  1. My LG TV monitor just went bonkers. There are very vivid colors flashing and shaking over the pictures. I tried to talk w/the tech from LG but due to my hearing problem. couldn't understand his instruction. I'm looking for someone who can/will do house calls. Thanks.
  2. Thinking back, I was sent to PROFECO one time by the M.P. and it was a 100% waste of time. A lot of some of the not the nicest people know that most gringos will just eat the loss rather than take a minimum of two trips to PROFECO. And as said abive,If you left one T not crossed, they will tel you to fix it and come back. Yes, if your time is worth little to nothing, it might be worth it, but usually not. That is why I would love to see something like the BBB here, or a Small Claims court that could make binding orders/judgments. Too much to ask?
  3. I am told that Profeco only is for use by visitors relating to merchants and can't be used by perm. Residents. Thanks.
  4. Thanks, but it's not worth the $800 costt of the consultation, which I can't recover in arbitration. I will try and check at the municipal building.
  5. Is there anyplace Lakeside where "the system" assists in resolving "small" disputes with a merchant? I was ripped off by a local store for $1,500.00, and I don't want to just walk away. Letting them walk just encourages these kind of people to rip off more gringos. Any help here? Thanks.
  6. The guys that I paid $1,200 for a "new" motor put the fan back and it stopped after a week. They cam back and did whatever and it started. 3 days later it stopped. Now they have to look for a new motor and will "get back to us." I am very fed up with being cheated, especially when there is realistically nothing I can do.
  7. Thanks, I'll check, but as I recall, last time I looked, they didn't have any ceiling fans. And the place near Sunrise is the overpriced one.
  8. I got screwed over by a couple of guys who said my fan motor needed replacement. It absolutely did. They said they would put a new one in for $1,200.00. I said OK and paid. They put it in. Four days later, it stopped working. They came out an "fixed" it. Three days later, it stopped working. I'll take the loss and look for a new one. I saw one in Riberas, a real piece of cheap junk and small. Store wanted near $3,000. II would like a working, decent one or will go to Costco. Thanks..
  9. I donated $15,000 worth of paint for the Chapala Bench Project. Hector had it delivered to him. This was a couple of months ago. Never heard from him again, even after going to the Municipal Building in Chapala and talking with the Chief of staff. Not even a "Thank you" note.
  10. I have a 4G phone and it is loaded with bloatware that I want removed, but don't know if anyone does it Lakeside. Any direct experience? Thanks.
  11. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but rarely will a worker call and say they can show up at the designated time, they just don't show up. Also, getting a return call is a real task. Just something we have to live with.
  12. BofA sucks on this point. I know someone who dumped BofA in favor of Cap 1, got US$300 for changing her SS direct deposit to Cap 1, and SU@150 for getting their CC and spending $500 on it within the first 90 days. Plus the best benefit of Cap 1 is that you don't have to sometimes wait for more than an hour on hold.
  13. There still needs to be clarification as to what is called NOB, "Causual/randon labor." No fixed schedule. But, if you have him/her work regularly every week or two weeks, and "regularly" is the operative term, then this may apply to expats. Knowing Mexico, it could also be a paperwork jungle to do it "right." The part that might concern some, are the (hearsay) stories of random maids and gardeners "suddenly" deciding they want back pay and benefits and you get a visit from the Ministry of Labor or whatever it's called. I understand this sort of happened a few years ago at a restaurant in the Riberas area and the owner ended up having to close down for the amount of $$ that was assessed. As was pointed out above, maids/gardeners get very much more than the daily minimum wage here in "Gringoland."
  14. Same problem with Dr. Don.Substandard work, lied , and to compound the matter, he is suffering from some debilitating condition that causes his hand(s) to shake. He also promised a refund to the attorney I hired and never paid up. He says he is broke. Now that Dr. Garcia is moving to the new hospital, West of where he is now, Dr. Don may be out in the cold. Dr. Garcia told me that Dr. Don would not be coming to the hospital. I also talked to Dr. Garcia about Dr. Don, but nothing came of it. I got the impression from an "insider" that Maskaras may either fold or rebrand itself. IMO, Dr. Don is a liability to any clinic. My attorney here is handling it now.
  15. I have some items I would like to offer for free, but can't find a category in Classified. What is my best bet? Thanks.
