secheltsally
Need Advice! Cat was SPRAYED at Customs and nearly died so we need to cover all bases to get Kitty back to Canada end of March. His papers were all in order and he had rabies, parasite treatment and all shots, documents signed by vet in Canada BUT not stamped. The Mexicans require stamps. So...need name of GOOD VET, with knowledge of system at airport, to get required (and stamped) papers so we are not facing airport nightmare or risk for Kitty again. Very worried about having all documents and requirements to get out of Mexico and through Phoenix and safely home to B.C. Canada. Would appreciate any and all advise here. After what poor Kitty has gone through we need to make sure he arrives back in Canada safe and sound. "Christine' can you contact me again please. I am now in Ajijic but can't locate your numbers or PM you sent me in January. Thanks for any help here...

In our experience, all the Canadian authorities were interested in was the actual paperwork (International Health Certificate)--and that was for a dog flying in from the Middle East. They never even looked at the animal. We drove down to Lakeside and back with our two dogs and no one--- U.S., Mexican or Canadian-- even asked to see the paperwork. (The US guy coming into Texas was fascinated by our Whippet and wanted to know where he could get one, but didn't ask for the paperwork.) We got our certificates for the return from the Ladrons' clinic on the Carratera (sp?) in Riberas next to the shelter. They speak excellent English and know their business. They have a reputation for being expensive down there, but they were SO much cheaper for everything than NOB, we never batted an eye. Good luck, Bob
bournemouth
Lladrons did the health certificate for a rescued kitten who went to the US on Jan 1, on American Airlines. No one, either here in Mexico or in the US wanted to see the paperwork - but better safe than sorry, so get the certificate.
FESchultz
Secheltsally, I believe the spray treatment was only for IN-BOUND animals at the SAGARPA checkpoint at the airport, and only for animals whose in-bound paperwork didn't certify them as free of internal/external parasites (worms/fleas). Too bad you didn't get that stamp (I wonder what stamp??). (BTW, as noted here before, the checking of animals arriving by air is very tight, while the checking of animals at border crossings is nearly nil. Totally different attitudes, it seems.) I've heard it is much more simple for pets LEAVING Mexico, but don't have first-hand experience. Oh, and we would second the recommendation for Ladron Clinic for the certification. Joyfull
We have flown with our dog in the cabin using American Airlines numerous times, although to the U.S. it was easy. They only wanted to see a rabies certificate and health certificate. Fly with your kitty in the cabin. Have also come in by plane numerous times with my dogs. Mexican customs wanted the health certificate with the type of flea/tick control on it as well as stating the animal had no internal or external parasites, also rabies certificate. There is an older gray haired supervisor at GDL who is quite nice. I think you got the wrong guy at the airport....I am putting that nicely. secheltsally
We will make sure all bases are covered for Kitty. He will be in the cabin but for sure will be stressed out after the horrible experience when bringing him here. Once again thanks to everybody for advice.... Studio del Sol
I took my cat to Memo on Constitution in Ajiic after being here 6 months with her--she needed a couple of shots. He did all the papers but wouldn't do them sooner than three days before my flight. He said Mexico wasn't interested, though the US would be. I flew into Sacramento, CA, and sure enough, the animal control was interested. She was very nice, loved animals and wanted to actually see the cat. The cat was not interested in being taken out of her cage, yet once again, but aside from that, there were no problems.
secheltsally
Thank you as we did stop today to chat with Dr. Memo and that was his advise as well. Few days before, or even the day before to have cat checked and make sure he has the proper documents stating Kitty is parasite free, external and internal and what products were used. Feeling better now about getting Kitty back to Canada safe and sound.
Joyfull
I understand how stressed you must be about flying with kitty again. It is so much easier getting animals into the U.S. or Canada than Mexico. Plz don't worry.
