catbird
I love to make pot roast but I don't know how to order the meat. Can anyone advise me about where to buy the meat and more importantly what the cut is called? Gracias
Bisbee Gal
Go here for info on names of cuts. http://rollybrook.com/lexicon-groups.htm#mea I rarely buy red meat, but if you could identify the meat you want by looking at the cuts of meat displayed in meat areas of Soriana or Walmart, you could read the label on it and if you don't want to purchase at chain store, take the name of the cut to a butcher shop. El Saltos
Go to Tony's and say "pot roast."
ned small
What you want is a round roast and I have never seen one other than at the small butchers around here. You can try google translate or what I do is print a picture of the cut I want and show it to them.
ComputerGuy
Check out this thread on this same topic. All answers are in the thread, including pictures. Diezmillo is the cut.
congodog
I buy pot roast at Tony's all the time. As mentioned by another poster, you just ask for "pot roast". They'll know what you need.
Wookie
I go to Tony's and ask for Chuck Roast. He asks how many pounds ... We usually get 3 to 3 1/2 pounds. We really like the chuck roast because it has some fat on it that helps make it juicy and tender. He doesn't usually keep it out front.
rvanparys
Another vote for Tony's. Good meat and fine service...
kbleitch
The name for this cut in español is “diezmillo.” You will I see it on one of the vinyl signs hanging on the wall at Tony’s.
tomgates
Tony's know what chuck is and they speak English.
gringal
A question: I like to make meat loaf for sandwiches, but the ground beef in the display case is usually not what I'm looking for. How should I phrase it if I'm looking for no more than 15% fat, high quality ground beef at Tony's?
Elegante
Tony will grind anything you buy there so you can create your own blend.
Al Berca
Almost everyone speaks at least some English at Tony's. No need to "phrase" anything. Just tell them what you want. If they don't understand you, they will ask help from someone who will.

I offered the Spanish in case the OP finds it more convenient to go somewhere other than Tony’s.

Tell him the percentage of fat that you want in your beef and he will custom grind it for you.
MtnMama
You must need to be a regular Tony's customer. I have only been there a dozen times over the years, but have never gotten any meat to write home about. Costco has a beautiful cut of roast beef in their meat case sometimes. I admit I didn't pay attention to the name but it's worth getting when they have it.
ibbocat
Must disagree, not a frequent visitor only when I want something special and it is always good and well presented.
