  1. Thanks everyone. I really like that store, so that's very good news. Will check out the new premises this week!
  2. Was shocked to discover that the lighting store in Riberas near the Oxxo, my go-to resource, is gone. Is there another store that stocks a similar range of products? Currently in need of a lampshade - one of the ones with the double wire clip that slides right onto the lightbulb. Suggestions? Also in search of old, worn-out lampshades, the kind built over wire frames that delineate separate panels. Needed for a craft project and condition of fabric isn't important. Anyone harbouring any they don't need?
  3. I've had a PO Box in Ajijic for 20 years and still use it for certain things. Sometimes you require original documents (if and when they get through to you) and delivery is still erratic, though the guy on the motorcycle's been great about bringing my packages (if & when they get this far). Occurs to me though that maybe I have to change my mailing address and can't even begin to remember the number of people/places I would have to contact. Arrrrrgh! Or would mail directed to my Box number in the Ajijic office automatically find its way to Chapala now? I had no idea this was happening and I'm really glad someone thought to post here. I've found this board to be an invaluable resource for general info and for sourcing items here, so thank you all!
  4. I get up to 5 of those calls a day sometimes on my cell phone. Spanish recordings or live but in mostly unintelligible (to me) Spanish. I've basically stopped answering the cell; I refuse to break my neck running for the phone only to hear that someone has a "time-limited, today only special offer." Incredibly annoying. I can always check my call list at my own convenience and call back anyone I actually want to speak to.
  5. Watch for the City trucks pruning in older neighbourhoods. I've picked up quite a few over the years from branches they cut and leave lying for a few days. In Riberas, but I'm sure elsewhere as well.
  6. Coincidentally, I also order from El Rey Tacos quite regularly and they have some terrific items, but yesterday's Asian Combo is one meal I won't be repeating. Tastes differ, I guess, but I ate just enough to take the edge off, and decided I didn't like it enough to finish. The egg roll was probably the best thing there. As to the char siu bao, I have 2 recipes from Woks of Life; one does call for cake flour but I actually prefer the steamed buns, which are from regular flour. Now I'm anxious to try - before I devour all the pork I made.
  7. For anyone interested in making their own Asian dishes, I've found a fabulous website and highly recommend it. For years I've tried unsuccessfully to make my own char siu (Chinese BBQ Pork), since the good stuff is scarce to nonexistent here, but none of the recipes I tried even came close. Then I found https://thewoksoflife.com/ and my fist batch came out absolutely restaurant-quality perfect! My next project's going to be turning some of it into Char Siu Bao ( classic BBQ Pork Buns) with another recipe from their site. So many great recipes, tutorials & general info from this family: Dad Bill was a chef in the U.S., Mom Judy provides a Shanghainese perspective and daughters Sarah & Kaitlan contribute their own creations . I think you'll enjoy!
  8. The leaves on my little orange tree (calamondine) are covered in black spots. I've been using a toothbrush and my own nails to scrape them off, but getting each leaf just isn't possible. What can I get or make to treat this? Soapy water doesn't seem to be the answer...
  9. You'd think they'd catch on that people are refusing to buy and they're losing out.. Ground beef is a staple for many so they must have done a high volume business and surely notice that it's declining... It's infuriating that their meats are all becoming suspect; have heard unpleasant things about the chicken as well.
  10. Would like to find 4 or 5 of these but not out much these days. Hoping to shortcut the process. Amazon Mex not helpful.
  11. I desperately want Superlake to recover. I've depended on they for 20+ years to supply certain items that I absolutely have to have; when I first moved here I'm not sure I'd have been able to stay, otherwise. There was no Walmart or Soriana back then either, but even after they opened, Superlake continued to be the "go-to" for elusive, imported items, even as they stocked a good range of local products at competitive prices. Their location is accessible and they're open when you need them. Does anyone know if they're planning to restock to their pre-virus levels? Over all, I was pleasantly surprised at how well they maintained after Pancho left, so I don't see why they can't come back.
  12. Where can I buy Rice Krispies or something very similar that won't bankrupt me to acquire? I paid an outrageous price for the last box but now even that product has disappeared.
  13. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-53254200?fbclid=IwAR2LOD-FufmHwWGayxqf6AafSSq2iHs8ohqHfZvuI1Urdr_m31edKKUvLtM
  14. I trust you know that you can't put canned goods or bottled drinks in with bread or potato chips? Sadly, I've found a lot of the local baggers aren't aware of this.
  15. In the absence of graham wafers, has anyone had any luck making a crumb crust from one of the local cookies? Maybe Marias? Ricanelas? Canelitas? Other? If so, would you mind sharing your technique?
  16. Thanks - sound like what I need. Now a dumb question - where do I find mineral oil and some kind of injector?
  17. Thanks for the info, everyone. I've hired an exterminator who wrapped the chair in plastic and it's in quarantine on my terrace until Monday. Then a few more days for any fumes to dissipate. I hope I made the right choice; HJ did say pieces with these beetles should be tented for "at least 2 weeks", and even then he uses some kind of injected toxin after. I want to do whatever it takes; the cat would never forgive me if I get it wrong, and I really love this chair.
  18. Thanks for the phone # - the girl told me 8 to 8. I don't know why people reply to posts if they can't answer the question or provide anything useful...
  19. Does anyone know what Superlake's hours are since they reopened? Pretty sure they're different than formerly...
  20. Ok,, so posthole beetles, apparently , judging from the pile of super-fine powder in the rather poor photos I took, but I can't actually see any holes! Who can I call, locally, to help me with this? I don't know where to start, especially since I'm high-risk for covid and have hardly left the house for over 2 months! But now I'm terrified of having a real infestation that spreads to my other furniture! Hope someone has suggestions, and quickly. In the meantime, guess I'll move the chair out onto my terrace and cover so the birds don't trash it. I love this piece of furniture and I'm just sick about what's happening.
  21. Ok I need to explore some alternatives. Been isolating over 2 months now and I'd hate to succumb to something stupid like a termite proofing product at this point. That one sounds a bit scary and I have pets to consider. I've also been trying to avoid introducing any kind of toxins into my home and changing many of the products I use. I've put a couple of photos here, but I'm not sure they're useful...?
  22. Imagine my dismay this morning when I spotted a little pile of sawdust under my much-prized, more or less new rattan chair! Is there a product I can use - something to brush on maybe, or how can I protect my furniture? Sofa is also rattan so also a potential target, not to mention various wood items throughout the house. Very disturbing, since it's not rental furniture but all my own!
  23. 376-766-0612 isn't working; that's what I had. Neither is his cell #333-667-1656. Getting "El numero marcado no esta signado" (or something like that) on both.
  24. Is he even open? I don't want to go out and can't even if I wanted to because I have a flat tire, which is why I'm trying to reach him.