  16. Most people don't know that. One dentista (woman) just west of Walmart on the lake side of the street, has a complaint pending against her for fraud. It was reviewed by the head attorney at the Ministerio Publico and he signed off on it. I believe it was fraud. Removed healthy teeth (all of the woman's teeth), lied about her having the training and qualifications to do dental implants and more. When the Ministerio Publico sent an investigator out to her office to get copies of her file for the patient, she refused to give it to the investigator. There is a scathing "review" of her in detail on a website put up specifically as to this incident. Also, the only way other than a criminal complaint to get at these incompetent and rip-off doctors/dentists, is to get a court order (injunction) stopping them from practicing. Otherwise, no matter what they do, they can't be stopped as there is no licensing board here.
  17. All the above posts are spot on. And as to Utilitus, your due diligence was the way to go. Here is the word on a Chapala dentist that must be read, including some recent posts about him. www.maskarasclinic.com Don't forget one important thing. In the U.S., if a health care professional screws up, you can take legal action. In Mexico, if that happens, the doctor may apologize for the inconvenience and then go on to his/her next victim.
  18. Spent about a hour at CAMAJAL in Guadalajara today. Spoke with one of the intake persons. CAMAJAL is a (required) arbitration forum that is a prerequisite to filing a civil action. It is used almost exclusively for health care professional (HCP) disputes. During my conversation, I confirmed some things I knew and got some information I did not know or even suspect. First, I asked if there is any "Board" or other official body that tests or certified physicians in Jalisco. No. It was confirmed that the CITA (I think that's it) simply shows that the HCP has received and registered that he/she has graduated medical/dental school and received a diploma. This is as I pretty much knew. Next I asked about if there was any governmental body/organization that disciplined a HCP in the event of "misconduct" for gross negligence in the performance of his/her practice. No. I got more specific and asked as a very extreme example, what if a doctor is drunk, operated on a patient and cuts off the wrong leg. Can his/her ability to practice his/her profession be stopped. "Possibly." It was explained that a court can make an order (injunction) against a person who, while having completed the requisite training, is unable to competently practice his/her profession and is putting his/her patients at risk. This is an application of general laws against doing any act, intentionally or negligently, that is likely to or does cause physical pain and suffering to the patient. In other words, our drunk doctor can be enjoined from continuing practice. Where does it go from there? No idea. The takeaways from this post are 1) It appears to be false, misleading and deceptive to say an HCP is "BOARD CERTIFIED." AND 2) While there is civil recourse against a negligent HCP, it is most likely that realistically, there is little that can be done to stop the incompetent (for whatever reason) from continuing practice on unsuspecting patients. NEXT UP: What about malpractice insurance for HCPs?
  19. IMO, unless someone has truly deep-pockets, it is no sin to ask and/or compare prices in areas where, depending on the procedure(s) can have price tags going into 6 figures. The above is doubly true if there is little or no insurance coverage available. I'm going tomorrow to try to get as many specifics about their services/prices and especially the signage that broadly indicates so many procedures are/may be covered by insurance such as VA and Medicare Advantage. Remember, not only is the Devil in the details, but don't order the meal and eat it and then ask the price (I made that up).

  21. How much was the hospital charge? That is a VERY LOW price no matter how you look at it.
  22. This thread is a perfect example of the value and help of personal experiences. Of course, no one is perfect and humans make errors. If I were doing due diligence on a doctor, and I found 9 positive reports and 1 negative, I would not be deterred from the doctor. If I found several negatives, I would reconsider my choice. I wish I had done that when with Dr. Don, Lakeside dentist. I would also like to know the costs involved. That is a reality many of us need to consider since even a great price can be out of reach for some. I would really like to see a category for medical/dental procedures and associated prices. Lakeside.
  23. Your best bet, IMO, is to talk to your mechanic. They usually make one or two times a week to Guadalajara for parts (used) that they can't find locally. Tell him what you need, and chances are he will find it. My mechanic for more than 10 years has done that for me on sever occasions. Another possibility is to check out the "local" car graveyards. There is one I know on the way to Lucky Dog. Hope this helps.
  24. Prefer Chapala but will look in Ajijic. Directions appreciated w/landmarks. Thanks.
  25. Not just form filling, and not in Ajijic. English not needed. This is not the kind of case Spencer handles. Thanks.
