Anyone had any experience with or heard anything about the following ortho surgeon. I have been recommended to him for a knee replacement. Thanks.

Dr. José Miguel Huerta Vázquez

You may want to ask him what make of prosthesis he will be using and then check it out on the Internet. Some of the well-known makers are being sued because of problems with more recent products.

Also, ask him whether he will be using regional (epidural)anaesthetic or a general. The standard NOB is to use an epidural (regional), which is what I had for both knee replacement surgeries, the first in Ontario and the second in Guadalajara.

I have a great Ortho who is in my network of Specialists.

I make sure that the needed care (according to my U.S. training) is followed through until the very end and I coordinate the care with the physical therapists and any other specialits who may be needed before, during and after such a surgery.

Email me for more info.

Dr. Gonzalez is excellent ortho surgeon. He comes to Maskaras clinic on Fridays to see patients.

I said that in another post about Hip Surgery. He just did a great job on a friends Carpel Tunnel. He also did 2 knees and a hip for another friend. We swear by him and wouldn't consider going to anyone else. A bright, personable young guy with excellent English.

His main office in Guad is on Tarascos across from Del Carmen Hospital.

The Epidural is standard in Mexico and as you stated in Canada- Not in the US - at least not in Calif- where General Anesthesia is the norm

Friends mother in Guad had double knee replacement 3 yrs ago - originally scheduled for an Epidural, but her Fam. physician and Anesthes- MD decided at the last minute she was not a good candidate for Epi and gave her General- depends on the patient.

AS noted above, it is important to have the a patient's FAMILY PHYSICIAN involved in the process. I can't stress enough that the success of almost all surgeries depends heavily on the follow up care which in my experience involves a patient's Family Doctor. He often sees signs in follow up visits of complications (during a good physical exam) that the patient may ignore or they patient may not present any symptoms at all.
