How do you handle this

CG, some people are here to have polite discussions and offer assistance. Others have different motives. The more attention they get the more likely they are to continue on and on and on. We know this from experience, painful experience.

The termination of employees in Mexico has gone simply and painlessly for many. For some it has turned into a nightmare. In between are people who have had varying degrees of issues. It is helpful for the OP to consider how she wishes to proceed. Actually, if I recall correctly somewhere in this thread the OP  said she preferred to keep the employee with the annoying behavior corrected. So perhaps this discussion is completely off track.

Xena, agreed.

Bennie, you can't wiggle out of this. You said " amazing how many experts here want to turn this into a UN summit", and "no where in the world have cleaning ladies gotton (sic) so much attention", basically turning this conversation into a snide commentary from the peanut gallery. Unwarranted, and --I venture-- unwanted.

Some of the smarter Mexican employees will refuse to talk to you and if they are convinced you have no attorney or are just a dumb gringo, they just go away and wait. Like the maid who worked for a couple in our building. The gringa accused the maid (7 years of service) of stealing a TV remote as she could not find it. so she fired the maid and then bragged that the maid would get no severance since she was fired for cause. A couple of us owners who knew better suggested she check with an attorney which we knew she would refuse to do. We knew, cause we were told, that the maid was plotting her strategy. She waited months and finally went to the Labor Board and related her tale of woe involving how the gringa had promised her the severance but it had never been paid. Story ended a couple of months ago with the maid being awarded almost $8000 pesos. Smart maid and dumb gringa. If she had just paid the severance to the Labor Board it would have been a much lower figure and the gringa would have had the last laugh.
