Sea
FBAR is still due end of June this year. Next year it changes to April 15th, with an extension possible. http://www.collinsbarrow.com/en/cbn/publications/new-fbar-deadline-for-the-2016-tax-year This is my PSA for the day. Answers to questions need to come from someone more knowledgeable.
lcscats
FBAR is a form that the US Treasury department wants you to fill out electronically if you have over 10,000 USD in bank/institution in foreign country. Its very easy to fill out and yes if you do your taxes and are honest they already know about it. Note its a Treasury department form and not an IRS form so the Taxpayer bill of rights does not apply. It seems the government loves to torture expats. Own a business over a certain amount here and the commerce department has a form to fill out also. Pretty soon we will need a lawyer/Notary to be an expat. You now have to export your car to Mexico if you wish to nationalize it. Takes a day or so. Anybody exported car lately to Mexico and had to deal with this? BCdoug
the biggest take away is the change of due date for 2016 FBAR - I suspect a lot of people will be caught late next year. I have updated my Yahoo calendar to remind me before April 15, 2017
