  1. A couple of years ago we wanted to have a couple of Ethan Allen chairs that we brought with us recovered. We looked through all of Albertos books but couldn't find what we really liked. On a trip to Phoenix went to a fabric warehouse and found something suitable and brought back enough for the chairs. They turned out great - on time - on budget. I've been to the new place and they have lots more room and better light.
  2. Is there still a group working on graffiti? I have paint I'd like to donate - don't know where or who to contact.
  3. We have both solar water and solar electric. We've had solar water for 5 years and it paid for itself in the first year. We only fill our propane once a year now instead of every three months. The solar electric we did through STI. We have 2 solar panels connected to a microinverter system that was a fraction of the cost of other systems and it cut our electric bill in half and keeps us well below the DAC and it's easily expandable if our usage should go up. Solar Technology (STI) did an excellent job of instillation and we've never had any issues. Just depend on what your needs are. Their local rep is Ron Magen and his email is ron@solartechnology.com.mx
  4. I placed an order with Amazon a couple of weeks ago that actually earned free shipping to MX. I was able to follow it through the DHL number provided by Amazon. All went well until it got to customs and they wouldn't clear it. I printed a copy of the email I got from the DHL agent in customs saying I needed a broker, etc. because something couldn't be identified. I took the email to the DHL office in Ajijic. They said it's pretty much impossible to get it past customs once it stops there and just let it go back to Amazon. One of the items was a citrus based liquid and I asked if that might be the problem - the guy at DHL said probably so. I placed a reorder minus the liquid and it arrived in 6 days. DHL returned the suspicious order to amazon yesterday.
  5. Second Felipe. Both he and his wife are very friendly and helpful.
  6. Alberto at Handy Artistic speaks perfect English as does his wife and kids if they're around. Moved here from Seattle where he worked with his father. Does beautiful work and has lots of work-arounds for less than perfect Mexican furniture. Samples of the latest fabrics in all price ranges. We recently purchased some rattan like chairs without cushions (we didn't like) for our terrace. After finding the Sunbrella fabric we liked and was in stock in Guadalajara Alberto estimated 2-3 weeks - they were finished the next week. Heading east on the carretera in Riberas past the animal shelter and in the next block after Toscano Pizza, on the lake side next to a Sayer paint store. 331-437-9593 M-F
  7. My wife has been cutting my hair for the almost 4 years we've lived here and doing a rather nice job I might add. The stylist who used to cut my hair for the previous 8 years used to tell me my hair was the hardest cut he did - straight and fine. I was long past due for a cut and my wife said I needed to go to a pro as it was more (too long) than she could deal with and I should try Maria Teresa from all she'd read and heard. Clearly the best haircut I've ever had. Not only a very talented stylist but she is a warm and charming person as well.
  8. This morning a friend who has insomnia posted on Facebook about the success she's had with Passiflora so I looked it up. Here's one link I found.
