  1. GREAT news they found the 8 kidnapped people in good health and are now safe. Hopefully they will find the kidnappers and be able to prosecute them. I, too, heard many sirens throughout the afternoon and hoped the news would be good news. Salud! Val
  2. All very sad and frightening. Thinking of the families who have lost loved ones. Val
  3. Looking for someone NOB who is coming SOB in the near future that would be willing to receive a package from Amazon. I'm opening my last box of Luzianne iced tea bags and unfortunately neither Amazon US nor Amazon Mexico ships that product SOB. Let me know if you or someone you know is coming this way and willing to accept a delivery and bring them south. As always, many thanks! Val
  4. Hi Joy, I found a new guy, I'll see if I can find his card. But, here's how to get to his taller. Go to GDL on the Chapala-GDL Carretera, take Lazaro Cardeñas until you see the exit for Mercado de Abastos. Sometimes the signs are hidden by the trees but it's before the golden arches. Once you exit, you'll be on a lateral for just a moment. Stay in your left lane and take a left at the traffic light. Go under the Lazaro Cardeñas bridge and continue driving straight. You'll pass through the very busy Mercado de Abastos. As you're leaving the Mercado area (about 8 blocks), you'll see a small park on the left. Take a left at the next traffic light. Pass the park (now on your left) and take an immediate left onto a small one way street. You'll see his taller on your right. There are other tanks and canisters generally lined up in front of his business. He charges $100 pesos to re-fill the larger Soda Stream canister. I usually take 3 at a time and return on my next GDL visit to pick them up. I always keep 1 full so I'm never without. OK, found his card. ERGED is the name of his business, he's J.Eduardo Martinez Aguero. Address is: Bellota #1795 Local 27, GDL His phone number is 333-563-4274 and his email is: erged2002@yahoo.com.mx Hope this helps and tell him Val & John from Ajijic say "hi." Salud, Val
  5. While I'm not a beer drinker, I always have some in the fridge for the gardener(s), pool guy, etc. We ran out last week. Salud, Val
  6. We would be interested! Let us know when it's commercially available and how to place an order. Thanks! Val
  7. So sorry to read this sad news, R.I.P. Mauricio. Thinking of his family during this difficult time. Val Jones
  8. This is so very sad. Thinking of the families who have lost loved ones. Every time I hear the church bells signal a death in the village, I cringe and hope it isn't one of our friends. Val
  9. Ever since Pancho's opened, I've preferred shopping there instead of Superlake. He's responsive when asked to bring in new/additional items. I like the products (including alcohol) he's bringing in from Costco as well as the fresh food at the back of the store near the Deli. I was there yesterday or the day before and everyone was wearing masks, lots of hand sanitizer everywhere, directional arrows on the aisles and adherence to social distancing. Many thanks to Pancho and his employees for taking precautions in an effort to keep their clientele safe while shopping. Salud! Val
  10. Sorry I'm just now seeing this. Sounds like a lovely Mother's Day feast. Thanks Bobby and Staff! Val Jones
  11. WOW!!! Loving this GREAT rain storm in upper Ajijic. Please let CFE and iLox stay connected, LOL! ENJOY! Val
  12. I am grateful to the men and women who are working tirelessly in an effort to protect all residents, lakeside. The body camera video does show the man (now identified as the Director of the Preparatory school) as being belligerent and aggressive. He was given the opportunity several times to turn around and return to GDL or go to jail. Sadly, he chose jail. Surely any work he may have needed to do could have been done remotely. Most of us are making the necessary adjustments to our work and retirement lives in an effort to avoid this dreadful and potentially deadly virus. It is people who behave in a careless and inconsiderate manner that are causing the rest of us to extend the quarantine much longer than necessary. I urge everyone to limit travel to essential activities, take all possible precautions to avoid infection and transmission of the virus and to follow the stay at home orders. Should you need to venture out for essential errands, please take your identification, license and proof of residency to avoid a situation like this. And although most of us are stressed out, frightened, upset and even angry, we must remember to be polite and cooperative with the essential workers who are trying to keep us safe. Stay safe and healthy. Val Jones
  13. TelsZ4, my comment was made based on several observations. I saw a photo and read an article stating the backup on the GDL-Chapala Hwy. near Chapala Haciendas had a line running approximately 2 kilometers in length. The article (dated May 2nd) went on to say 7,023 people in 2.621 vehicles were analyzed with none exhibiting symptoms of respiratory disease. This number includes vehicles entering Chapala, Vallarta, & Manzanillo. This Jalisco state statistic gives me/us an idea of the numbers of vehicles moving from point A to point B in search of some form of vacation/recreation. As this is Labor Day-3 day weekend, it's safe to assume larger numbers of cars entering lakeside are seeking some form of entertainment away from their residence. While many businesses are closed, the lakefront, some hotels and Air BnB homes/condominiums are very much open for business. A friend was lamenting the loud party just below him in one of the fraccionamiento's located off the periferico. Seems the large number of guests arrived Friday and there's been non-stop loud music into the wee hours throughout the weekend. He's called to report it, but nothing has been done. Today I saw and heard a helicopter blasting a message in Spanish telling people to shelter inside, wear face-masks, etc. and we haven't had that until now. Last night, the police truck(s) were going through upper Ajijic blasting the same type of message in Spanish and English. We have had that the last couple of weeks. Cohetes have returned and we haven't had that the last month or so as well. When I drove to Bruno's about 5 pm yesterday (Saturday), there was considerably more traffic on the Carretera than when I went to buy produce on Tuesday. Mostlylost's comment about the sanitary checkpoint on the Highway from GDL yesterday (Saturday) with a 3+ hour wait also lends credibility to my assertion that cars and people are streaming into lakeside in search of fresher air, visiting the lake and holiday revelry. Clearly none of us have any control over the actions of individuals who feel their desire to recreate lakeside is more important than our municipality's desire to reduce our exposure to the virus. All we can do to reduce exposure is take precautions and continue to self-quarantine until there is a viable treatment for this dreadful and potentially deadly disease. Stay safe and healthy! Salud, Val Jones
  14. 331-305-4261 just called. "Don't you know who this is???" You know the story from there...I played with him for a bit and then told him he shouldn't be scamming people, especially during this frightening and dreadful pandemic. Whatever. Just check caller I.D.
