You are in México, the possibilities are endless.  México has so many truly beautiful and interesting destinations within a 6 or 7 hour bus ride.  México is more beautiful in the summer because it is so green.  If its your first time traveling I would recommend Guanajuato either before or after the Cervantino festival, if its your first time there, and you want to see the city and not so much the festival, when it is not innundated with billions of people.  Morelia and Pátzcuaro are easy seconds.  Zacatecas is a true gem of a place but bring your sweaters.  Few tourists ever go there but it is up there with Guanajuato for gorgeous colonial cities in my opinion.  Querétaro is also a wonderful city to explore and full of history.  Each city that I have mentioned will look and feel totally unique and different from each other.  Have fun traveling.

My father has Blue Cross Blue Sheild, a couple of years ago he needed a hernia surgery and after they noticed he required a pace maker.  It was preaproved by BC/BS.  The surgery was done at the Mexico-Americano hospital in Guadalajara.  When it was time to pay, it was kind of an ordeal.  BC/BS didn't want to pay, they pretended like they weren't notified prior, which was a lie,  but after a few phone calls they eventually paid for all of it.  Insurance companies are such crooks!

There are two smoke shops in Chapala, both on Hidalgo.  The one next to El Árbol del Café has them.  And the other one across the street, called the Smokehouse or something similar, might but its new and I haven't been there yet.  The store in the Chapala plaza next to the Cucumber restaurant (the one with the ugly green trolls out front) usually has e-cigs.

When I lived in the US, I always bought my contacts from 1 800 Contacts.  But to buy contacts from there or anywhere in the US you need a current eye prescription.  There is a company in the UK that regularly ships contacts to customers in the US without the need for a prescription.  It is Vision Direct.  Has anybody tried to order contacts from them to be sent to Mexico? They ship them to the States.  Or where is the best place here to get contacts?  Thanks.

Gixellia, to just be fair and honest.  The North shore of Lake Chapala is rapidly becoming crowed and over populated just because gringos find the area attractive or because both gringos and Mexicanos find the area attractive, plus people from all over the world?  Honestly, los tapatíos are buying nice houses all over the area here, like crazy.  I live in Chapala, which is the most famous town on the lake and most of the people moving here are Mexicans. Very few gringos live here.  I'm just trying to put things in a more balanced perspective.  And if the South shore is slowly being built up, it's not the gringos doing it, since only a small handfull even live there.

Do you live in one the towns, does the chatarra truck pass by your house?  They are the ones that go around and buy old appliances and scrap metal and stuff.  Maybe, someone on here will have their number.

Could they be burning wires they have collected to extract the copper to sell as an extra income?

I´m not sure that the Purépecha were spelling words a long time ago, and I´m not sure that it would be hard for them to pronounce.  But for us extranjeros o foresteros, it most definitely is.  Wow!  What a name!  Interesting post, Slainte! 😅

Hmmm, you say 3 or 4 days and not in the heat.  I first thought of Mazamitla or Tapala, but you could see those places in a day.  Why not head over to Pátzcuaro, much higher elevation than Chapala, it should be nice and cool there, and it would take 3 or 4 days to see everything there.  You will have several places to visit to see archaeological ruins full of pyramids (several locations along the lake), the city of Pátzcuaro is worth at least two days minimum to see it all.  Then you have all the cool little pueblitos along the lake to explore, with each specializing in a different and unique handicraft.  A two hour trip west ward is the city of Uruápan, that is the avocado capital of the world and they have the most cool and gorgeous tropical rain forest park, full of awesome man made waterfalls, right in the heart of the city.  In fact its the largest tropical rain forest type park inside any city in México.  A very cool and unique destination in my opinion.  And if you need more colonial stimulation than Pátzcuaro, which I doubt it, since Pátzcuaro is equally beautiful, but there is always Morelia, which is just another two hour drive away, and it is probably, one of the most gorgeous colonial cities in all of México, and is considered a hidden gem by many, since very few international tourists ever even make it there. 

Unfortunately, it is true.  Izzi or Wizz as the Chapala office now says on their sign is turning off everyone's service until you come down to pay to have it turned back on.  If you have already paid for June, it doesn't matter because according to them you were paying Telecable, now you must come in and pay Izzi or Wizz or whoever they really are.  The line in front of the Chapala office was halfway down the street.  But with all the new internet and television options becoming available, they will pay highly for their incompetence.

Chapala has a relatively new fishing store.  I can't remember exactly where it is but I think it is on or around Morelos.  Maybe someone will chime in and tell us if it even is still open.

As of 10 pm tonight, so far we haven't got more than a few drops here in Chapala.  But hopefully, more will come tonight.

Carolina, have you tried Mercado Libre mexico?  They deliver straight to your door 2 days later.  Just make sure the seller has a good reputation before ordering.  They have what you are looking for.  I would recommend clicking on pagar en efectivo (pay in cash) and then click on at  Oxxo or the 7eleven.  I don't like using my credit a lot in Mexico.

Oh, so you can rest at ease, the recommendation not to drive at night is not so much to avoid the cartel or "bad hombres" it is mostly to avoid hitting speed bumps, pot holes, poor road conditions (most roads are mountainous) and the frequent livestock that may and do wander on the roads at night.

Profeco isn't exactly for only visitors, its to protect Mexican citizens, but anybody can use them I believe.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned CBD oil on this thread yet.  Most CBD oil is really just legal hemp seed oil, unless the label says otherwise.  Just 5 or 6 drops under the tongue can really relax you and allow you to acquire a deep and restful night of sleep with zero side effects and zero drugged or groggy feeling in the morning.  CBD oil has been widely covered on this board discussing its potential as a non-adicctive, safe medium to get a good nights sleep.  Forget about big pharma, thinking about the dangerous side effects of their drugs, alone, will keep you up all night with worry.  Just google CBD oil.

Yaca or jack fruit can usually be found in the Chapala tianguis.

Sprinkled in Ajijic?  It rained heavy here in Chapala for about 30 minutes or so.  Down by the lake, Madero turned into a temporary river.
