  1. Although I have only met this magnificent lady a couple of times, I have been delighted by her beautiful Soprano voice. I remember seeing and listening to her in several BRAVO! Theatre performances a few years ago. I'm so sorry to read her health is deteriorating but understand that family would like her nearby. Sending Millicent off with great wishes for safe travel and the opportunity to enjoy time with her family in Canada. She and her talent will be missed, lakeside. Cheers! Val Jones
  2. Thanks for letting us know. While I didn't have the pleasure of meeting this lady, it's always sad to lose a loved one and friend. Sending condolences to her friends and family. So sorry for the loss. Val Jones
  3. Thanks, went to Jitomate at 1 to reserve prime rib for later. It was WONDERFUL! Cheers! Val
  4. Hoping to get some guidance from those "in-the-know"... Looking for a celebratory prime rib dinner tomorrow/Saturday and recall that Bruno's, Arileo and Jitomate have served prime rib in the past. Can anyone provide information if these (or other restaurants) may have prime rib available for Saturday around 5:30-6 pm? As always, many thanks! Val Jones
  5. We love Yves and his restaurant. Pretty much every Monday, we arrive about 3-3:30 to enjoy T-Bone and Ribeye steaks in the lovely garden setting. The waiters are always friendly and attentive, the food is consistently delicious and when Yves is there, he makes a point to visit each table, talk with patrons and ask about food and chat. For us, the fact that he is kind to animals and helps rescues find good homes, keeps those who can't find good homes is a bonus reason for supporting his restaurant. We find it charming when one of the burros serenades us with a bray or two. I agree that people who find animals unacceptable in a restaurant should avoid Yves. There are plenty of choices and everyone can live and let live. Viva Mexico! Val
  6. WOW! Great photos, many thanks for sharing them. Fun was had by all participants and soon we'll learn how much was raised for Cruz Roja. Many thank to all who assisted, participated, donated, etc. Zombie Val
  7. I would discourage walking up to the Chapel alone for the reasons listed above. Firstly, if you should fall or have a health problem, it's best to have someone to help out. Secondly, I was assaulted near the Chapel on a Saturday afternoon around 2 pm when I was alone. We had quite a fight and fortunately my screams brought 3 men to my aid. The perpetrator was not caught and sadly, he did succeed in sexually assaulting a young girl a couple of weeks later at the waterfalls on the mountain. Pappysmarket did the right thing when she got the "sixth sense", turned around and went back down the hill. Better to be safe than sorry. I knew from the moment the young man approached me what his intent was and that it was going to be a battle of wills. I was lucky to escape with just bruises and scrapes. Take care, Val Jones
  8. Friendly reminder for those who wish to see the Ajijic Horde of Zombies march and dance today as we participate in the Annual "Thrill the World" Event. The Zombies will leave the Ajijic Cultural Center at 4 pm and parade down Colon and the Ajijic Malecon tossing candy and posing for photos. We'll perform on the basketball court at exactly 5:00 pm C.S.T. so our Event qualifies for participation in the worldwide Flashmob. It only lasts 6 minutes, so don't arrive late, LOL. Afterwards, we'll parade to Seis Esquinas and perform "Thriller" again for the locals there. Someone has kindly donated ice cream and water for the event at Seis Esquinas. Many thanks to this wonderful anonymous donor. We'll return to the Ajijic Malecon to enjoy a delicious specially catered meal by Hector and Manix Restaurant. I believe one can purchase tickets at "the door". There will be dinner and dancing available. All profits go to Cruz Roja to support their efforts to improve the crumbling infrastructure of the building in Chapala. It's my understanding that the building is sinking. Please support your favorite Zombie(s) by making a donation with them or drop some pesos into the buckets volunteers will have at the Event. All support is greatly appreciated. ROCK ON! Zombie Val

