  1. Perhaps malecons are not a priority for the local mexicans? the people of Poncitlan built the skate park there. The people of San Nicholas built the elementary school. If you want to influence the potholes , convince the No Cemento people to come up with a viable alternative. No cemento means no adoquin even though there are two excellent examples of it in Ajijic. Perhaps the PM committee can ban large beer, soda and propane trucks on the cobblestones. You complain ad nauseum on here about it. But, have you ever visited the Director of Simapa who is responsible or the regidor? How many years have you lived here!
  2. My wife walks the malecon in Ajijic and is impressed with the cleaning work of the gardeners. When you say other communities don't contribute to village repairs , how do you know? I know of towns building schools, skate parks and playgrounds... The Delegado Juan Ramon works with the men himself every tuesday to clean an area in the village. The SIMAPA office is responsible for cobblestone repair and has a crew working on it any days when water pipe repair isn't needed. Could more be done, sure.
  3. I grew up in and lived most of my life in a seasonal tourist area. I have seen changes good and bad before. The question is how to influence the reaction to them!
  4. I have been informed by the Delegado and Expat Liaison of FOUR deaths which are each a great loss. Someone may have added a zero for effect like usual. If you are looking for Christmas dinner safely out or delivered to your door , perhaps you should check the restaurant section of this board?
  5. Is it possible that this designation will be able to focus the gov on the issues of the village and the committee will try to address them?

  9. Delegado Juan Ramon Flores got me a copy of the plan: 1.) The floor work will be limited to the northern section -the part up a step in front of the Chapel wall/ Casa de Cultura and the restaurant. The material will match the rest of the plaza with an accent line around the perimeter , a sunburst mural in the center, between the trees and accent sun murals in the southern east and west corners in the accent color 2.) there will be planters with seating around the existing trees. 3.) The bathrooms in front of the casa de cultura will be renovated 4.) All plaza benches will be replaced and more added. 5.) There will be two wave shadows built into the northern perimeter 6.) All plaza lighting will be replaced
  10. The handicap ramps in Ajijic were installed by me, Hector, and a few donors, not the municipality. We also fixed a few sidewalks for mexicans too old and poor to fix them their selves. I have suggested to Delegado Juan Ramon that dayglo paint be sprayed on broken sidewalks as a notice to owners to get them fixed, to be followed by a letter. This would also serve to protect the walking public. I saw this recently in Naples FL. Religious sites qualify as tourist attractions, qualifying for fed. tourist money ex. Chapala Jesus Pescador and Joco south side cross.
  11. Chapala does own a small lot on the SW corner of the water tower circle behind Plaza Bouganvillias. That would be the presumed location of the anticipated chapel. By the way, I would take the word of the "low level politician" Ajijic Delegado Juan Ramon Flores over the blowhard of Chapala any day!
  12. The topic was re the Pueblo Magico of Ajijic . When did the topic transfer to the Chapala Plaza for which I have no comment nor information?
  13. It amazes me that persons who repeatedly express hatred of Ajijic spread false rumors about the community. No trees have been removed, are being removed or will be removed during the construction work. i just spoke to Juan Ramon Flores Delegado as the source for this information!
  14. We have met our goal and the money is in the bank awaiting delivery to the voc college. We are working on the spreadsheet assigning students to donors. Thanks to all who helped. For more information see the videos and fotos on the facebook page Chapala EXPAT Liaison. Again thanks to all The Mayor , Congressman and Director expressed their gratitude to the Expat community for this amazing gesture!
  15. the upgrade to the Ajijic plaza will be the replacement of the surface in front of the chapel through where the restaurant is. The upgrADE OF THE STREETS HAS BEEN REPEATEDLY BLOCKED BY A GROUP THAT WANTS THE VILLAGE to remain the same. Repeated suggestions to put paving blocks like at the tiangus and the east/ west street Lazaro Cardinas (which has been in place without maintenance for close to 20 yeRS) have met demonstrations and defiance.
  16. Carapelli was used by my grandmother and I have gotten it at Walmart. I will try the Mexican again! Thanks to all!!!!!
  17. will call tomorrow--don't want to disturb during holiday😀
  18. There is a young lady age 19 who has a mental age of 13. There seems to be no programs to help her. Local mexicans have found a program in Guadalajara that will teach her remotely IF she can get a usable computer! Can anyone help? Please pm me!
  19. Does anyone know the current import limits when arriving by air? I tried the archives without success> Thanks Harry
  20. the not in my backyard philosophy is dangerous because tomorrow it will be in your bachyard. Overdevelopment without infrastructure is a feature of Chapala development plan. Where will the water come from and where will the sewage go. What impact will these have in the future?????
  21. Bisbee Girl, thank you for helping me keep people informed. You are absolutely right. Pesos can be dropped off at Manix with Donor, email, phone and Technico We have over 60 students paid for and both the mayor and congressman have seen the effort and will be contributing too. Oh Happy Day! I've been up since 5 a.m. working on spreadsheets! If you need pickup call Hector at 331 065 0725. He's being run off his feet so dropoff is preferred.
  22. We are paying 2500 pesos directly into the students account with the college which we will confirm via the student when contacted. If you would like to give $3000 I am sure it would be appreciated and used for books and materials.
  23. BTW to all I have donated to support a student. There are as of this moment, 30 students in the process of being supported. If you would like to support a student and would like to use pesos, you can drop an envelope at Manix restaurant with your name, email, phone and tech. Hector can also pickup if necessary. The director will pick your needy student from those who can't pay next semester's tuition.
  24. We are working with the director and will check.
