  1. Mercado Libre: New 45 gal. Altamira tank $9,499 MXN. Free Shipping, Free return. I bought a 65 gal. tank and the gardener changed out the old tank in 20 minutes - very easy. He now has a free BBQ grill...!!! https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-940448015-tanque-hidroneumatico-altamira-de-diafragma-45-gal-pro-xlb-_JM#position=1&search_layout=grid&type=item&tracking_id=d95a8df7-a861-4375-820c-75f54cd340af
  2. I've had my Opiere Solar System for almost 1 year now and I have been continually tracking my electricity generation/consumption during this period. I have been averaging 125.1% of my energy needs therefore installing a couple of extra A/C mini splits should be not be an issue. What I don't understand is, have I built up a credit with CFE for the 25% surplus electricity that is fed back into their grid? If I use more electricity, say, in May/June using A/C, than the solar panels generate, can I dip into the surplus credit and therefore still pay just the minimum payment charge of 25kWh/month? (~54 pesos for 2 month accounting period)
  3. 6 years of living in Upper Ajijic and we're almost ready to throw in the towel and move to Joco or Chapala. The last week or so has been horrendous trying to drive anywhere during the day for shopping, appointments of one sort or another or simply meeting friends. I guess the Snowbirds are starting to arrive, which is to be expected, but that, coupled with more and more Mexicans, local and Tapatios, having motor vehicles generates a congestion beyond compare! More and more rude, arrogant and abusive gringos, especially at the local restaurants, also seems be the growing trend in Ajijic. Chapala seems a more vibrant town, frequented by local families, especially in the evening hours, where I can stroll along the lovely Malecon and say, "Hola" to any Mexican stranger and receive a genuine greeting in return - it used to be like this in Ajijic amongst the Gringos and Mexicans. Sorry for portraying such a negative view of our Pueblo Magico...
  4. I plan on flying to Texas next week with 4 bottles of Tequila as gifts. 1 bottle is duty-free and the other 3 must be declared for import-tax. Has anyone been through this scenario at Customs & Border Control and paid the required duty and was it an easy process?
  5. Computer dead - possibly PSU. I have extracted the 1T. hard drive and need to extract a few files from it ASAP. Can anyone Lakeside do this for me - maybe burn onto DVD, flashdrive, etc?
  6. I can't get my Mexican credit card or debit card to be accepted for payment. Also my U.S. credit card is not accepted. Think I go and talk to my Mexican bank. Something like this has happened before!
  7. I'm looking for a shop/retailer that can supply the crossbars, mounting brackets and a cargo basket for a 2021 Ford Escape. Amazon MX and Mercado Libre MX have some but not not all the parts I need. I know all the required part numbers. Where can I purchase Thule equipment locally or in the Guadalajara area?
  8. It seems to be a requirement when selling a house in Mexico. Realtors keep asking for a recent CFE and Telmex bill with a RFC number referenced. Telmex was easy, just logon to your account and add it yourself. Had to go into CFE in Chapala today and have it added to their bill but it was very easy and only took a few minutes!
  9. How do I get my RFC number added to my CFE bill? Do I need to go to their office in person?
  10. Maid: Suspended for 2 weeks with full pay - reassess after this period. Gardener: Still working full-time 30 hours/week. He wanted to stay home - he lives next door.
  11. On all our pre-retirement visits (4) to Ajijic my wife and I rented a car at the airport and drove all over the place from Guadalajara centro to Manzanillo on the coast and back. Looking back I would do the same again. Also, we walked many miles around the streets of Ajijic, San Antonio, Rancho del Oro and even up into the mountains. Driving is a little different here and can be somewhat stressful at times. If you feel confident driving in unfamiliar surroundings do consider renting a small car...
  12. When driving west, you can drive down the bicycle path to avoid the topes...!!! No, no, no I would never do that, but being a frequent driver of that stretch of road I've noticed it's becoming a common, and potentially very dangerous, practice...!!!
  13. After living in the Chapala area for more than 18 months I have gradually reduced my disinfecting of fruit and vegetables to times only when guests are entertained or when a produce really looks like it needs treatment. I never get sick so I assume I have built up some tolerance to the local bacteria just like the local people. On my first 3 visits (weekly vacations) to Mexico, years ago, I was violently sick with stomach problems every time!
  14. What kind of storage units/facilities are there around the Ajijic/Chapala area that could store a smallish amount of furniture, tools and general household belongings. Looking at moving to Mexico and shipping some of our stuff down from Ohio early next year. Any info on monthly storage costs would be particularly useful. Any one have any experience/insights?