  10. Opiere (used to be E-Sun) has been wonderful for us! Val Jones
  11. Hi Alpha 1, I will ask when I go back next week for Stem Cell treatment. Dr. Alex told me the Laboratory in CA, I think he said it was in LA but I didn't take note of the name. Yes, Dr. Varela, gave a fantastic presentation on how to stave off early onset Dementia and Alzheimer's and included wonderful ways to enjoy the last third of our lives. He included studies and this type of activity (racquet sports) was definitely one that helps tremendously. I know many enjoy Pickleball here as well. I, naturally, enjoy all forms of dance. Tap dance in particular has been sited in several studies as being helpful as well. He also said Chia seeds have more Omega than salmon so I just chugged down my 1/2 teaspoon of Chia with water. It will become part of my daily routine. I'll do pretty much anything to avoid getting Dementia. Salud! Val
  12. OK, had my appointment yesterday with Dr. Alex. The CBD oil they sell and recommend is made in the U.S. and imported here to Mexico. I purchased it and will try it this evening. His suggestion for me (for deeper sleep) is to take 5 drops sublingual about an hour before I normally go to bed. The cost was $800 pesos for the bottle. Cheers! Val
  13. I will find out. Both Dra. Justina and Dr. Alex spoke about making sure the CBD Oil came from a Lab with consistency and quality so when I'm there today and buy a bottle, I'll ask for more details. Cheers! Val Jones
  14. I plan to buy some from Dra. Justina, west Ajijic. Recently she and Dr. Alex did a wonderfully informative presentation at our weekly "Lighten Up" meeting at La Bodega. Their topic(s) were mainly current use in Mexico of Stem Cell treatment(s), use of Growth Hormones, Regenerative Medicine and CBD Oil. I learned so much during their presentation and hope I still have enough cartilage in my left hip to regenerate more in an effort to avoid replacement in the next 3-5 years. Although Dr. Mungia Papachoris in GDL was EXPERT with my right hip replacement almost 2 years ago, it would be great if I could avoid it in my left. I have an appointment to meet with Dr. Alex Molina, Sports Medicine specialist, tomorrow morning to look at the degree of cartilage loss (based on my current X-ray) to determine if Stem Cell is a reasonable option. Based upon what I learned when both doctors spoke, it seems the CBD oil must come from a reputable laboratory with 90% CBD and 10% THC. When there for my appointment tomorrow, I intend to buy a bottle of drops to try out for sleep. Fortunately, I do not have pain but understand from those who do that these drops have been life-changing. Both doctors stressed that it's important to start with minimal drops (sublingual) when in bed ready to sleep until one understands how their own body will react to the medication. The following week, we had a wonderful speaker, Dr. Varela (Neurosurgeon/Neuro-oncologist) did a very informative presentation on how to stave off Dementia and early onset of Alzheimer's. One of the recommendations centered around quality 7-8 hours of sleep. That's why I'd be interested in the CBD oil - for uninterrupted sleep. Seems quality, uninterrupted sleep allows the brain time to flush out toxins and I'm sure I have introduced significant toxins throughout the day, LOL! Anyway, my .02 worth. Use, if helpful and discard if not. Cheers! Val
  15. Yep, exact same issue for me the last few months. At first I thought my new iPhone was having issues but went into TelCel and it's on their end. No real explanation but I laugh now when it takes up to 3 attempts to get through. Third time's the charm, LOL! My friend(s) hear me fine but I just have silence. Frustrating but persistence pays off. Hoping whatever the problem is will be sorted soon, though. Cheers! Val
  16. We went to their new location about 3 weeks ago. While beautiful, we weren't impressed. Lovely atmosphere but the food was just, OK. We won't go back. Like others, we thought their food in their previous location was top notch so perhaps the Chef has changed as well? For a special occasion, maybe consider Garufa on Colon. Went there last week for the first time and thought it was elegant, attentive service and delicious meal. Cheers! Val
  17. Thanks for the clarification. I knew the driver must have on his/her seatbelt but was unaware that all passengers were legally required to wear theirs. As the main driver in our family, I do buckle up but have found it difficult to get some passengers to do the same. I'll explain that it is they who will pay the fine if I am pulled over due to their refusal to buckle up. I am curious how they handle the large numbers of individuals packed into the back of pick up trucks who are not buckled in. Clearly the idea of wearing a seatbelt is a safety issue. I often watch with great concern for the large numbers of family members and/or workers who are being slung to and fro by the driver of the pick up and worry that one or all will be tossed out. Val
