Vaccine Message from Chapala Expat Liaison
thevalerieleigh replied to HarryB's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
I was there today (Monday) at the Technology Institute, arriving about 10. The vaccines arrived around 11. Vaccinations geared up about Noon and I was out by 1 pm. As for paperwork before entering the Auditorium, they wanted my printed CURP, printed "mivacuna" pre-registration page and preferred the copy of my passport over the copy of my Permanente card. They didn't ask me for any additional information. Now, of course, we all know things can change throughout any given day at any given site, depending on a variety of factors. I think we're pretty accustomed to bringing copies of everything they could possibly want in an effort to not waste a trip or have to return home for more documentation. Feels GREAT to be vaccinated! VIVA!!! VIVA MEXICO!!! Salud, Val -
Hi Mainecoons,
Can you tell me where you found the granular boric acid? We have 3 Chihuahuas and don't want to risk any chance of poisoning. I have found large cockroaches on counter tops in the kitchen late at night. I'd like to get some to put around the edges of the back splash area.
Thanks,
Val

Thanks, Panama requires a negative PCR within 48 hours of arrival in Panama. This makes me wonder how to get the test results quickly enough to accommodate their requirements. Val. 😎

Has anyone gotten the PCR done at the airport before a flight? It seems to take more turn around time and I'm curious what experiences (if any) people have had before a flight at GDL. Thanks, Val

chalk marks next to front door

One of the Brigadistas stopped by our place in upper Ajijic yesterday. He was very professional and had ample documentation to justify his request to enter the property and check for potential dengue mosquito areas. He put a small bag of a white substance in our tinaco and checked the fountains and other potential areas of standing water. I offered him a Coke and propina. He took the Coke and rejected the propina. VIVA MEXICO! Salud, Val -
My sister, Selecia Young-Jones, is a certified Remote-on-line Notary and can notarize your documents for less money and you can avoid a trip into GDL. You can contact her at rainbownotaryandnuptials.com or at 904-333-7311. She's had success helping lakeside folks this past year while the Consulate was shut down. She can also help with getting your document Apostile for a very low price. Check her out! Val Jones

My friend, Karen, has purchased a home in another Mexican state and recently closed on it. She's just learned that they do not permit what they deem "aggressive" breeds in her fracc. As you can imagine, she's heart broken as she's invested significantly in her new home and now must find a home for her fur baby. She is a 4 year old Pit Bull, spayed, has her collar/leash, food, food bowl, toy and is loving. The only caveat is, she doesn't do well with cats. If anyone would like to adopt her, please send me a P.M. and I'll give you Karen's contact information. And yes, before the insults begin, I am aware she should have asked about this kind of restriction before buying a home. Not everyone thinks of these things so please don't judge her. She feels terrible, already.

Deeply saddened to read this unexpected news about the loss of Richard Tingen. Although I was just an acquaintance, I always found him to be kind, charming and charismatic. I certainly do enjoy the monthly Ojo Del Lago which he created and have tremendous admiration and respect for him. So very sorry for this loss, thinking of his family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Mr. Tingen. Val Jones

Before moving to Mexico, my husband enjoyed flying ultralights but it was something that was just too large to try and ship down to Ajijic so he sold his two ultralights. He's now interested in returning to the sport. Does anyone know how to contact the Ultralight Park located on the road going towards Vista de Lago? With COVID, we don't want to drive out there for an in-person contact, but are hoping someone either knows a phone number, contact person and/or internet site where we can learn more about their enrollment options, fees, how to buy and get an ultralight in Mexico, etc. As always, thanks for your help. Happy Holidays, Val Jones

Once about 10 years ago, I had to buy a return ticket when checking in at the Delta counter in Atlanta. I bought a First Class ticket so I could cancel without any penalty. I'd never had to do it before nor since. I have been asked for a return to the US date and just make one up. When pushed further, I explain I'm driving back instead of flying. So far, that seems to satisfy them. Stay safe! Val Jones

After conducting interviews in the last 2 weeks for a friend in search of a care-taker, I am happy to share the information of two excellent candidates that did not get the job. We were fortunate to have interviewed many top-notch people for this position. Both seemed enthusiastic and eager to work. Antonio Villafan, 44 years old, has many certificates and references. 333-240-7745 Alex (Alejandro) Mercado Gamez, 45 years old, also with many recommendations and experience. 333-901-6912 I wish you luck in your search and hope you find the right person for your needs. Cheers! Val Jones

I checked with my Agent at GNP Health Insurance and he confirmed that my policy DOES cover COVID-19 treatment(s). He also texted me yesterday to tell me the San Antonio Hospital now accepts my GNP Health Insurance. Stay safe, everyone. Val

No Masks In Businesses, Disheartening
thevalerieleigh replied to moonhill's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
Seems we can only control our own actions and behaviors. I "double bag" it when I go out for essential errands. I wear my face mask AND face shield, wash my hands, sanitize when I return to my car, spray my shoes with disinfectant, etc. I'm doing everything I possibly can to avoid this dreadful and potentially deadly virus. While it deeply saddens me to put my life on hold, I would like to hang onto whatever life I have left and want to ensure I don't unwittingly pass on this virus to someone with an immune system that cannot provide safety and life for themselves and others. Although I'm from GA, I was brought up to be polite, considerate, caring, compassionate and to consider the needs of others, not just my own needs and desires. Salud, Val Jones -
After losing both parents, one grandmother, one mother in law and countless friends to lung cancer as a result of cigarette smoking, I'm grateful for this new legislation. I grew up in a household my first 17 years with two parents who were heavy smokers. As a result, I have chronic bronchitis. If smokers could participate in their addiction without affecting others, I'd be all for it. Consenting adults are free to make their own choices. I take exception when their addiction affects my health and disrupts my ability to enjoy life outdoors without the stench and pervasive smoke from their cancerous cigarettes. Perhaps they could create some type of "head bubble" where the smoke remained inside their sphere and didn't affect others. One can hope. Salud! Val
