My mandolin slicer. I bought one at the everything store in Ajijic, and I use it almost every day!

A lot of discussion of whether I knew the north from the south side of the lake (after 12 years here, I certainly hope so!) but still no information about where the fire actually is/was? Does ANYONE know for sure?
The fires started on the north side of the mountain range above the eastern end of Ajijic. Then it spread to the south-facing side of those mountains. It's been mostly contained to the area between Chula Vista Norte and Ajijic Centro. I haven't heard any choppers for the last 18 hours or so, so I'm hoping they have it mostly out now.

Someone mentioned on a Facebook group that there was also a fire in an empty lot in Cielo Vista today!

"Expecting folks to just sit at home and wait days/weeks for their installers to show.... even in Mexico.... is a stretch and surely not the sign of an organized 'office'. "
RickS, every telecom company I've ever dealt with, here and in Canada, operates the same way. They tell you they will be there between 8 am and 5 pm on a particular day, and if you're very lucky, they might show up that day at 5:30 pm. Sometimes they don't show up at all. And as far as repairs or tech service, I've heard many horror stories about Telmex. Every new company is bound to have some problems here and there. For the most part, I've heard that Ilox subscribers are generally happy with their service and speed.

That's the first time I've heard of anyone actually knowing what channels are available in English.
When I originally signed up for the service, the woman in the office circled the channels that were supposed to be in English on the sheet that shows all of the channels available.

I've been hooked up for about a month on the TV/internet package. Unfortunately, they promised eight English channels and I'm not getting any. Set up two different appointments for the tech guy to come out, but both times he was a no show.
I'd like to know if others that have been hooked up are receiving any English channels. TIA

My iPad works with my Ilox hookup. Like RV said, you have to go to your settings on the iPad or phone, click on WiFi, then click on your Ilox network and enter your password.

There's a shop inside Casa Colon, the concept store that also houses Dharma, the restaurant. They sell copper plates, bowls, sinks, etc. It's on the northeast corner of Colon and Zaragoza in Ajijic. Closed on Tuesdays.

Great idea! Make them just as visible as the 'No Smoking' signs!

In a Fraccionamiento, the Board cannot change the Bylaws without a vote of the residents at an AGM or an SGM, legally.
ibarra, you should ask the homeowners in El Dorado about how bylaws need a vote of the residents to be changed 'legally'. They'll tell you the horror story of their fight for the last 8 or 9 years!

gringohombre, I was in the Ilox office, and the woman there told me that there were only about 9 or 10 channels in English. The rest are in Spanish with English subtitles.

When we lose a function we're used to, such as hearing, we can't help but be pissed at Mother Nature and whatever else was the cause. However, at this point, we can either be fools or we can DEAL WITH IT!
My own moment of truth came years ago when I was teaching a class and realized that I had very little idea what those ladies with higher pitched voices were saying. That was about the time I remembered that my dad was stone deaf before the age of 70. Bad luck for me. However, I'm in the school of thought that says "DEAL WITH IT" and since then, I've worn hearing aids. They are expensive and a PITA to get used to, but do you want to have a life or don't you? If false pride and the notion that it "ages" you are getting in the way......that's just dumb. What "ages" us is attitude, not our appliances.
There are many brands made in the U.S.A. to choose from which are carried by Costco and by our local audiologist at LCS. I like going to Polo at LCS since he can usually fix any problems on the spot....and he's here.
It's not a matter of 'false pride' or the notion that it 'ages' you for many people like myself. It's a matter of not being able to afford decent hearing aids, plain and simple. If I could find a hearing aid that I could afford, and it actually worked, I'd be wearing it with pride!

Hmmmm, several Fox channels, but no CBS, ABC or NBC?

Add friends to that list of those irritated. While I am sympathetic to those with hearing loss I do not understand why those who need hearing aids don't get them or why those who have them don't wear them. If you know you have a hearing loss and can improve it (and afford to do so,) why wouldn't you? And if you have hearing aids, why would you choose to not wear them in a social situation like having lunch with a friend or going to a concert? To me it makes no sense and could even be interpreted as rude, but maybe I'm not understanding something about the use of hearing aids.
Sorry to go off topic a little but the above is based on several personal situations I have experienced and am trying to understand.
Did you ever stop to think that some of us who need hearing aids can't afford to get them? I'd love to be able to hear conversations clearly!

What holds the overdenture in place while you are chewing food? Wouldn't it be popping out all the time?

At 120 pesos for a glass of wine I think they may not do so well. They should have done more market research. This is a retirement community not Guad.
120 pesos for a glass of wine? No thanks! Now I know why it's always empty when I walk past it.

Is Dharma restaurant open, what are the hours. Any reviews
It's been open for about a week now. I haven't tried it yet, but whatever they're cooking smelled very good as I walk past the place. Sorry that I can't help you with more info at this time.

I like the Chicken Pad Thai at Tepetate because instead of using peanut sauce, they use tamarind sauce. Delicious! And a huge serving. I can get three meals out of one order!
-
I prefer the food at Tepatate Thai. Love their Chicken Pad Thai and their crispy vegetable rolls, especially!

No, he did not say that, write that, or imply that. 🙄
The way that I read his last paragraph in the original post made it sound like that......"It is a good idea to make sure that when you use any of the aforementioned forms that you use the new ones as using the old ones may cause a delay or rejection when you do any business with the National Immigration Institute or INAMI. It is unknown when immigration / airports / border crossings will have the new forms available as well as if there will be any grace period for use of old forms"
I just wanted to make sure that I had the correct information from Spencer himself. I hope that's alright with you RVGRINGO.

So Spencer, are you saying that all of us that temporal or permanente visas need to get new cards now? And if so, is there going to be a charge for that?

I think Chillin and dennis are talking about Carniceria De La Torre. They are located on the corner of Los Maestros and Isla del Presidio in Chapala. This is on the north side of Soriana's parking lot.
And you wonder why some people get confused. This thread is supposed to be about the Smoke House restaurant, not a carniceria! If you want to have a discussion on cuts and price of meat, start a new thread!

Yes, that's correct, johanson. I get the recorded message, but have never been charged a single peso. I've had this plan for about two years now.
Confusion over June date of Garden Club
in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
Posted
I was told two different things. One person told me they were visiting a garden out in La Cristina on June 3. Another person told me they usually meet on the third Wednesday of each month. Can someone confirm the exact date in June, please?
