  1. No dog in this fight (gracias Ferret) but be aware that the higher yield investments at Multiva are NOT covered by Mexican equivalent of FDIC. I only know this after translating their entire statement one period for a friend..... who was more than shocked at this revelation  I cannot say for O'Rourke, Intercam etc, but suspect the same applies.

You need to take the time to read ALL the fine print, and ask the hard questions.  They apparently were not willing to explain this to her when she asked.

At that late age the behaviors are hard to change.

There is a feral cat in the neighborhood,

We are at our wits end with this cat.  We try and keep him in and he works so hard at getting out he even opens windows and has destroyed half the screens in the house.

He has even sprayed a piece of furniture in the house.

Seriously considering trying to get him adopted out but frankly I couldn't recommend him to anyone as he behaves now.  But at this point we'd be happy to not have to deal with him.  I know that sounds harsh but he is out of control.  We are taking him to a different vet as his abscesses still aren't under control and also to discuss what can be done to get him under control.

Behaviour... not necessarily so and age is NOT a factor.... especially since  without doubt the feral cat is the trigger.  Your cat is simply protecting "his" territory and his age has nothing to do with it.  More likely this particular feral cat is more aggressive about wanting to invade same. Before I closed my doors I had a neutered male Siamese about 6 yrs old (one of 6) ... neuter date unknown... got him at 5.  HE started taking extreme offence to feral cats and DID start to spray in various places in the house.  Sadly before we could address, he developed an  incurable problem and went over the Rainbow Bridge. That left another part-Siamese 2 yr old boy who unforgettably had picked up on the behaviour as HE was spraying. Vets were looking at treatment options when he was poisoned on one of his daytime forays....  and I closed the doors forever.

At that time I had a 4-yr old, 11 month old, and 2-5 year olds, all of whom had freely come and go day-times.  The 11 month old  had recently come from the streets and had never known even being indoors at night.  It took a month of tough love and  difficultly, but in the end they all accepted the new rules.

has destroyed half the screens in the house.  TOO familiar with this one too.  Took in a 6 mo old   2 1/2 years ago from a  caring  lady who rescued VERY PG mom... kittens were born, and she kept all, but had ZERO idea how to socialize and/or contain them. This one destroyed every screen,  screens on the sliders, and was a totally WILD thing. When she started going over the wall. I brought her home,  kept her in a large dog crate, & worked with her until she could be released into my house.  Has never tried a door or window since.  Bisbee Gal has a good solution to this for you.

Seriously considering trying to get him adopted out   PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T DO THIS.... to the cat or to others. Cats are highly territorial and he will do his best to return to you if he manages to escape. That means most likely he'll die trying.... mean dogs, traffic, or ??? Your alternate solution, harsh as it seems, would be far more humane if find you simply cannot deal.  Best of luck whichever way you go.

I need someone 24/7 for up to 10 days depending on what the doctor says afterwards.  Maybe 2 people, split shift.

As I said earlier, contact Sra. Rosario.  She'll do all of the above, but if she can't stay day-times her son is a trained paramedic and might be able to help cover.  IF not, she may have a competent friend.  OR you can contact Sra. Lidia, who has a crew of in-home care staff who can fill whatever hours you need (she assisted a friend for 4 years with this) 333 156  9080

Max's outdoor freedom days are over.  I want to find a cat harness so he can at least be outside on a leash for some fresh air and sunshine.  But no more wandering, he just can't handle it.  I wonder if they have them at the cat shelter.

Cats can get out of an "H" shaped harness faster than you can imagine.  Properly fitted, figure-eights are better but not totally reliable either. However.... far and away the best and safest  truly escape-proof type is a sort of "body jacket".   Check these out for an example of what I mean.

A friend had one like this and walked her ENORMOUS escape-artist Devon Rex cat with it very successfully.

I do believe and I have talked before about indoor vs outdoor.  If that's the case you'll remember i closed my doors completely after 3 (deadly) incidents in very short order back in 2004 and none of my many cats have so much as set a toenail outside since.

Not to mention they've become quite expensive.  He mixed it up with a local cat he doesn't have the sense to avoid and has an abscess and God knows what else.  Before they even got started, over 3000 pesos, they've gotten very pricey to say the least.  I'm beginning to understand why there was no crowd when I took him over this morning.

Hector wasn't there.  Have no idea if the young lady vet seeing him understands he needs to be checked for underlying issues although I told her so.

Agree on the $$$ but I'm very sure all in his employees are good at their jobs. Isabel has been with him for MANY years (back to when Antonio as well as Hector) was there.  I know most of the others but refuse to duke it out in public. I do  know he never keeps them there if they aren't competent.

