The place Maincoons is inquiring about is called Lagos de Oro or Lakes of Gold in English. It is ok if you are hungry and want something fast but it is far from the best. I never noticed it to be filthy as one poster pointed out and I have never gotten sick there. I have been pretty disappointed with Chinese food in Mexico as a whole. One thing I miss are those huge Chinese buffets with everything imaginable on 10 tables or more. I have never seen anything like it in Mexico. Asiana buffet in Asheville, NC was utterly amazing.

In Chapala El Fogón de Mezquite and Il Giardino, which are right next to each other usually close at 11 ish.

Let them come the local businesses are going to benefit. A good friend of mine that runs a small restaurant by the puestos on the malecón got 7000 today. The more the merrier.

You guys do realize that if and when we do get rain this time of year its usually just a light sprinkle or light drizzle. So don't get too excited. But miracles can happen.

I would look on Amazon. And read the reviews. If you can find one locally you probably won't have much selection. And who knows how accurate it would be.

Don't forget to check out San Francisco furniture store in Chapala next to the Coffee Hour at the intersection coming in to Chapala. The prices would probably be more reasonable.

This region is extremely safe to walk day and night. Violence and muggings are not common for expats here except unless you try to make extra income in the drug trade. Those that do usually don't get out alive. If you use basic common sense and don't drink and hang out with mafiosos you will have nothing to worry. This area is much safer than most of the USA if you don't get stupid.

México can be described by many wonderful and cutesy terms but peace and quiet isn't often used unless you are in a gated community further outside the towns and even that is not always guaranteed. For those quiter and more peaceful places a car is usually required or frequent reliance on ubers busses and taxis.

Rest assured you will not be the only newcomer visiting here right now, not by a long shot. In my 11 years here I have never seen so many newbies moving here and visiting this area at once. I am speaking as someone living in Chapala. Chapala is being swarmed, the other afternoon I saw more gringos on the Chapala malecón than Mexicans and that had never happened before. I can only imagine how it is in Ajijic. But don't forget to check out Chapala too, its layout and affordabillity among other reasons may make it more rewarding than the other towns. It all depends on what the expat needs if you prefer gringo bars and gringo restaurants in an over crowed expat town Ajijic is your town. If you prefer to attempt to melt into the Mexican community surrounded by mostly flat, smooth and wide avenues and sidewalks with ample shopping and stores and not feel constantly bombarded by English being spoken then Chapala may be more of your cup of tea.

I really don't see this truly being inforced in this area anytime soon since smoking anywhere is so prolific here even most of the police smoke out in the open.

Just set it on the street. It will disappear in no time.
