They are dead because (1)they had underlying health problems and (2)the NY health care system was also not prepared. Mostly #1, but #2 applies also. You cannot violate peoples rights UNLESS you declare "martial law" which no one has done. (same applies in Mexico) So, they will get their pants sued off very soon. The Constitution is the LAW of the US. You violate it and impinge on peoples rights, you pay the fiddler. Mostly is absolutely correct, as he mostly is. The purpose of "stay at home" was to allow states and cities that were ill prepared (hello NY, NJ, Michigan, Mexico, etc. ) a chance to try and catch up from lack of preparedness and keep the hospitalizations down until those places could get caught up and prepare. Many places are ready now to handle it and more about treatment is known now. (Mexico, time will tell) The virus was never going to be killed by "stay at home", and when things open up, will continue to spread and people will die, as they do in every pandemic. It will be slowed by a vaccine, but that could be 10 months, or years away. It will never die out, just like the regular flu. but will mutate every year. People want to return to their lives and are willing to take the risk that only about 2% will lose their lives, mostly those with other health conditions. In my case, I am Immune Compromised for the last 4 years, Diabetic, obese (because of meds), Asthma, High blood pressure. And, 77 years young ! Got them all. So, I am as careful as I can be. I do not expect the World to stop and people to give up their lives to protect me. They have a right to their lives and so do their families, as they choose, not as I choose for them. We have lives a long time, those of us my age, and should have enough common sense to know how best to take care of ourselves by now. There will always be some risk in life, and we have accepted it until now. We have lived through a Lot in our lifetime, and we will make it through this, too !!

I think the basic question is, are you very healthy, with NO underlying problems. That would be my first consideration. If not, I would not think about it any further. Then, what would you do if you got the virus during your travels? Would wherever you are be able to handle it? Lots to consider.

We keep hearing that from lots of different places, but the US "Task Force" never has come out and said that. Why? Neither does Mexico. One would think if that were the actual case so far, that would be something worth informing the Public about loud and clear. Failure to do that would be criminal.

Thanks for more confirmation. I think most people here have known about that for some time. States seem to get more Federal money for help as the CV deaths mount. SMART of them, guess sometime there will be a lot of fraud investigations, or not. Last I heard was that hospitals get an extra 20% for dealing with CV patients.

New cases mean nothing. Death is the concern, and Texas is a LONG way from the 11,000 deaths from The Flu in 2018-2019. There was no alarm about that much loss of life to keep the economy up and running, so I would think that same number (or more) would be acceptable this go around. We are 4 months in on this and the Flu was for a total time of 8 months. Many hospitals in Texas basically shut down in anticipation of many serious cases from this virus and people gave up appointments of other health concerns and procedures. Those numbers of serious cases never manifested themselves.Now, some of those people need to have those procedures, or they might become one of those dead stats. Texas was/is ready and can handle the situation. so now they are getting back to opening up the state. Whether you agree with that , makes no difference. Texas was settled by people who faced danger and death most days of their lives and fought for and won their independence. Texans are strong, not weak. Weak people can stay home. No one will be forced to get out of their comfort zone.

Family there been fishing as normal, going to grocery, Home Depot, Walmart, Sam's, Costco, out to buy food to go at Whataburger, Sonic, most local restaurants. All convenience stores open. Took several trips to other towns to see the flowers in bloom. Stopped at convenience store and bought food in those towns. BTW, lot more than 10 people allowed in Home Depot, Walmart, and Sam's there. Sure schools are closed, no restrictions as to stay home or wear masks.If you read the Governor's Order, you will see that he does not reference any type of "lockdown". The "thrill" headline is the only place that is mentioned. I don't call that a "lock down". But, YMMD. Don't believe all news, some is "fake" and "thrill seeking". Stay safe.

Interesting stat: As of today, 732 have died in Texas from the virus. During the 2018-2019 Flu Season, over 11, 000 Texans died from the flu. Perspective is very important. Texas was not and is not a "lock down" state.

This does not state anything about "young and healthy". Can't find anything about what % had underlying health problems, which was the vast majority of deaths in NY. From everything that I have read, underlying problems seems to the the major factor. Got anything to the contrary?

I can assure you that "ignore" is a wonderful choice. I really love it when I post and see 4-5 of the "gang" post immediately after it, but they don't even realize they are "pissiin' in the wind". Always makes me laugh. Laughter is good for the soul, no?

I find it quite interesting that at the beginning of this "thingy" many were hollering that the real "infection rate" could be just unbelievably high, and deaths would be in the millions in each country. This was what stroked the "fear". Now, as reports come out seemingly to support their "fears" about the infection rate, (but not the death rate), they are trying to discredit those reports, which support their original speculation. Wonder why??? Wonder what role more infections but less deaths will do to the "fear" angle? Interesting.

Florida has flattened the curve drastically because they attacked taking care of the most vulnerable in their State, the elderly and those in nursing homes. That strategy paid off big time for them. It appears more and more that the virus has infected many times more than have been reported, making its death rate perhaps dependent on high risk factors. Young (and older) people without other health concerns seem to be riding this out without significant problem. Our attention needs to be on those high risk, and let others go about their "normal" lives.

Unless AMLO declares Martial Law, no state governor can suspend any civil rights of anyone. They can, however, demand that you wear a mask, and can limit crowds, enforce social distancing, similar orders. Pretty much the same NOB, except each governor can declare Martial Law, IF, that is included in the Constitution of that State. If not, they cannot do it. Only then can they restrict personal freedoms. The President(NOB) can also do this, but his ability to enforce in all states would be unmanageable. Easier to enforce in a community or maybe one state.

If you check the border crossing site, that should give you the answer. ( I would think you would need a good reason to enter at this time and not sooner).
