: We've owned a house there on the beach for 5 years and visit once every month or 2. Home maintenance rises to a whole new level at the ocean. Jaltemba Bay has been called the biggest lake in the Pacific. It's very calm, flat and shallow for a long way out. The town is still small for the time being but with new developments under construction to the north and south, this area will eventually turn into the Riveria Maya (Cancun to points south). It's now only a 4 hour drive with the new cuotas. If the last leg is ever completed the commute will drop by at least 30 minutes. RdG restaurants can't compare to Bucerias if that is important to you but there are many that are enjoyable. There are a lot of beach options along the Pacific from Chacala to PV and south to Manzanillo. There aren't many bad choices.

El congrejo
For relaxing I like to avoid the tourist traps and like to visit Cuyutlan. To fit in a little golf I’d pick Grand Bay hotel in Barra de Navidad.
