For health issues and medicare,i need to return to the states and prefer to go by road, not to go by air. My current car is jalisco plated and

i would like to trade it for a u.s. plated vehecile that would make the trip to Texas. Or i can easily sell my car and buy a u.s. plated one. I will

use the services of a lawyer i know, to get proper permits, insurance etc. Please p m me if you have anything or know someone who does.

Any US plated car you buy that's currently in Mexico with a permit would have to be driven back to the border and the permit canceled. You then do the deal in the US and the other party can drive your car back to Mexico. That's the legal way. I am of course aware that this is sometimes not done but if you use an attorney, I'm certain this will be the process...unless laws have been changed that I am unaware of.

pappysmarket.... it is perfectly legal to, while IN Mexico, buy a US plated vehicle with a TIP on it and drive it back to the US, cancelling said TIP for the original owner at the Mexican border. The current owner does NOT have to go to the border.  The process does require that an attorney or Notario be involved for the required paperwork (Seguro Retorno) but it is eazy peazy. I've done this MANY times over the last 15 years.

In all respect. You might have a better chance of getting responses if the car you want to trade was described...

Thanks, but i have decided not to sell my car at this time,it is in excellent condition and has new tires, all ready for a trip to the states, so i may decide to drive it up there if no one has a u.s. plated vehecile to trade. But if i change my mind ,i will decribe it and re post it for sale.

.... and if you need to when the time comes there are 'plenty' of folks who will assist you or do all the driving for you... then they fly back. Costs a few pesos yes but it solves a problem.

You stated it is Jalisco plated.... So you will be returning to Mexico with it then?

You can drive it for 1 year in the USA with USA liability insurance.  Your Mexican policy may include the coverage, depending on your company,

Answering for him in case he doesn't see this (valuable informative) reply. NO.  One-way trip.

One way trip with Jalisco plated vehicle into USA won't work.

If the car is Jalisco plated then it can only be used for 1 year in the USA (with US liability insurance) and then must be returned to Mexico.
