ajijicbound
Maybe harvest time for sugar cane? They burn the fields before harvesting.
Mrguero
Yesterday there was a big fire in the hills behind the Tecnológico Superior on the Libramiento. Today, driving down the hill heading toward Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, I saw 3 different fires burning on 3 different hills. I noticed the wind was blowing towards the south, so that's why you're getting all that smoke. These fires aren't sugar cane field fires, but rather fires at the top of the hills which are consuming the trees and brush up there.
El Saltos
Those are on the northe shore. The OP is asking about the south shore. From over here on the north side I see a lot of fires on the south shore. It's typical for this time of year.

CSOKI
Those of you living on the south shore might be in for more smoke tonight. It seems the mountains south side is the source of the smoke. The wind is from the south bringing in the smoke. I can see the smoke from my living room. Take care.
