  1. Greetings! My name is Susan and I'm happy to offer you housesitting help in the area of Lakeside / Chapala / Ajijic, starting in September or October. I am originally from Canada with a background in counselling, and more recently have been working as a volunteer to distribute children's books. I LOVE a quiet life with opportunities to support, so feel available to help look after your pets, support with housekeeping, or look after your garden, as needed. My dates are flexible, so feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss more. Thanks so much
  2. We visited Q Restaurant on the Ajijic Malacon today. My first word needs to be WOW. We felt so welcome. Even cushions were brought to us to add to the comfort. If you did not know this was Lake Chapala, you might think you were on a beautiful lake anywhere in the world. The menu is varied but since we have lived in Buenos Aires were wanted to try the empanadas and grilled provolone cheese. Again WOW. The prices are right for the exellent service, view and great food. This is one place that no one should miss. It will lbe a treasure for AJIJIC. Ask for Mello for a waiter.
  3. Im looking for someone in or close to Ajijic/Lake Chapala that could make a custom quickdraw holster for a revolver with a 6" barrel.
  4. A new raspado shop has opened up in Ajijic down Colon towards the Malecon. Raspados are shaved ice with different liquid toppings. Lucia has dozens of flavors and makes them herself. She is open every day but Tuesday from 12-8pm. Just the thing for these hot days....
  5. How can I work remotely for an US company if I’m currently living in Guadalajara? I
  6. If you haven't been for a boat ride on Lake Chapala, here is your chance. The Ranch no-kill dog shelter is holding a sunset/full-moon rise cruise on Lake Chapala. It's a really fun event with food and entertainment by Polanco + Steadman.
  7. Alma Gutierrez invites you to view her new collection, this January 31, in Yves restaurant, at 1:30
  8. We thought that we'd give this restaurant a try even though ethnic cuisine is often not very good outside it's country of origin. What a wonderful surprise! Excellent, authentic food which was freshly prepared and pleasantly presented. This is not a pretentious place. The atmosphere is friendly and cozy. Service is prompt and friendly. The food is the focus. As it should be! The menu has plenty of choices to make your selection from. Wine is a limited choice, but mixed drinks are good. Try the mojito - I did and it was amazing!

  10. Hi there, My name is Marc, a 35yo dutch guy. I was hoping anyone could give me some information/feedback on the following subject:-) I plan to start up a (small) business around Chapala/Ajijic region and rent e-bikes. Recently i’ve visited Chapala a couple of times and apart from the fact that i personally love the place, believe that there are possibilities. I suppose here on the forum are quite a lot of members active who might be living in the region for whay much longer, and might have some knowhow or relevant information/tips? Many thanks in advance, Marc
  11. Best tuna we've had in Mexico! And we try it everywhere, at least once. Excellent service, clean outdoor seating (under a great shade tree). Owner visited every table. Menu is mariscos. Tacos and tostadas with upscale twists, some Asian influences (the spicy sesame salsa is incredible). Various ceviches and aguachiles. Nice offerings of various bottled salsas and bowls of pickled onions, pico de gallo and cole slaw. The tostadas are square and hearty....I am guessing they are homemade or from an artisanal source. We had: Tuna sashimi tostada 55p. The tuna was in an Asian sauce with some avocado, onion and nori on top. The sesame/chili salsa served on the side is memorable. Pulpo tostada 52p. Only slight miss of the meal...the pulpo was just a tad chewy (but we have had far worse around town) Tuna arrachera taco 70p. A very healthy portion of ever-so-slightly seared tuna (what we'd call 'torched' in the US). Melt-in-your-mouth tender. Deep fried battered avocado taco 27p Nice clean fry on the battered avocado. Benefits greatly by adding the aforementioned fixins. Limon Carlota 40p Frozen tangy limon dessert layered with thin cookie crusts. House wine is 50p and agua mineral is 25p. Our lunch tab was 319p. I wish I'd had my phone to show the pretty platings and the full menu. Next time! You can go to their FB page for pictures taken by other guests. Lobo de Mar is on Javier Mina in Ajijic, just south of the carretera. All seating is outdoors, maybe 10 tables?? Open Tues thru Sun 12 to 6pm.
  12. The Ajijic Fishing Club went to Christiana Park on April 30th to provide some fishing fun for kids attending "Kids Day" at the park. Hundreds of kids attended and a lot of them came to us and spent some time catching plastic fish in a few inches of water. It doesn't sound very exciting, but even after we ran out of prizes, the kids kept coming, smiling, laughing. We probably won't be remembered by the kids, but the parents thanked us . Possibly they will be Fishing Club members some day.
  13. It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of long-term Ajijic resident Edwin White earlier this morning.
