  1.  I just opened my back door and noticed that the outdoor concrete entrance was slightly wet and when I walked upside, I could feel a very light rain hitting my forehead.  I was shock, came here online and saw that I wasn't the only one experiencing this rain.  I hope we get a little more. The lake level sure could use a little to quite a bit of rain. I just hope we don't get too much.

May we all have a wet night, outdoors that is. Please check for any window or door that should be closed. I'm in upper Ajijic and just checked the Ajijic weather station webpage. They don't show any rain as of today.

    Have a good night

    Pete.

  2. be careful. Shaw is upgrading to better focused satellites with their signals focused on Canada. The old satellites' which used to reach Mexico are being replaced by these new satellites which do not reach Mexico. So, within a month or three, no more Shaw Direct signals will be teaching Mexico. Time to consider streaming over the internet.

  3. I got my latest Pfizer Covid shot and the latest flue shot, along with some shot for something called KPR or something like that, 10 days ago in Seattle and am feeling just great.  No, I didn't get Covid any time after a Covid shot, although I did catch it several years ago after flying from Guad to Seattle and being exposed to many passengers.

Who knows, maybe I was just lucky or maybe the quality of my shots was better. Who knows.

  4.

Remember that Shaw Direct has announced that we will be losing the last of their signals by about March. They have invested in lower powered and better focused satellites that still provide a strong signal to Canada but will not be losing energy letting signals leak as far south as Mexico.  one techy suggested, with a smile on his face, that we could probably still get the signal with a 30 foot satellite dish.

So I guess Shaw Direct will soon no longer be an option in Mexico.

  5. After leaving El Torito at about 10 AM or a few minutes later I headed West toward the Ajijic Pemex gas station for a refill. At the same time some twenty black police trucks raced by heading West. Soon thereafter I too tried to go West, but the traffic was blocked off by some of the Police trucks with lights blinking, on the Carretera, at about the point where Colon crosses the street, you know, near the intersection.

Wanting to get home, I turned north few blocks and worked my way past Colon and to the top of Juarez where I live. I have no idea what was happening. I just know that I cannot ever remember that many police vehicles heading past me with sirens screeching on the way to a perhaps crime scene in my life. When I got home, my gardener said that he heard what appeared to be numerous gunshots fired by perhaps one gun in what he thought might be lower Ajijic, near the square, a few minutes before he heard the many sirens from many vehicles passing by toward the general area of where he thought the gunshots might have been coming from.

  6. I'm in upper Ajijic at the top of Juarez Street. I have a thermometer on a covered porch on the second floor about 10 feet from the wall of my unheated house. As of 16:15 it reads 59.9F

It has a small battery in it and sends a signal showing the temperature to the inside receiver, which displays the temperature once every minute.

  7. Don't forget that soon the older satellites that Shaw Direct have been using will be taken out of service and replaced with new Satellites that can better focus their signals on Canada, therefore requiring less power to run them and still give good coverage to Canada. The last time I checked my 600 series receivers no longer picks up anything from up north. And only my 800 series receiver picked up a few channels from Canada. And none not even CNN from the US were available.

I have converted to streaming the channels that I want to watch from up north via the internet.  It's taking a while to get used to but soon I will be totally satisfied with streaming my TV programs, be they from Germany, the US or Canada.  Apparently, TV stations from most any country are available via streaming.

  8. Three or four weeks ago a Telmex repair man was at the house and suggested I go to fiber as there is no cost involved and my speed would improve. I was told they would be able to do it in a week or so. And like I said above, we are going on four weeks and still no word.

No problem. When it happens, it happens.  I already have pretty good speed for copper. I'm usually getting a download speed of 35 to 50 Mb/sec and an upload speed right around 1.6 on some days and between 8 and 10 on other days.

Yes, I do find it weird that my upload speed varies by so much.
