GASOLINE SHORTAGE IN LAKESIDE?

Remember the long gas lines in the U.S. in the late seventies!!!!

I do.  That was caused by government too.  Living in D.C at the time I remember it very well.  Fortunately, we lived in a place that was almost as walkable as where we live now and we just parked the car and waited it out.

Still, we do agree on AMLO having the gumption to go after this problem as bmh also noted.  He's also trying to put a stop to the illegal immigration from Central America and make it so Mexican people don't feel they have to jump the U.S. border to survive.  I thought it was great when he won and aside from that rather silly Mayan train idea, he's taking the bull by the horns on long standing problems.

But the core problems with Pemex, and for that matter CFE, will never be solvable so long as they are run by government.  As long as there is no imperative to make a profit and no consequences for incompetence and theft, the basic problems will remain and the Mexican people will pay far more for energy than they should have to.

BTW did anyone catch that story about 17 billion pesos gone missing from that airport he cancelled?  Now we begin to understand the ridiculous cost of that thing.  Just another feedbag for the many thieves, it seems.

Maybe it is stated somewhere above when we had that serious shortage in the US, I just know that I was living in a house that I purchased in 1973 and it was sometime thereafter. I purchased a 42 gallon empty oil barrel and buried it in the back yard and began filling it with gas. I never filled it too much because there always seemed to be regular available at the service station some 4 blocks from my house.

Today on the way south from the Costco just south of GDL on the way toward Joco, I witnessed two traffic jams. The first  was because of construction and the second which was even larger turned out to be cars in one of the three lanes weighting in line to buy gas from the only station around with any gas. All of the traffic heading south in the remaining two lanes were moving very slowly. What a mess. Thank God I still have 3/4 of a tank full of gas.

In 1973, I had just purchased a 45 acre property with a home near Saratoga Springs, NY. It included a tractor and other mobile equipment, as well as a 125 gallon gasoline tank. The tank was filled by a delivery truck and the cost was without the road tax, which made the gasoline much cheaper than at a gasoline station.  So, whenever there was a shortage at the nearest station, it was possible that I could fill my car at home.  I think I might have done it just once, which was illegal, of course. I cannot remember, for sure, in the haze of time.🚜

I fully agree, the new president is doing exactly hat he promised, sounds good to me-

It is amazing to me that two of the 3 major countries in North America have new Presidents that are doing their best to keep the promises they made to those who elected them. But, corruption and the fear of losing power by those who 'were in control, makes the tasks extremely difficult for both. Hopefully, those who put them in power will continue to stand with them and ride out the storms of protest and civil unrest.

We are lucky here at lakeside, regarding gas availability. So far, nothing but a tiny inconvenience. Check out the many stories in today.s Mexico News to see how horrendous it is in a number of states here, photos of unbelievable lineups, tales of panic buying, and how it is affecting trucking and shipping... including avocados for the Super Bowl. This is affecting the country in many more ways than having to line up. https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/

A typical Socialist solution...Less than a month into his 6 year reign, AMLO has taken over the entire situation and impose the "Big Fix"...close down the pipelines and transport the fuel by tanker trucks. How about closing small sections of the pipeline and installing security cameras and passing a 10 year minimum jail sentence for "tappers"? The last administration here tried to open up the industry but it is still controlled by the government (Pemex). Stalin and Mao imposed "relocation" programs that ended in untold million deaths just because they could. Not saying we are going there but Socialism has never worked anywhere. Does the The National Socialist German Workers Party ring a bell?...the Nazi party...they were elected as was Chavez in Venezuela. The scary thing is that the Democrat party in the U.S. is now being taken over by radical left self avowed Socialists. Read your history...the ancient Greeks and Romans were the first DEMOCRATIC societies and they failed because of elected politicians continued being reelected  by catering to the masses seeking more "free stuff". This justified continuing their imposition of their will upon the people until they "ran out of other peoples money" as a wise person once said. Someone on this thread stated that we, as expats, temporary residents or residente permanentes (such as me) should not be commenting on the political situation in the country where we live if we could not vote. Hogwash! Free speech is still alive here, thank God!

Morena is introducing laws so that the franchises buying stolen gas  will lose their permits for 15 years..I bet that cutting out the demand will work a whole lot better than putting thousands of people in jail.. Then what they will have to build jails?  Not a great idea, I think punishing people who are buying will work a whole lot better IF they actually go through with it.

If you're on medicare and collecting social security maybe you should shutup about the evils of socialism.

And they are both going broke. The U.S government is necessary but only for what is outlined in the Constitution. Have you checked the national debt lately? The U.S.A. is the United States of America. The national government is only responsible for the safety and protection of the people (such as borders) and rights (such as the First Amendment) as outlined therein. Education, welfare, and all else are governed (or should be) by the States. History says that when GOVERNMENT (politicians) take over, the system in not long for collapse.

Why do you continue to intentionally confuse the word Socialism with the word Communism? You do yourself no favours. We're all smarter than that.

Unfortunately, this hasn't worked with drugs, either.

Because essentially they are both the same, one leads to the other. History proves it. Got it?

Plus it is a tiny tiny country.
Always high unemployment in socialists in countries. My source is CIA fact book.   Due to their immigration policies women can't walk the streets. All countries fall. The U. S. 240 + years and still going strong.
