Looking for Non-Microwave Popping Corn

The corn for popping in WalMart is in the section with the rice and beans, maybe three rows up from the frozen foods cooler. Soriana has it, SuperLake has it in bulk where they have the other bulk stuff. It is cheap stuff, but it works well enough. It's between 10 and 13 pesos a kilo.

That is a LOT of oil. I find a tablespoon of coconut oil is plenty for 1/4 cup of popcorn, which gives me a bowl big enough for a popcorn pig like me. And sometimes extra virgin olive oil drizzled, instead of melted butter, is (I had to try it to believe it) pretty good.

However, the best way to make popcorn in my world is to get yourself a Whirley Pop. This is professional-grade stuff (if there is such a thing). Nothing burns, it all pops, and it turns 10-peso popping corn from WalMart into the lightest and fluffiest there can be around here.
