Member Discounts? Preferred Seating? Legal Immunity (honest officer, I didn't know!)? Or are you just another overworked, tired, slob on the bus, trying to make it back home? I get a kick out of people saying we are guests in the country. I don't ask my guests to pay to enter my home or submit documents to prove their worthiness or pay my taxes. I suppose my definition of guest is different. I think the same of hotel "guests". Some stores are using this word now as well...seems odd to me.

It lost some of its monopoly on the production, distribution and sale of petroleum products. The idea was opening it up to competition might force it to clean up its act. Given that much of this massive theft of product that has exploded in the last several years involves Pemex employees it doesn't appear that has worked. What I can't get my head around is why anyone would think a country with the level of governmental corruption this one has could somehow as if by magic run a government owned oil company. That is truly magical thinking IMO. Pemex is simply a reflection and repetition of that corruption. CFE is just another example of the same thing. A while back it was reported that a million households in Mexico city are stealing electricity. Another recent report noted CFE losing millions of dollars in stolen electricity in Puebla. Also reported is this theft has skyrocketed since 2016 and as usual involves employees as well. Amazing the employees of both Pemex and CFE, among the very best paid in Mexico, are such thieves. allon As a result, Mexicans pay through the nose for all forms of energy and will continue to do so IMO. The socialistic scam here is the myth the people are somehow served by "owning" their energy. The real owners of course are the corrupt politicians, executives and union workers who feed off of these entities. All the Mexican people own are high prices and lousy service. The competitive gasoline & diesel stations are not yet importing their own product. I would think this situation would encourage them to move up their import schedule. Wholesale cost of gasoline in Texas without any taxes should be around $1.00 per gallon. Surely they could convoy that in and still make a profit. I suppose that the government not expropriated petroleum companies in 1938 this situation would not have happened in private hands. A lack of competition allowed the sloppy practices and corrupt employees at Pemex and they just raised the prices to cover it.

The rapacious greed to steal what is not theirs to take, to maintain these levels of life destroying indulgencies, rises to the top levels of government, which are willing to go to war, and military invasion, just to secure its lifeblood, like some sick old flock of vampires, mercessly feeding off another's blood. I am sure you know that Capitalism has raised more people out of poverty than all other economic systems put together.

Jreboll
You’re right about that. It just needs a lot of tweaking and not like what we have going on right now.

That's true. And so do I and I'm a visitor. My point is why would someone who has been given all those rights, rights that newly arrived Mexicans don't enjoy in your country, forget the generosity awarded him and insult the people by retaining his gringoness all the way to the grave just because he pays taxes? I try not to judge that type of thing. My comment was strictly about the use of the word guest. Insofar as the rest of it with respect to rights, rights are not derived from government, although governments have done a great job of convincing and training the population to believe this falsehood. Government are given the right to govern by the people. About generosity, I am not sure whose generosity you refer to. My view is that since rights don't come from government, government is not "generous" as they nothing to give that we don't give them. God gave us the earth and the rights are derived thereof, and the use of it, but people forget that basic fact. I don't want to get into a discussion about how the earth's resources are being used, that's a whole other can of worms and can be its own topic. It's just great the great propaganda and that applies to governments worldwide. I am not really sure what you mean by "gringoness". If someone is an American or _______fill in the blank, they are whomever they are. I don't anything wrong with whatever nationality a person is. 2 1
MarkWebles
"God gave us the earth and the rights are derived thereof, and the use of it, but people forget that basic fact." Fact? What do you know about facts? You god-bortherers just kill me (figuratively, though there was a time...). You'd think that in the 21st century, a statement like that would have you relegated to the short bus.
