  1. Thanks for heads-up on SJC topes. The one I crunched was eastbound from The Raquest Club. Surpise.... I'm airborne at 20 mph!
  2. We live in San Juan Cosala and the tope went up this week unannounced as described.... only it was not marked in any way with sign or paint just a black-as-night unfinished large tope lump and I had just been on the road heading toward Axixic the day prior. So when I hit this tope on the carretera it was a real jolt, fortunately a local caught a picture of it on their cell phone! Glad they finally painted the tope yesterday, Friday.
  3. I'd like to stay informed with Mexico News and current events. I keep getting offers from Mexico Daily News 🇲🇽 (The Whole Enchilada) and don't mind paying a little if the juice is worth the squeeze. I haven't had much success with my searches. What are your News recommendations (free and pay)?
  4. That is very good news... thanks. 🇲🇽 🌵
  5. Thanks, at least I know what I've been eating at night... bobitos!
  6. Okay, I hesitated but need to ask as a newbie, what are bobo's?
  7. Hola Sonia and others. Just today, Wednesday, 23/09/20, my wife and went to get our finger prints for our new Residencia Temporal Cards. No issue as expected. However, just as in SMA, the Chapala INM office has done way with infantile photos and blue ink on your fingers! Their INM camera system and finger print pads electronically places the info into their computer. I do admit it was entertaining watching them adjust for my height (6'7" 2.0 meters) on their first day of photos. Because we were their first they apologized it took them a while to get us completed but said it all worked well. We were told to come back in one week and our Residencia Cards will be ready. Thanks for the heads up Sonia.
  8. Not quite on the topic of delivery but on the food. quality and service. We had a craving for Chinese and still learning the area my wife had seen a mention of Min Wah while we were looking for information on the trail hike to the falls..... Google reviews were good so up the hill we went. We ate outside on the small front patio last Friday evening. Restaurant was pretty well attended with good spacing. Staff all wore masks and took our temp and offered covid-sanitation-sauce for our hands... pretty standard but glad to see. Very friendly staff and quick service. We ordered a couple beers, a tasty vegetable dish and some delicious pork fried rice. Best I ever had? Nope, BUT we will definitely be back! Plenty to bring home the next day for a second meal and the staff and service were really good. We liked the vibe and location of the restaurant too, and they just had their 26th Anniversary on El Grito de independencia.
  9. Yep, and as crazy as it sounds, we stayed one night at a hotel and I asked the hotel desk near the DMV Licensing office to put mine and my wife's name with our new PMB address onto the hotel bill (and they knew all about doing it). The next day we each presented our hotel bills at the DMV and viola, we had our DL in 20 minutes...the actual license not a temp.
  10. Great, another option! When will the East & West Ajijic branches be opening? 🇲🇽 💰
  11. You can carry it one step further if you wish and secure your SD Travelers Driver License too to establish a legal US domicile called a PMB (Personal Mail Box). We were considering a full time RV life before deciding on full-time Mexico residence and sold all of our stuff and home to be mobile. The link attached is the company we used to assist us with all of this, Your Best Address, Sioux Falls https://www.yourbestaddress.com (check their Google reviews). A lot of good info on this website. They also offer electronic mail which we like. 🇲🇽
  12. I have NO idea why you went off on me? I was just there, you have not been, what's your issue? I was 100% AGREEING WITH YOU in my post that COVID must have changed the vendor dynamics because right now, not 8 months ago and not 12 months from now, but last Monday, the length of the two Tiangius are about the same. That's it. Nothing else. I only know what I have seen, I have no history pre-COVID. I apologize if you took offense and misinterpreted my comment, I am not correcting you or anyone else just reporting what I saw firsthand. Excellent pictures by the way.
