Amalgam (Silver Fillings) Safe Removal

Recommended Posts

I am assuming you want to replace them with non-silver fillings? I recently had 2 of my old silver fillings removed and replaced at Dental Express. It was very economical and they did a good job, will be doing another one on the other side of my mouth at my next appointment.

Has anyone had their amalgam fillings safely removed here? Also root canals? I'm just wondering for those who are health conscious, what you did when the root canal was removed? I read the other day that someone's father was ready to make themselves wood dentures...not a bad idea! :D

I have about 5 of those old type fillings. I asked my dentist about that recently and after he inspected them, he said it was unnecessary to remove them and replace with different material. Sounds like a good way for a dentist to make some money on the procedure.

I have so many of them in my mouth, that I have to stay inside when there is a thunderstorm, for the risk of lightning hitting me. I did some research on that a few years ago. Conclusion : VERY serious precautions have to be taken, when removing them..... some rinsing is not enough. I might as well die with them.

That is the ultimate price I gladly pay for stealing all my grandmother's chocolate, when I was a naughty little snotnose Belgian.

The main concern with mercury is that it is neurotoxic. The following are a partial list of symptoms that have been associated with mercury toxicity. Memory loss, fatigue, tremors and inability to concentrate. If you any of these better to check with a good dentist.

No one will disagree that mercury is a bad thing to have in your system. However, mine have been in there for over half a century, so I'm going to let sleeping fillings lay.

I found out that what I'm looking for is called a Huggn's Applied Healing dentists. I did find one in Puerto Vallarta and another in Tiajuana. I'll take PV over Tiajuana but wondered if we had anyone lakeside or Guadalajara, I'm still looking. So I'm doing a modified Gerson Therapy to reverse whatever chronic thing that has decided to ail me ;0) aside from my delicious pizza. lol So far so good, I'm pain free but I've often thought the amalgam were part of the problem. 10 years ago a local dentist here advised me of the need to have mine removed and I'm taking her advice seriously now. I don't think my immune system is strong enough to just have them yanked out without proper protection. I agree with Rony, it's better stay inside during a lightening storm and keep them than have them removed improperly. Rony, are you still here? And if you are, do you have any dark chocolate left?

I had ALL mine (and there were MANY) removed due to immune-system skin disorder that made my life intolerable. Dermatologist said to get all fillings out of my mouth and replace with procelain and zircomium -- nothing else.

Dr. Milian Paz did the work -- very carefully -- and that was over 4 years ago. No bad effects. INSTANT relief after suffering intolerable pain.

His office is just behind what used to be Hole -in-One restaurnat.

Double yes..... I overcame my yearly crisis, bit the bullet (using my old amalgam teeth) and stayed (moving to a new place near the plaza). I will pm you.

Last week, Guadalajara university (UDG) came out with a frightening study about pesticides here at Lakeside (but I don't want to sidetrack from the op's subject)...... therefore, I stopped worrying, since I feel that this is a war (all the poison used EVERYWHERE) that I can not win, living day to day, and enjoying.

While looking at the danger coming from one side, you are likely to get hit from an unexpexted corner. Such is la vida.

I avoid dentists like the plague and even contemplate euthanasia when I need one (my excuse is that I belong to the weak gender), especially after my last root canal (oh, how I hate that word), when the dentist charged me for a post, that he was going to put in there. Guess what, he didn't put the post (without telling me) and I lost my tooth (not the easy way..... had to be pulled in small pieces).

One day, I might have no teeth left and that is bad for my business, as ,.....who wants to buy chocolate from a teethless chocolatier and his picture on the wrapping.

I would guess that there are more very old Fa**s living here with amalgam fillings than with other fillings, you are more likely to get knock down crossing the street than getting amalgam problems..we are living longer eating all that junk food, which is the issue...look back and study how old were your parents and their parent were when they died...we are just wearing out for god sake

  • 4 months later...

I want to follow up on Dental Express procedures. I was scheduled to have my amalgams removed from another specialist in the area when I decided to go into Dental Express and ask some questions, walked out with my appointments scheduled and cancelled my previous appointment. Come to find out, Dental Express will use a dental guard which catches anything from getting into my mouth and only pokes the teeth through it that are being worked on. They will give me goggle protection for my eyes and offer oxygen and nitrous oxide covering my entire nasal area so I may not breathe any mercury vapors causing more poisoning. The price of amalgam removal and porcelain fillings were comparable, a little less expensive at Dental Express than with the other specialist who also offers a mouth guard, goggles and a nasal filter. Whether their nasal filter has activated carbon I do not know. What won me over was the convenience of oxygen and putting me out, which the specialist doesn't offer. Although the other specialist doesn't have a problem if I wanted to rent my own oxygen tank.

Sounds strangely like the symptoms of old age. Who do I check with for that?

There is lots of scare mongering about the amalgum fillings. They do cause problems in a very few peiple. The first move should be getting tested for heavy metal posioniing. You are of course interested in the mercury but others are possible from other sources. This is most commonly tested with examination of hair samples. If you have such posioning, have them removed and begin chleation with EDTA introvenous a couple or three times a week for several months. Then get the hair test after 6 or 7 months to se if you need to continue Chelation.

Is there a local place that offers metal toxin testing, chelation with EDTA introvenous? Activated carbon and bentonite clay are also useful for metal detox. Other reasons to have amalgam removal are when the fillings are old and there is corrosion around them.

Yes fillings do crack around the margins. If that is the problem there are composites now that can be used on molar occlusal surfaces that will hold up more years than most of will need them. As far as I know only dentist will remove old amalgums and then a physician will do the chleation. There are online labs that will tell you how to send hair samples and send you back results. Just google Lab testing heavy metals. Dr Heredia in Chapala used to do chleation.

OP, you are doing the right thing by checking carefully what the safety procedures are. In addition to the rubber dam and mask, they should also suction constantly during the procedure. I happen to know 2 people who ended up with severe mercury poisoning from unsafe removal of mercury fillings.

Dr Heredia in Chapala, is he still around? Do you know where he is located? I've read that one needs to wait a few months before starting chelation. Anyone with experience with dental chelation?

Mudgirl, thank you, exactly, I am trying to avoid more poisoning. Not breathing in the vapors or swallowing particles will certainly help.
