  1. We tried to go there Saturday but with the rain and power outage I guess they were closed.

I walked down today (bottom of short  little Privada below Ramón Corona and Ramón Velasquez) to ask all my questions but they're closed Monday.

Have you been there?  What kind of food do they serve?  Did you like it enough to go back? Is there indoor or just"under the tents" seating? (I could see that part by peaking in the small opening in the solid front gates.)

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Not exactly clear on your requirement.  Do you want in-home post-op care or in-home physio? Or both?

For in-home care I highly recommend Sra. Rosario (have never known her last name but her husband, Dr. Roberto Martinez, used to have the "Blue House" in upper la Floresta). Have know them and seen them work with patients for years, and she currently does some drop-in care for a friend..  She was the on-duty o/n nurse plus filled many daytime duties as required.  I know for a fact she's available for overnights right now.... and she also does daytime work ... stay or drop-in... PLUS will cook, shop, etc. if needed.  Wonderful caring person and super-capable.  Has a wheelchair and a walker at her disposal, plus an elevated "potty seat" that goes right on top of your own toilet to make it easier for you to sit and rise. Invaluable!. 333-947 7504  PM me for references.

As for physio, I followed  the hospital physio and my doctor's recommendation to the letter after my hip replacement in early 2018.  I had NO problems and things came along famously.  Kind of boring, but I made  list and followed it.....the do's and the don'ts... changing as doc's instructions changed with follow-ups. Personally can't imagine why one would need a physio unless you have some other issues.  And yes, I was bone-on-bone plus several bone spurs, and was barely able to walk with a walker prior.

A year later I got trochanteric bursitis in the other hip.  Same doc sent me to Dra. Justina (west Ajijic) who is an MD plus Rehab Medicine Specialist. She has excellent facilities /staff at her clinic and I did really well  with them. (I had also rehabbed with her after carpal tunnel surgery 2014 or so). I have no idea if she can arrange in-home visits but you can always ask. 376 766 5563

We hardwired my wife's puter and it made a big dif from the previous wifi even though it is on same floor only about 20 ft. of mostly hallway from the modem. Our guests use the wifi and we do with some things we have on our smart tv through a concrete floor with little problem which is strange. Have you had your puters checked?

My desktop is hard-wired and no prob. His laptop and tablet rely on wifi.... further away than the TV by a bunch and no prob. So I know it was the wifi signal to the android box that was the issue.

  4. Depending on what you want to reach, you might consider a flat ethernet cable instead.     When we had an  android box for TV wifi was unreliable due to 9 inch thick  wall and some distance (22 feet) between modem and TV, it was suggested to us to get a long ethernet cable and change the TV from wifi to direct connection. Bought a 50 foot CAT 6 cable on Amazon U.S.    Cheap, and came very quickly.  Comes in white and black.  Had to drill a hole in the wall---- no biggie---- and worked like a charm until the android box got messed up, and with no Derek any more, we were in BIG trouble.

Solved that by buying a Firestick (Rich installed and programmed) and it receives the wifi at same TV location really well.

If you have a fixed location for anything with a USB port,    you can get these cables up to about 100 feet long (I think).

  5. Based on a friend's recent rental search experience,   pretty sure he will have to look in  less fancy areas of Chapala......  above Soriana,                  other side west of and above the bull ring, etc. Rents asked in San Antonio are outrageous as are those closer to the American Legion, etc. over there. Outlying towns maybe.... but could your friend do that?  Possibly some parts of Ixtlahuacan as well.

There ARE some cheaper rentals in Buenavista but that too is ??? for a person in poor health.

  6. HAHAHA!  Never mind.... found it myself.  Old lady brain finally thought "you've checked everywhere else.... try the Ojo"... and sure enough, THERE was their ad.  Only strange thing is the actual building ( west side of San José, about 3 doors up from LaPaz) has no signage of any sort to indicate they exist. Soft opening? Hidden location? Hhmmmmm....

PM if you want to know more as I don't want to "promote" a facility I know nothing about.

