"When Mexico opened a new San Ysidro pedestrian entry in mid-August, the routine changed drastically. In fact, the only truly whimsical part of entering Tijuana through San Ysidro on foot that remains consistent is the red light/green light procedure when it comes to checking your baggage only now they employ the use of a modern x-ray machine and conveyor belt." Are they checking all foreigner's passports on entry into Mexico as reported?
Intercasa
So then to sneak in you need to cross at Otay Mesa?
Sonia
Recently entered at Laredo and also Colombia and no one checked my husbands PR visa or passport. There were more questions for me and a cursory look in the car at Colombia. saludos Sonia
AlanMexicali
So then to sneak in you need to cross at Otay Mesa? Correct... also Tecate [almost nobody walks over in Tecate] and Mexicali will work at this time when walking. Driving in at all 3 is still easy to do to not get checked by INM only ADUANA´s Red light/Green light system, so far even though San Ysidro and Mexicali have air conditioned booths set up the same as CBP anytime they want to use them and disable the Red light/Green light system. I think the booths need computers first to function for INM to check you in the Nothing to Declare lanes, but not sure anymore. Also there will be a new border crossing with a 10 lane entrance into Mexico and into the USA which is now under construction in downtown Mexicali expandable to 16 lanes. Sumofabit
The benefit to having both a regular passport and a passport card is that to Mexico you are two different people. I use my passport to get a tourist permit and would use my passport card if challenged at the border. Seems that there are only a few placed that even care. Intercasa
Surely you jest. Mexico can and does check names and data. A current scandal affecting Mexicans is many were born in the USA but when their parents brought them for a visit to Mexico they registered them as if they were born in Mexico, then later they registered their US birth certificate. These people now have a freeze placed on them and cannot get Mexican passports and we are doing cancellation lawsuits in the famuily courts so they can once again get Mexican passports after canceling their improper birth records in Mexico. Sumofabit
Surely you jest. Mexico can and does check names and data. At the border? Surely you jest. Most Mexican officials address me as Mr. middle name, never using my correct surname. If they really checked, I might have been caught by now ignoring their rules. giltner68
A couple of weeks ago I crossed at Acuna, just drove across, no questions, no check. Coming back I needed my passport to get back to Del Rio.