  6. We tried to go there Saturday but with the rain and power outage I guess they were closed.

I walked down today (bottom of short  little Privada below Ramón Corona and Ramón Velasquez) to ask all my questions but they're closed Monday.

Have you been there?  What kind of food do they serve?  Did you like it enough to go back? Is there indoor or just"under the tents" seating? (I could see that part by peaking in the small opening in the solid front gates.)

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Not exactly clear on your requirement.  Do you want in-home post-op care or in-home physio? Or both?

For in-home care I highly recommend Sra. Rosario (have never known her last name but her husband, Dr. Roberto Martinez, used to have the "Blue House" in upper la Floresta). Have know them and seen them work with patients for years, and she currently does some drop-in care for a friend..  She was the on-duty o/n nurse plus filled many daytime duties as required.  I know for a fact she's available for overnights right now.... and she also does daytime work ... stay or drop-in... PLUS will cook, shop, etc. if needed.  Wonderful caring person and super-capable.  Has a wheelchair and a walker at her disposal, plus an elevated "potty seat" that goes right on top of your own toilet to make it easier for you to sit and rise. Invaluable!. 333-947 7504  PM me for references.

As for physio, I followed  the hospital physio and my doctor's recommendation to the letter after my hip replacement in early 2018.  I had NO problems and things came along famously.  Kind of boring, but I made  list and followed it.....the do's and the don'ts... changing as doc's instructions changed with follow-ups. Personally can't imagine why one would need a physio unless you have some other issues.  And yes, I was bone-on-bone plus several bone spurs, and was barely able to walk with a walker prior.

A year later I got trochanteric bursitis in the other hip.  Same doc sent me to Dra. Justina (west Ajijic) who is an MD plus Rehab Medicine Specialist. She has excellent facilities /staff at her clinic and I did really well  with them. (I had also rehabbed with her after carpal tunnel surgery 2014 or so). I have no idea if she can arrange in-home visits but you can always ask. 376 766 5563

We hardwired my wife's puter and it made a big dif from the previous wifi even though it is on same floor only about 20 ft. of mostly hallway from the modem. Our guests use the wifi and we do with some things we have on our smart tv through a concrete floor with little problem which is strange. Have you had your puters checked?

My desktop is hard-wired and no prob. His laptop and tablet rely on wifi.... further away than the TV by a bunch and no prob. So I know it was the wifi signal to the android box that was the issue.

  9. Depending on what you want to reach, you might consider a flat ethernet cable instead.     When we had an  android box for TV wifi was unreliable due to 9 inch thick  wall and some distance (22 feet) between modem and TV, it was suggested to us to get a long ethernet cable and change the TV from wifi to direct connection. Bought a 50 foot CAT 6 cable on Amazon U.S.    Cheap, and came very quickly.  Comes in white and black.  Had to drill a hole in the wall---- no biggie---- and worked like a charm until the android box got messed up, and with no Derek any more, we were in BIG trouble.

Solved that by buying a Firestick (Rich installed and programmed) and it receives the wifi at same TV location really well.

If you have a fixed location for anything with a USB port,    you can get these cables up to about 100 feet long (I think).

  10. Based on a friend's recent rental search experience,   pretty sure he will have to look in  less fancy areas of Chapala......  above Soriana,                  other side west of and above the bull ring, etc. Rents asked in San Antonio are outrageous as are those closer to the American Legion, etc. over there. Outlying towns maybe.... but could your friend do that?  Possibly some parts of Ixtlahuacan as well.

There ARE some cheaper rentals in Buenavista but that too is ??? for a person in poor health.

  11. HAHAHA!  Never mind.... found it myself.  Old lady brain finally thought "you've checked everywhere else.... try the Ojo"... and sure enough, THERE was their ad.  Only strange thing is the actual building ( west side of San José, about 3 doors up from LaPaz) has no signage of any sort to indicate they exist. Soft opening? Hidden location? Hhmmmmm....

PM if you want to know more as I don't want to "promote" a facility I know nothing about.

  12. Hah... beat you by a country mile amigo.  Got there around 12:30.....walked toward "my" alphabet group and had only one person ahead of me!  Took the    girl longer to find my name in the credential register book than all the rest of the process.

But must say am encouraged..... MANY people in the A-F group, and quite a few in the others that didn't apply to me. And ans always in SA..... everyone being calm, quiet , and orderly.

It's only a midterm. Sure he could lose his majority, but I'm wondering exactly which political party will do any better, particularly while he remains Presidente.

It's not that they'd do better. It's to prevent him from enacting several of the dangerous proposals he has in mind for 2nd half of his term. Gaining more seats would give a better chance of achieving this before it's too late.

I AM  a Mexican citizen, but will say no more because I want to respect the rules of this board.
