The whole pysche of the Guadalajara market is different than Lakeside. Besides the obvious of needing a roof over your head, Guadalajarans seem to have a more patriarchal or matriarchal vision of family estates, family compounds, with a heirarchy right up to El Patron. These can be projects which take many generations to accomplish, or be destroyed by one stroke of bad luck.
The ones who "invest" in Lakeside treat these properties far less seriously. They hope to see some increase in value, obviously, but many are just hiding away some money, hopefully generating some U.S. dollars for vacation travel, U.S. shopping trips, etc. The problem for this crew, including US and World investors, also hiding some money away, is that the tax collectors are becoming increasingly skilled and canny.
There are of course Tapatios who purchase homes Lakeside purely for the enjoyment of their families. Like cabins at the Lake. And what fun they have! I would never complain about noise. I grew up that way and I am perfectly normal tee hee.
President Biden has just mandated a massive reorganisation of the IRS to focus on trillions of missing taxes. That will have a big effect Lakeside and also the coastal properties.
Be careful of generalizations. I rent in Chapala a casita, one of two on a huge property with a large house. It has all been owned by the same family for generations. I pay rent in pesos and the landlord maintains and repairs everything upon request. He wants good tenants who will care for the property his family feels a generational responsibility for. I know several people in Ajijic who rent casitas on even larger properties with more casitas. They were all once weekend/vacation properties for large families and now rent some or all of the casitas. It is not just in Guadalajara.

I understand but it sounds hopeless to get a clear answer. If you understand it that does not make it true.
Life is full of unclear answers. You do the best you can to access information from reliable sources and make your decisions as best you can. Some people are invested in not understanding anything contrary to their preconceived reality. It is useless to present facts and information to these people — and a waste of time to argue with them.

Just because you do not understand nor like the truth does not make it not true.

On my device in the bar across the top of the box I am typing in (where you choose typeface changes and other formatting) there is a smiley face. Click on that and you have a bunch of emojis to choose from. 🤗

You are right, but it is certainly starting to lean that way very quickly. Look at Walgreens rollout, Biden's latest request for private sector help, and in the UK, private sector just a couple weeks away. The government will say, fine, if people dont want these vaccines, we will not let them pile up, we will just sell all these doses or give them away to needy countries.
What a long, round-about way of saying, “I was wrong.” 🤣

My point is that a dim cartoon saying "confused" or "sad" does not add anything relevant or informative to the discussion. What are they confused or sad about? I guess that I made my point since the person who placed the "sad" thing on a perfectly clear and informative post on this chain has since deleted it!!!
I can ‘t speak for other posters but when I use emojis it’s simply offering my agreement, disagreement, or reaction when either the person posting has expressed what I would have said (so why repeat the same thing) or I simply do not care enough to spend time writing something to someone who will inevitably misunderstand or not understand at all what I say anyway. Emojis are used by billions of people around the world despite probably millions of people who don’t like them or fail to understand the point. You are not going to stop the use here or anywhere else. Just ignore them.

As we approach the first day of May, the cicadas seem to be emerging. We all know the rainy season begins in mid-June. Just do the math. I'm sorry the total number of days between the two exceeds the total number of fingers and toes on the average human, thereby making this calculation that much more difficult for a certain percentage of the population.
I am curious to see if this early start to the "rainbird" season indicates an early start to the rainy season. You may want to plant your crops a little early this year.
Or you may not since every year there are early cicadas and people speculating (with some predicting) this means an early start to the rainy season. It doesn’t. That has nothing to do with why some people have changed the “prediction” from six weeks to suddenly three from when we first begin hearing the cicadas.

Can you advise how to get information about new restaurants to those who don't routinely access the restaurant site but di access the general site? thank you
When a reader goes to Forums to access the general forum they need to scroll down the list to forums dedicated to specialized topics. If they are not interested enough to do that they are not a likely customer. I access through “Unread Content” which shows everything I have not read and includes all forums. Also, Facebook has several groups dedicated to local food and restaurants. Many local restaurants post in these groups regularly, some every day.

After living here for 13 years this thread is the first I have heard that rain is due three weeks after we first hear the cicadas. Up until now it has always been six weeks. When did it become three weeks?

I'd say that they're probably different in Guadalajara. I've rented in San Miguel de Allende, in Bucerias and San Pancho and Lakeside and have never been asked for a fiador.
After 13 years and five previous rentals here, I moved recently and, for the first time, was asked for a fiador in Chapala. The owner lives in Guadalajara and uses a boilerplate lease. It’s just what they do. It is not yet common lakeside but it happens and may begin to happen more.

The dish looks a disgusting mess, but I think I have seen it served at Viva Mexico in SJC
You are right. It is a mess and so very disgusting. Never, ever order one and certainly never eat it, not even a taste. If everyone had your eye and palate, food like this would not even exist. We’d have neat and tidy food instead. But the barbarians you are surrounded by eat that dish and actually enjoy it. Can you imagine? Oh, sorry. Obviously not.

Yes, I am well aware of what cicadas are and do, I have lived where they are prolific for 18 years.
My question was why when someone refers to them as cicadas, which is what they are, people in this board find it necessary to tell them that they are called rainbirds where you live, even though they aren't birds.
Maybe because when they first moved here someone told them the story and they found it to be an interesting, quirky, part of local lore. The fact that these are insects and not birds but are called birds is the quirkiest part of the story. They share it because it is part of this place, their experience of living here. What I don’t understand is why this silly, quirky, local story that amuses most people annoys you so much.

He has been my vet for about six years. I have dogs and cats. They love him. He does not order a bunch of expensive tests unless they are needed or sell expensive drugs and supplements. He will make house calls. He came to my house to put down my 16-year-old dog and was so kind and gentle. His prices are reasonable.

I just bought a container for kibble at the Friends of the Animals store next to Ladrone’s in Riberas. They have various sizes and the one I got holds my medium size bag perfectly. Also, a friend told me she saw some at Costco. I already had a scoop so did not look at the supply wall But bet they sell scoops too. I think Pet Avenue might also have containers because they seem to have EVERYTHING.
I am sorry about Minnie.

The reason is the Mexicans are so disorgaized no one knows when the second Sinovac will happen. It is already overdue. Poor communication.
Looks like you can take your chances on getting the second shot late or not at all. Or you can take your chances getting a different vaccine for your second shot. Like everything else about this pandemic we are left to make the best decision we can on limited and/or conflicting information. Best of luck.

Google can get a good source for this question..
look at reliable medical sources for opinions ..
one site - Cleveland Clinic which is a reliable source of info - essentially says - do not mix ..
The reason they give for not mixing is “”The safety and effectiveness of mixed vaccines has not be studied and more research is needed.”

Some people I know had the Sinovac vaccine about a month ago. While waiting for their 2nd Sinovac vaccince they got a different vaccine instead. I can not find any good information that this mixing should be done or not. Any ideas out there?
I think it is like everything about Covid19: no one really knows for sure. It may be just fine but it might not. Probably worst case scenario is that it would not be as effective.
What is their reasoning for doing it and suggesting you do the same?- 1

Molcajete restaurant on the east end of Chapala malecon next to (north) of Cozumel has a molcajete as you describe. It is delicious. One easily served three people. Comes with free margaritas.

No “serious side effects.” No one taken to hospital. Stopped vaccinations at that one store for that day. Vaccinations will be resumed at that store. Other than that, you are correct.
