  1. The Spanish flu was most prevalent during World War One, so travel wasn't instant, but was slow but widely available.
  2. The world has somehow survived at least three outbreaks of the bubonic plague, the Spanish flu and numerous other deadly diseases without the drastic measures governments around the world are now imposing to little or no effect on the spread of COVID. It seems to me that this is a more a political problem than a medical one. For those interested there is an old documentary on YouTube that explores the reason the bubonic plague did not totally wipe out European civilization when it first appeared, well before science and doctors had the least idea of what they were dealing with.
