  1. I add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar while cooking the broth and it helps dissolve the collagen making a gelatinous broth. It doesn't make the soup sour either....
  2. Jose who sells leather purses on extension of the Ajijic plaza makes his own bags and does a lovely job....
  3. Los Altoss gas, Javier and crew 331 517 8008 never had a bad experience with them, prompt and curtious
  4. Lori and Jerry Brown are very nice folks, but $750 isn't cheap! The last place we rented in Ajijic was about $250 USD for a 3BR/1BA house with a yard and parking. Unfortunately the owners will be renovating it and not renting it again--sob.... the best deals are with local mexican landlords, not rental agencies, but that takes some sleuthing.
  5. They'ers do. It's a family recipe and used for most of their items.
  6. They start work at 4am and make so many different items and only sell fresh.....
  7. schatzki ring is associated with hiatial hernia. I have a great book about it by Dr. T. Baroody that describes this problem and self help solutions. Another tip was drinking tumeric milk 2=3 times a day to reduce inflamation. I had a friend who couldn't eat rice, which she loves ,because it would get "stuck" there. She had the surgery, so I'll ask her what her experience was....
  8. The Casa Cultura is on the plaza in Ajijic where Dean Niles gives an exercise class for seniors.
  9. Amen. And attendance at a memorial is not an indication of his popularity or the worth of his life's work, after all some of the best attended of these events are of bad people that everyone wanted to make sure was really dead....
  10. Our friend Carla had a medical emergency last month and was transferred somewhere in Ajijic. We have sent 3 emails to the gofundme site person with no reply. does anyone have any info? we'd really like to go visit her. send us a pm....
  11. Because we live in Ajijic, don't have a car and like to do business/schmooze with the folks that go to that tianguis. Does that splain it to you? Those of us that really care asked this last week and are passing on our results.....
  12. talked to some of the vendors last Wednesday and some of them said that they would be there as usual, others like Vicky's sourdough donuts said that they wouldn't....
  13. that side of the street along the south side of the plaza is called Parroquia, which refers to the church at the end of the street. Mexijims1 I cannot imagine a more "heart of Ajijic" location than on the plaza.
  14. We are having a big sale as we lost the lease on house we were renting due to the landlord wanting to renovate. We have hundreds of books in many catagories--whole mystery sets, self-help, history, kids books--and some interesting videos. There are toys, clothes and a few pieces of furniture and a ping pong table in need of a new top. 1er privada Guadalupe Victoria #3, Ajijic Saturday-Sunday 10-2pm. more info: tablatal@yahoo.com
  15. The young woman is back in front of Scallions during the Wednesday tianguis . For the holiday season she has in addition to her stainless steel straws she has gift baskets the include them with some other products like a crystal alumite deodorant packet and special soap/shampoo.
  16. Purple Garlic Pizza has been closed for the last 2 weeks due to an accident that the owner, Javier was involved. He still is wearing a surgical collar, but feels "well enough" to get back to work. It could have been a whole lot worse as the taxi he was riding in ran into the concert barrier in front of Walmart and totaled the car. Javier is excited about seeing all his old customers and enjoying our high season. Drop by and say "hola" to him and his crew and taste some of his excellent pizzas and salads or a special drink.
  17. This is bad info---Purple garlic Pizza Brothers is still on the Ajijic plaza, there has been no rent increase, I am the lease holder. The reason that they are closed right now is because of the bad accident that Javier got into in an Uber in front of Walmart last week. We hope he is on his way to recovery and will reopen quickly. No need to report a premature demise.....sorry I couldn't pull up the original quote, but it is mentioned on their homepage.
  18. I suspect that you'll have to use a papaya that is turned yellow but not yet soft. Did you know that papaya leaf tea is a specific remedy for dengue fever? and you have an organic papaya tree...and if you add chopped mint leaves to papaya it tastes like the best melon you ever ate.
  19. Finally it can be told---Vicky and her husband David have opened their Bakery. They have been selling at the Wednesday tienguis on the extention behind El Torito for the last year which they will continue to do. There is always a line of at least a dozen people waiting for their baked goods and so we were all keeping our "find" a secret. They use a family recipe for sourdough starter that really makes a difference---their Boston Cream Pie, maple with bacon, jelly donuts are the best we've ever had, and their sourdough bread, bagels, cinnamon rolls and many other pastries are top-rate. Congratulations! Now you can also find them at: Libramiento 103-A across from the Laguna Centro Mall near Walmart. Whatsapp/Cel 333-950-1024 Advanced orders welcome!
  20. Available only on Saturdays from about noon until its gone! Fantastic breading, tender moist chicken. El Pollo Gordo Carretera Ajijic , about 5 doors west of Colon on the Mountainside
  21. Ugh. There is so much coming and going here that sometimes these important events are missed. We all have many good friends that are only here part time. i doubt any of them would know how to contact my family and also doubt that my family would mind if my death was acknowledged. Its not like Eric gave out any sordid details, only expressed him condolences and put it out there for anyone else to do the same. What side of the bed did you wake up on today?
  22. We are a community here, we're all connected and your response was one of kindness and respect. We all know Spenser, even if only from his postings and I as well wish to convey my condolences at this important time for him and his family. You'd think after All Soul's Day we would all have a more philosophical look at death and dieing. Eric , in my opinion , did the human thing of acknowledging this important milestone in Spenser's life and including our community. I only hope that when it's my turn to go I won't be ignored and that my friends and acquaintances won't think I'm just on a trip somewhere.....
