Xill Fessenden's life and work have been highlighted by the desire to discover new possibilities and capture for posterity that one fleeting moment of truth. A photographer who works in both film and digital media, Fessenden moved permanently to Mexico in 1985 after she had been captivated by the mystery and light of the country as it was reflected in the human scene. Here, she chose the life of an artist in addition to teaching photography at the Instituto Cultural Cabanas in Guadalajara; she later co-directed the Centro Ajijic de Bellas Artes, where she curated major art and photographic exhibits. Xill has been a photographer for over 40 years and maintains her own color and black and white darkrooms in her studio, in addition to a computer lab for digital work. She has exhibited shows at major museums and galleries and is in the photographic collection of Banamex. Today she is best know for her photographs of the indigenous P'urepecha communities in the highlands of Michoacan, and she's participated in the spiritual ceremonies of the Huichol Indians and traveled throughout the Zapotec and Mixtec communities of Oaxaca. Her Mexico discoveries continue to transform both her photographic art and her life.
