Let them go over 9.23%  Really???  You say you give them a raise every year, maybe it'd be better to offset their next raise against the 9.23% IMSS payment and show them how/why that happened.  Perhaps they'd rather have their current jobs at current pay + health insurance + retirement, rather than no job at all??  At least give them that option.

And you do realize you will have to pay them their finiquito if you let them go?

Yes, really!!!!! Geez, just because we don't agree with your choice doesn't mean ours isn't just as valid. Yes, we always give a pay raise and yes, we know that we have to pay a finquito AND WILL DO SO. We employed them under one set of rules and the rules have changed on us. We choose not to continue under this new rule.  Don't assume the worst of people, or that they're ignorant of the employment laws, just because they choose to do something other than you. We simply don't want to get bogged down in what could be a lot of legal red tape. Hopefully, not, but I don't have a lot of faith in any government implementing a rule with minimal pain.

  2. When it comes into effect, we will be letting go of our maid and gardener. Do we want to? No. Will we? Yes. Sorry, but we treat them both very well, always give raises at the beginning of the year, give them more than the legal requirements for the Aguinaldo, plus a nice basket, days off with pay, etc. We've done our end, but this is just more than we want to take on. Anyone have any idea when it's planned/scheduled to go into effect?

My cleaning lady has about 6 clients.  So, should it be between the 6 of us to contribute?

What a nightmare! So, it still appears to me that many of these folks are going to lose their jobs. For us, it's not worth the increase, plus the added headache of having to make sure that the money is not pocketed, that we receive proof, etc, etc. I'd rather clean myself than to dive into this mess. I think the intention is good, but this isn't going to go well...

    Enjoy your meal.

Looks like our drain looks like after hubby has had his shower. He sheds, too. Guess I should ban him?

  6. or my 2 cents.....I have visited friends many times in  Chapala Haciendas and Brisa ...I like the "rural" atmosphere ....... Many are satisfied but with "Buts"...All fracs etc have "Buts"....the problem comes if those issues will be a "problem" to you.

You show me one single location where there aren't some "buts." Yes, many are satisfied and many are not. This is true of wherever you go lakeside. It doesn't matter if you're living in the barrio or the top foo-foo spots, some folks will be unhappy. Some of the problems are real and some are just because...

A recommendation........go out to the lot early and late in the evening , linger awhile...if you have a warm and good feeling about , go for it.

    Excellent idea!

My observations,....... too many dogs and frankly some homes are "mini Kennels". Also I would check with the office on how many delinquent  HOA owners are there . If there is a high percentage...... then the burden falls on the current owners to support the infrastructure.....Like many older Fraccs the development was too ambitious, the streets too wide and require lots of maintenance etc...Also security will always be problematic because the outside perimeter is open...much like many of the other fraccs in the area....the robbers do not come through the front gates...(well some do!!)

While there are some "mini kennels," including our local wildlife protection folks (who do not cause problems ftr), this is not nearly the problem it once was and is definitely not the problem it is in many communities. Noise is being taken seriously. While parties do go on at night (weekends, big holidays), they don't go balls-to-the-wall all night long and are usually over at a reasonable hour. Most neighbors are considerate and if their dogs are going batty, they quiet them down. Like any neighborhood, the dogs are going to bark when strangers walk by, etc, etc.

I'm not saying that Chapala Haciendas is perfect, but it's a nice neighborhood that gives you a lot of bang for your buck. If you do your homework, you could have a very nice house at a very fair price. It's not for everyone, but no place is.

Take into consideration the other OP comments and take the appropriate decision ...good luck navigating through the real estate  minefield called Lakeside

    Amen to that!

  7. Oh, lord, here we go again. Check the area. Talk to the neighbors. No, the rules aren't restrictive; most are common sense. The majority of us who live here like it. This area is really hopping with a lot of construction and "gentrification." It's not a gated community, but that's never been a guarantee of protection. Use common sense and take precautions like you would anywhere. The water is supplied by the fracc's own well. We sometimes have a problem with a leak that needs to be fixed, but our water supply is pretty consistent. Willie mentioned land stability and he's absolutely correct. While some homes, like ours, were built on solid lava rock, others were built on the equivalent of shifting sands. Like anywhere, quality land in one spot doesn't guarantee the same for another. GET A HOME INSPECTION regardless of where you choose. No, it's not perfect, but it's nice to be away from the traffic and noise of Chapala and Ajijic.

It isn't Wed thru Sat,   It is Wednesday and Saturday.  She is very busy so expect to wait a month or more for appointment unless it is an emergency.

But she is soooooo worth the wait (sorry, had to add this because I'm still such a happy camper). :P

Should have mentioned that it's Wed. and Saturday because those are the days she does her follow-ups and new appointments from lakeside (surgery is in Guad on Tues. and Fri).

