  1. Today there is an article on the Reuter news feeds about the early blooming if the Jacaranda tree purple flowers. Apparently it is raising concerns in Mexico city because blooming started in early January when it normally happens in late March. The article which is in English points to climate change as the possible  reason. Mind you they are beautiful when in full bloom.

  2. In 2008 my mom needed an emergency angiogram followed by the implant of 4 stents in Guadalajara and no I did not have insurance for her as she was 83 at the time. I had all the bills translated to English and submitted them to OHIP on return to Ontario. They reimbursed me the equivalent of what the surgery would have cost in Ontario. The thinking back then is that it would have happened regardless of where my mom was. From memory I got back about 50 percent of the total costs which is better then nothing...

  3. Has anyone contracted Mega Cable yet ? They having been pulling trunk cables around Chapala for almost a year now and most recently have an army of sales people offering their fiber optic services. Their Wifi TV combo seems to be much better then what Total Play has to offer. As an example, they include Netflix, 80 TV channels and 250 Megabits for under 600 pesos a month.

  4. Just as a side note my former neighbor in Ontario Canada needed cataract surgery. Unfortunately for him, he had his drivers license suspended until he had the surgery. As I recall it was also around 18 months waiting time. He ended up getting depressed. He was not poor since he use to own a private single engine plane and lived in what was considered a desirable area. I simply did not have the heart to tell him that he could have had the surgery done in Buffalo NY (1/2 hour drive). I had my cataract surgery in Guadalajara about 8 years ago. It was about 25,000 pesos an eye.

And ski resorts in NM are having a great year.

Remember, El Niño makes Europe warmer than normal.  Our friends in England are enjoying a warmer than usual winter after a series of seriously cold and miserable ones.

I'm watching hydrogen and an outfit called Sun Hydrogen.  They are about to demonstrate a commercial level solar panel that cracks water into hydrogen and oxygen directly.

Forget all electric EVs.  They will never overcome the limits of the batteries unless some now unforeseen advance in battery technology greatly improves the energy density limit.

Yes El Nino is part of the problem, but I was first put on snow skies back in 1962 and have no memory of not having snow in the month of February (then again maybe my memory is fading 😊).

I am also watching Sun Hydrogen as this is the future in the making. Wish I could live another 30 years to see this all come together..

  6. There is several articles today on the Reuter news feed about the current condition of ski resorts in Europe. I tried to copy and paste them with no success. In a nut shell, 2 resorts are closed and the majority of all the remaining resorts depend on snow canons.😟 (that is hundreds of resorts).

Yes EV's are expensive mainly because of the battery packs. But if you read up on what is happening in the EV world you will note that many car and truck manufacturers are already planning the switch to FCEV's (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles). This will greatly reduce costs as it will reduce about 80% of battery capacity requirements.

This is called transition and it can not happen overnight but it will happen because common sense will prevail.

I was a technical writer, trainer and project manager for a major IT corporation. I also worked as a legal investigator. Why do you ask?

Because I am looking for a smart person to help me with my spelling issues. 😊

That's because it's a three letter word and the search function doesn't work for three letter words. As Ibarra suggested, type in Accountant and you will see lots of past threads.

Or use a 4 letter word followed by the word "taxes". 😊

  9. Yesterday I was reading an article in the "Tribune de Geneve" covering the yearly hot air balloon competition taking place in Chateau d'Oex. This is a ski resort in Switzerland which I have used many times in my youth. The pictures blew me away as there was no snow. Found a website  that gives the snow conditions and it stated all installations closed. Darn these theories are really killing the ski season.....