  15. Thanks for messaging us. We try to be as responsive as possible. If you would like to make a reservation, please call 376 766 1674 from 2:30pm-9pm Tuesday-Sunday. For further inquiries we will get to you as soon as possible. This is the response I got yesterday when I confirmed my Prime Rib order. I placed the order earlier in the week to ensure they'd still have some available for Saturday. They offer pick up and delivery. Since I am close enough, I opted for pick up. We ordered extra rare and one medium rare. Both were cooked, perfectly! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Cheers! Val
  16. Apparently following AMLO's statements that roadblocks like ours during Easter violate the Mexican Constitution, local authorities are only able to stop and screen for obvious signs of virus such as fever. So, Friday, the Guadalajarans began streaming in to "enjoy" time lakeside. The residency requirement once in place is no longer permitted for screening purposes. Sadly, this means longer isolation for those of us are taking this pandemic seriously and I expect we shall see cases of the virus lakeside in the next 2 weeks. Hoping residents will take all precautions possible to avoid this deadly virus. Stay safe and healthy. Salud, Val
  17. Many thanks for sharing information about the wonderfully fascinating life Michael Robbins had. I didn't meet him until dining at Jasmine's Classic India restaurant in the Ajijic Plaza. Thoroughly enjoyed conversations with both him and Nancy but had no idea of his entire background. So very sorry for the loss of this wonderful man. Condolences to his family. Val Jones
  18. Just heard them tonight about 7:30 pm in upper Ajijic. YES!!! 6 weeks from now is June 9th. PLEASE!!! Stay safe! Val
  19. Hi, Writing for a friend who needs a a thorough cleaning on his house due to a severe eye infection. Dr. has said he needs a super sanitary home and he's elderly and incapable of doing it himself. Does anyone know if Spring Clean or a similar service is being provided during the COVID- pandemic situation? Many thanks, in advance, for your information. Val Jones
  20. Went today (Saturday) about 4:30 pm. The store appeared to be closed but the sign written on the door said they are open but to enter through the Cosmetic store next door. Just the two ladies working and 1 couple checking out so plenty of social distancing was done. Got the necessary items, in and out in about 10 minutes. Salud! Val
  21. Check out Amazon.com.mx for window film. There are some amazing options, economical, delivery in 2 days and can be easily installed, DIY, at home. Just received mine for a small project. Note: you need a window squeegee to do the installation correctly. So, now, where to find one of those today? Cheers! Val
  22. Yes, very helpful. Thanks for sharing! Stay safe and healthy, Val
  23. We also live on a very narrow street in Ajijic. We often experience a situation similar to yours where someone attending a meeting in the AA Clubhouse has parked partially in our driveway. There's a power pole located on the opposite side of the street from our driveway. At the best of times, it's difficult to get into or out of the driveway due to the narrow nature of the street and location of the pole. When one or more have parked us in, it's impossible. Many times we've had to interrupt AA meetings to ask someone to move their car. Other times, we've parked a block away and waited for the meeting to end. We've prepared a flyer in English and Spanish and leave it on the windshield of the offending car. Most are apologetic but some don't seem to understand that if we had a life-threatening emergency and needed out of the driveway to get to the Clinic or Hospital, we don't have time to locate whose car is blocking our exit. We approached CFE and asked if they could move the power pole and got a strong "NO!" After asking again, we were told for a very high price, they would relocate the pole. So, we continue the dance. Wishing you luck with getting your neighbor to be more considerate. Cheers! Val