  13. From your descriptions it still makes a jog north, but not as big as you've described from pre-covid.
  14. We just secured our Residencia Temporal visa mid-June 2020 at the Consulado de Kansas City. I brought copies 2 sets each of documents for me and my wife of Income (bank statements had my name and my wife's name, no letter from the bank which I've not heard of) and Savings (401k/Annuity, etc). I also brought a couple copies of our marriage license. I believe more is better so another visit with forms was not required. In the end our Consulado Officer picked exactly what she wanted (did not need the marriage license after seeing it). We were offer Permenente but we chose Temporal becuase I wanted to drive our vehicle into Mexico. In the end each Consulado does what it wants within reason. Also, ask about the needed photo's. We brought photo's BUT their new system (at least in KC) took our photo with their camera when we were approved and placed it in a new electronic visa page onto our passport.
  15. Well, we are new here and that's a good point. So we went to something in Chapala yesterday (a tianguis I will now assume) and it was only the same size or slightly bigger (not even 2x bigger) than the mercado/tianguis on Wednesday's in Ajijic heading south on Calle Revolution from the carretera. Is there another tianguis in Chapala bigger in a different location than the one we attended? Maybe this was a competing event?
  16. FOLLOW-UP REPORT.... We found the Chapala Monday Market (a traditional Mexican market) just a block south of Soriana on the west side of the street. It's bigger than it first looks with small taco food vendors most well received by the crowd; clothes, sundries pollo, pescado and fruits and vegetables. Some good some not. It's about the same size or maybe a little larger as the one in Ajijic on Wednesdays. Hands down we both preferred Ajijic Market. May try Chapala again sometime if we find ourselves over that way, but no special trip for us from SJC. We did swing by Sunrise Restaurant after Chapala Market close to noon so we may ave missed the best of it, but did seem like a lot of prepared foods. May give this one a try again. They were going to close at 12:30 so we were late to the party. Thanks for the help, all.
  17. We're new Lakeside also (early August). I had a quick need for a dentist with a chipped tooth, both cosmetic and function. Went to Family Dental Chapala (Dr. Carlos Cerda Albo; (332) 324-6388). Next day appt, felt sanitary and covid procedures were strong, fixed and matched my tooth, spoke excellent english, grad U of GDL Dental, high google ratings, and charged only $800 Mex to repair (about $38 USD). I will go back. Buena suerte!
  18. I've been reading contradictory info online.... is there an open Monday Market? Is it at Sunrise Restaurant or other? Gracias in advance! 🇲🇽
  19. What is the best way to find a personal physician here in town? Word of mouth?
  20. 🇲🇽 Newbies Lakeside. I have a BP medicine to get refilled. Will any Farmacia refill it, or do I need to see a Doctor here first for the prescription? What are the best Farmicias Lakeside. We live in San Juan Cosala, but it's all local here. Gracias!
  21. I just can't believe you are putting your personal spin on this too! You are also be one of those "I-know-what's-best!" people, right? Look, South Dakota "Residents" whether with physical address (like our Lakeside landlords by shear coincidence) or those with legal domicile (with a SD Travelers Drivers License) is legal in every county in SD. Those of us who went through the entire process are LEGAL South Dakota Residents living "overseas" or traveling the US as RV'ers. Even though my wife and I do not own any physical property in SD, our Drivers License, Registration, pension, Social Security, Medicare and State/Federal taxes are based in South Dakota. Please don't demonstrate your ignorance and BIAS and say this is a scam because of what you saw 13 years ago and apparently didn't even understand then. There are many thousands of us living abroad (and in the US as RV'ers) who appreciate that South Dakota affords us this type of legal domicile WITH voting privileges. Please.... move-on from this post and find another cause to try and disrupt.
  22. Your comment above is exactly what's wrong with extremist political and social views in the US. Left or Right doesn't matter, you are one of them! A "I-know-what's-best-for-you!" type of person. The information I provided in the original post is: For South Dakota Residents ONLY, is Directly from the SD Secretary of State, and is Absolutely accurate, (not as you said, "mostly accurate or of no value"). Why do you care if South Dakota Residents have a simple electronic means to register and vote? Get over yourself, this is just another option.