  7. Hah... beat you by a country mile amigo.  Got there around 12:30.....walked toward "my" alphabet group and had only one person ahead of me!  Took the    girl longer to find my name in the credential register book than all the rest of the process.

But must say am encouraged..... MANY people in the A-F group, and quite a few in the others that didn't apply to me. And ans always in SA..... everyone being calm, quiet , and orderly.

It's only a midterm. Sure he could lose his majority, but I'm wondering exactly which political party will do any better, particularly while he remains Presidente.

It's not that they'd do better. It's to prevent him from enacting several of the dangerous proposals he has in mind for 2nd half of his term. Gaining more seats would give a better chance of achieving this before it's too late.

I AM  a Mexican citizen, but will say no more because I want to respect the rules of this board.

If you want to go with Apple macOS rather than Microsoft Windows you can order a laptop with an English keyboard from the online Apple Mexico Store www.apple.com/mx

some people don't want to change OS, or else can't really afford Apple products

I sometimes use Ishop's Laredo address to receive things like credit cards, etc.  I pay Ishop 60 p. for each piece, or about $3.  The poster is asking for $80 for 14 months or about $6 US per month and he specifies that it must be someone who gets little mail and no magazines.  Unless you receive more than 2 pieces of mail every month, I don't understand the advantage.  I also have a p.o. box in Chapala where I get things like Christmas cards, and only use Ishop for things like credit cards.

I'm in the group sharing that box. He is not "asking" $80.....    the price of that box, divided by 5 (members) is what it is. Invaluable for us for important government and bank mail. Also, some U.S. online buying sites will not allow your cc purchase unless the mailing address of your cc is also in the U.S. (Yes, I have had the experience).  So now my CC billing  address is Laredo, even though it's a Canadian card.

Reason for no magazines is (1) box is very small, and (2) over the years some people have really abused the "small amount of mail" rule.... and then left it there for days before picking it up, so really impacts us other users.

Thanks. Mine has a Spanish keyboard but this one is for another Gringo who probably needs English. This gringo does not want to buy online.

Well according to what I've been told  about English keyboards on laptops here, said gringo might have to change his/her mind!

Alternative is to buy one with Spanish keyboard, buy a regular (desktop style) English keyboard, and voila... plug in and problem solved.

  12. If you need and ENGLISH keyboard, good luck with that!  My husband does, PLUS he "has to have" 17.3 inch screen.  Only option for us was to buy on Amazon U.S and have it shipped directly here, with Amazon taking care of customs, shipping etc.  It was more reasonable than sending it to Laredo and then having it come to iShop from there. Was due to arrive June 5 but actually was delivered May 27!!!

He got essentially the same model (NOT sufficient for gamers )   he's had last 2 times..... likes it...... and the price was actually cheaper this time than when he bought one in 2015..... go figure..... for more of "everything" (RAM, etc.... not my area of forte).

Your visit is almost over and you get positive test results before flying back to the US. What happens then? You can't fly back to the US, obviously, without a negative antigen test result.

New hotel, guesthouse Air B&B reservations? Are you charged a change or/rebooking fee with most air carriers? And what about the Covid test itself? You may even be asymptomatic and feel 100%. Do you have to see a doctor and begin  a course of treatment and get yourself retested before making a new airline reservation?

These are all potential issues right now. Just wondering if anyone on the forum has encountered this scenario......or know of someone who has.

Wouldn't you assume the other side of the fence (where you are headed) would have been the place to ask your questions?  Other than you can't get on a plane in the first place wtih positive test. Just wonderin'

  14.  Go to the Telmex machine in Ajijic day before the due date. If you put your number in you'll see the balance. HOWEVER since we use our TM bill as "proof of address" and some places absolutely will not accept non-paper, I do call them in a pinch and they have sent me an email I can print.

Last month a kind TM person (in Spanish) walked me though getting it from mi cuenta, which I had registered ages ago but was NEVER able to get into. After trying with her on the line (no luck) she finally told me to change the PW to  first letter a CAPITAL.  Worked like a charm!  Printed. Of course, arrived 2 hours later.........
