Arroyos
On checking my computer noticed my Windows Defender was turned off, and for the life of me, Windows would not let me turn it back on. The circle just kept going round and round until it timed out. Just wondering if this was a play by Windows to get me to download Windows 10. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks to all. cedros
I just checked mine. I have Windows 7 ultimate and my Windows Defender is turned off. I can't turn it on. When I tried it says "blocked by group policy.....error code 0x800704ec". Maybe because I use Avast for antivirus.
El Menudo
does MSFT still support 7?
johanson
I only know that it is still working on my Windows 10 software on my small Windows Book laptop I bought in Jan 2016. I just checked.
Blame the Dog
Looks like a registry fix is one solution: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/error-code-0x800704ec-windows-defender-wont-turn/04bb6f33-65b6-47f7-bee7-f3f1680f7e95 Microsoft does still support Windows 7 for security updates until January 14th, 2020. Keep in mind that Windows Defender is an antivirus/antispyware, so it would not run if you had another antivirus program like Avast installed and enabled. One or the other.
