Reports say that Team Trump has saved the US about $1.1 trillion in this deal. His critics look like fools now. Now on to Europe and China ! Just keeping his promises. Look for AMLO to do the same with his promises.

U.S. dairy subsidies equal 73 percent of producer returns, says new report

  https://www.google.com.mx/amp/s/amp.realagriculture.com/2018/02/u-s-dairy-subsidies-equal-73-percent-of-producer-returns-says-new-report/

Socialistic US farm subsidies paid for by tax payer money to dairy producers along with free tax money subsidies to soya bean and corn producers which helped ruin the corn producers in Mexico.

Trump complained last week on TV that Mexico was screwing over US imports with a 16 percent value added tax on everything and of course omitted the fact that US states have sbout an 8 percent value added tax on  all Mexican imports except Texas and Nevada

Then Obrador states he wants to cut Mexico's 16 percent IVA - value added tax in half to 8 percent. Is Obrador just babbling on as usual or is he Trump' s little plaything?

" The report follows similar analysis conducted by Grey, Clark, Shih and Associates in 1990, 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2010. In 2010, the firm found U.S. government support equaled 62 percent of American dairy farmer returns, totalling nearly $20 billion."

Canada put on a 300 percent tariff on dairy products to save their own dairy industry from cheap US imports ruining it and Trump was trying hard to get it way down. That is the main reason why Canada walked before.

Many differing views, here's one from MX in English:

https://mexiconewsdaily.com/opinion/the-new-trade-deal-is-a-goal-for-mexico/

We know many US firms who are requesting all their customers to lobby Congress hard against Trump's various tariffs.     Starting Jan 1st, US homeowners and businesses will pay 25% more due to the China tariffs, not to mention the high steel and aluminum ones.

Some manufacturing may go to the US, however, due to smaller or non existent tariffs on things like parts from China, much more is likely to Canada and Mexico, where assembly and packaging can be done to create a NAFTA / USMCA qualifying product that can then go to the US duty free.....

But "The Base" is happy, they believe what they are told.    And a temporary diversion from the Supreme Court circus for the GOP.

By the way....does this make it more necessary, or less necessary, to "BUILD THAT WALL"?    😉    Hmmmmm.

"The Base" has probably forgotten about that one, eh?

According to most current news sources, the new deal is almost exactly what the TPP would have done for US, Mexico, and Canada but without the other countries involved (which would have helped curtail China's influence in the region.)  But the prez also said the TPP was the worst deal ever...Curious to see if Mexico pays 40% of its auto workers 16/hour.  That would put them in the top 1% of wage earners.  Generally tariffs increase costs to consumers and make corporations richer.  Countries don't pay tariffs...people do.  Alan

More socialistic free money from U S tax payers money to farmers.

" Despite the extraordinary costs of the tariff bailout program, many farmers complain that it won’t begin to cover their trade war losses, and will not protect them from potentially losing business permanently from their Chinese customers.

“It’s pretty obvious that the rural agriculture communities helped elect this administration ... [but] if these issues haven’t been resolved, there could be a change in the way farmers vote,” Kevin Skunes, a corn and soybean grower in North Dakota, told the Associated Press.

The money is provided through the Commodity Credit Corporation that was launched to help farmers during the Great Depression and to weather natural disasters. It allows the USDA to borrow up to $30 billion from the U.S. Treasury.

Republican senator Grassley has received nearly $390,000 in farm subsidies in 21 years through 2016, according to records tracked by EWG. Republican senator Tester has collected$217,000 in farm subsidies during that time, according to the organization."

" THE FACTS: That's a fair reading of one of the agreement's most significant changes — though dairy only accounts for about 0.1 percent of U.S.-Canada trade. Canada's tariffs on dairy imports can approach 300 percent. U.S. dairy farmers have also complained about Canadian policies that priced the U.S. out of the market for some dairy powders and allowed Canada to flood world markets with its own versions.

The new agreement would end the discriminatory pricing and restrict Canadian exports of dairy powders. Still, it's in some respects an incremental advance from the Pacific deal that Trump walked away from. It would expand U.S. access to up to 3.75 percent of the Canadian dairy market, versus 3.25 percent in the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Above that level, U.S. dairy farmers will still face Canada's punishing tariffs."

Appears Canada was victorious and kept their 300 percent tariffs on US on dairy products.
