New 2018 Jalisco Driving Guide

Recommended Posts

Due to overwhelming demand and the need to educate people on traffic laws, their rights and responsibilities as well as fines and amounts, I have updated my Jalisco Traffic Guide so it is current as of October 19, 2018. Please feel free to read it and download it and let me know if there is anything that should be added / deleted / corrected, etc.

Spencer, have you considered hosting an educational seminar? Your document is top notch and looks like it could be used in a seminar. I would be willing to pay to attend an educational seminar on Jalisco traffic & criminal laws and procedures for English speaking civilians. Something that would supplement your document and would be geared to the layperson. I am not sure if there has ever been such an event or if one currently exists. Maybe there would be others that would be interested in attending?  Just an idea.

This is where at a stoplight there is a left hand turn lane and cars lined up to turn left and then someone doesn´t want to wait so they cut in the line and place themselves in front of the first car in the left turn lane in the intersection.  Very common in Guadalajara, rare lakeside.

Avoid out of state plates as Jalisco is strict and that protects you from frauds

Who issued the ticket?  Was your handicapped card issued by DIF in Mexico?

Thanks so much for helping us with this! I need to buy a car and the person I'm working with says since I don't have a utility bill or bank account that it's ok to license it in Mexico City because that's not required there. Will that cause problems if I don't have Jalisco plates?

Mexico City license plates for an out of state vehicle without a physical verification of the vehicle would have a high probability of fraud.

You should be able to get Jalisco plates.  A bank account is NOT needed to register a car in Jalisco.  If they require a utility bill in your name at the Recaudadora then get the letter of residency from City Hall.