  9. First, thanks all for the very kind comments. To be honest, I thought I'd go in there and come out seeing okay...not perfect, but at least a bit better. Holy sh*t! Hubby had to listen to me blabber for several days about just how sharp and clear I could see the leaves in trees and read without the fuzzy bits (that's the technical term, of course ;p ). I don't want to set anyone up because each person is different, but there really and truly is a reason why so many of Dra. Claudia's patients come out seeing her praises. She's really that good.

Almost-edit:  I was going to correct my line of "seeing her praises" to what it should have been, "singing her praises" and then realized that it was too appropriate to mess with!

  10. I've worn contacts for nearly 44 years and still had problems. If I were to attempt to wear glasses, they would be thicker than Coke bottles, and about as attractive. Over the years, I wanted the various latest and greatest procedures that came out (RK, lasik, etc), but was told that it couldn't be done because of thin cornea, super-strong prescription, etc, etc. I once asked what my actual prescription was (20/40? 20/100? ??) and was told when eyes are as bad as mine, they don't measure!  Then, hubby had cataract surgery w/Dra. Claudia at the beginning of April, choosing the trifocal lenses. I joked that he was the poster child for the procedure because it went so well. When he told me that he could see well enough to drive, I actually didn't believe him because it'd just been a few days. Still, I made an appointment with the doctor because I had the start of cataracts and I just couldn't take the major headaches and vision hassles anymore. Originally, I was scheduled for 22 May, but the retina specialist canceled the surgery because I had lattice degeneration and holes in the retina, thin retinal walls, and -- my favorite -- large eyeballs (high myopics tend to have it and I was -8.5 and -8.0 with astigmatism). I had the option of having argon laser treatment to strengthen the retinas. No, it didn't "fix" them, but the scar tissue would act like a weld around a weak area. I chose to have it done (not fun) because anything that would help salvage my sight was worth it to me. The surgery was scheduled for four weeks later.

My surgery was last Friday. On Saturday, I had my first follow-up. To my great and utter amazement, my vision is now 100%. I raced through both the regular letter eye charts and the reading chart, able to read every single line. Before, things would get fuzzy after a few lines. Everything was sharp and clear.  Like hubby, I chose the Zeiss trifocal iols, including a toric for astigmatism, and it was the best investment I've ever made. I am completely glasses-free. While it's still early days and I realize that things can happen, I have complete confidence in Dra. Claudia. Since there's almost nothing more boring than someone describing their surgery, I'll just say everything went super-smoothly and it was over before I had a chance to get scared. Everyone was professional, friendly and helpful.

A BIG thank you to Dra. Claudia and Dr. Silva (retina specialist) for taking the time and precautions needed for crappy eyes like mine. They didn't operate until my eyes were in the best shape that they could be and for that I'll be forever grateful.

I want to be delicate here...are they a mixed race couple? If yes are they the same people that I started the thread about?

Yes and probably. I've never met them (thank goodness!) but if even half of the rumors are true...well, wow. Just wow.

My comment will make it more expensive? I would think that the market makes the rules and if all the hospitals that are being planned to open do actually open there will be competition unless there is collusion. I read a post on one board from a local doctor who asked if he should by an Audi A7. Apparently business must be very good at the prices you speak of. I cant afford an audi A7. I do compare things with my own country just as you did when you first arrived. I guess its a habit to think in terms of dollars since i Have been dealing with that form of currency for 55 years. I promise I will never do it again. Scouts honor. Wouldn't want my post to raise prices for all Lakeside residents. I didn't know all the lakeside doctors read these posts. If they are all I can say to them is that your prices for medical services are too high. Hope that helps.

Don't worry about the general comments. You're always going to have naysayers, regardless of the topic. It's normal to compare prices to the US since that's your home country. Eventually, you'll find a balance. Shop around, check out the various docs and go where you're comfortable. You'll see high end for here (specialists out of Guad, usually) and low end and everything in between. When we need routine care, we go to Ajijic Clinic (Clinica Ajijic). We absolutely love Dr. Rodriguez. His fees are reasonable, the care is excellent, and he's very, very patient-oriented. For anything more specific (cardio, ortho, etc), we're really lucky in that we have access to all sorts of specialists here. If one isn't available, Guad isn't that far away.

  13. BEST DECISION EVER! We had solar put in around 4-5 years ago by E-Sun and the savings was unbelievable. Our CFE bills went from around $4100/2 months to $46-150/mo. We had one small glitch in the beginning and it was immediately addressed. Regardless of who you use, you will not regret going solar. I'm ashamed (only slightly) to admit that I cackle each time we get our CFE bill.