  18. Thanks for the update. Can someone clarify if it's just the driver who must be buckled up or ALL passengers? Thanks, Val
  19. As a dancer/choreographer who has danced and performed to many types of music, creations from various artists and choreographers, I have chosen to enjoy the art, joy and my personal passion for dance. It certainly isn't for me to decide for any other individual if they wish to dance to a particular song or artist performing the song/music. I can and will decide solely for myself and am responsible solely for my own actions. I liken it to one's beliefs in other social and political issues. If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one. If you don't believe in a same-gender lifestyle, don't have one, if you don't believe in drinking alcohol, don't drink and the list goes on. I think I've made the point. I appreciate everyone has opinions and beliefs and will act accordingly. It remains my intent to publicize events and classes that include dance, Theatre, Improv, etc. Should people wish to attend, support and enjoy is absolutely their decision. Should others prefer to avoid this type of activity, I encourage you to choose a different activity on a given day. Most of us are retired and enjoying our golden years. I encourage everyone to do what makes you happy. Cheers! Val Jones
  20. Thanks to those who joined us for the "Thrill the World" kick-off event yesterday. I'm taking this quote directly from the website. "We want to bring dance to people all over the world. We want to remind everyone that before you believed you couldn’t (dance) you did. We want to connect the world, in fun, celebration and dance. And to show that it CAN be done. It’s not impossible. It just hasn’t been done yet. We think “Thriller” is the best way to reach the most number of people. As a bonus, on Halloween night parties, you’ll get to feel like a superstar in a movie when suddenly everyone erupts in choreographed dance! In addition to sharing the joy of dance, the celebration of community and the passion for living, we created Thrill The World so that each event could be used to raise money for a local charity." In our case, Cruz Roja is the recipient of funds raised. "Giving continues past just the steps of the dance, past the hands of Thrill The World to you, the participants. We want you to experience the gift of giving. And lastly, our hope is that by witnessing and/or being a part of Thrill The World, you will see for yourself that any dream, vision, idea, passion you have CAN be realized. Who would’ve thought we could inspire the world to dance with us? At the same time! Nothing is impossible. Impossible just means it hasn’t been done yet. Do the impossible!" While I understand some individuals take issue with allegations made against the late Michael Jackson, I also understand this event is about bringing the community together, having fun, enjoying exercise, meeting new people and raising funds for Cruz Roja. Personally, my feelings about the allegations against Michael Jackson are completely separate from the fantastic choreography by Michael Peters and the great music and joy I have dancing to "Thriller". For those who wish to join the Ajijic Zombie Horde, I encourage you to do so. For those who don't, I understand. Rehearsals will continue at the Ajijic Cultural Center each Saturday 1:30-3:30 and Wednesday from 5:30-7:30. You can also learn the choreography online at the official website: thrilltheworld.com Cheers and ROCK ON! Val Jones

  24. The place is called ERGED. He specializes in oxygen and other gases. He's created a nozzle so he can fill my Soda Stream tanks. The address is: Bellota #1795, Local 27, Guadalajara. He's part of the Mercado de los Abastos. His name is Eduardo Martinez and his numbers are: 333-563-4274 & 332-166-6370. He charges $100 pesos to refill your tank. I posted this a while back but received two private messages for the information so apparently some people missed it. Cheers! Val
  25. Hi Eric,  the Improv. Workshops will be held at BRAVO! Theatre's new location in Riberas del Pilar.  It's on the mountain side, just west of S&S Auto.  There's a large sign/lona advertising "BRAVO!" Theatre.  The address is  441 Hidalgo, near "Have Hammers".

Hope you go and have fun.

    Enjoy,

    Val  :)
