  1. I have been active in animal welfare for more years than I want to count. Some parts of the US still have an overpopulation problem - mostly in the Southern states. Other parts of the country have done such a good job with spay/neuter education that they are able to 'import' dogs to meet the demand. When I left Boulder CO almost 11 years ago, they were bringing in dogs regularly. The practice has spread widely in recent years. Every Mexican dogs brought to the US and placed doesn't have any relevance to areas of the country who don't bother with spay/neuter education or with sending their unwanted dogs to areas of the country where demand is high.
  2. You are very right - there has never been a school shooting in Mexico.
  3. I don't know about dosage, but when he got older I gave Sam 1/3 Costco Glucosamine MSM tablet when they still carried them in Mexico. He weighed 30 lbs. I also gave him 1/4 tsp powdered MSM. I sprinkled the powder on his raw meat, and put a bit of peanut butter on the end of a butter knife. I put the pill on the peanut butter and Sam would lick the whole thing off the knife. Corgis tend to be food obsessive so it is pretty easy. I have taught the other dogs just using the peanut butter so they learn to lick it off the knife. I gently rub the knife across their top teeth so they get a mouthful of peanut butter. Then they are more likely to take the pill hidden in the peanut butter later on. A chunk of strong flavored cheese with a little pocket cut in it and the pill shoved inside works well too.
  4. When I still had old Corgis and old cats - all have crossed the bridge now - I added MSM powder to their food. It seemed to make a big difference. Darn cat was 18 1/2 and could still jump on everything but the kitchen counters. I got it from Ladrone's Vet Clinic.
  5. I would just point out that most of the vendors we deal with make a lot less money than most of us get every month. Haggling with them over a few pesos that you can well afford is crass. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. IMHO
  6. I find price shopping for medicine we take regularly to be well worth while. Farmacia Guadalajara is best for many common meds. Farmacia Maskaras is best for unusual medicines as they will order and have it the next day. They also deliver (wonderful when your car isn't working).
  7. Hours are 10 am to 12:30 pm. And yes there is still a line at the front door and unless you are very spry, lines for the most popular vendors by the time you can get to them. Learn to meet the nice people in line and stay calm.
  8. Keep in mind that in states and countries where cannabis is legal, there are a wealth of different strains and products for medicinal use. They are not yet available in Mexico and it may be a long time before they are.
  9. I understand that there is a Facebook page for folks living on the West and South shores. I don't know the name but it would probably be worth checking out. You'd get answers from people actually living there.
  10. No, I got the name wrong. She moved from next to Maskaras. Sorry. It sounded as if the OP didn't know about the new office.
  11. Read up on medical marijuana before you say anything to make yourself look silly.
  12. Just an FYI The generic brand doesn't cause a cough, at least for me.
  13. I soak nearly everything in Clorox water - cheap, fast (only 3-4 minutes) you don't use much, and it works. I've never had berries turn to mush. I soak briefly in Clorox water and rinse in vinegar water to retard any mold. They last for a week or two. Trust a spray from Walmart? ROTGL
  14. Sr. Aragon does speak some English. We had our house locks re-keyed and he suffered thru my Spanish. We went by the shop to have our car key duplicated and I heard him speaking English to another customer. I gave him a raised eyebrow and he gave me a grin.
  15. You need a special type of Visa to obtain employment in Mexico, and too often you're taking a job away from an under employed or unemployed young person. I agree with Pappy, there are tons of volunteer opportunities and many can use someone with a financial background.
  16. Not on a Pit Bull. Stun gun or cattle prod might work. They were bred for generations to be impervious to pain so stopping them can be difficult.
  17. Here is the contact information for Katya water. They have delivery guys for all over so call to find the person who delivers to your area. Tel: 765-3999 Juarez #535-A, Chapala, Jal. http://chapala.com/katia.html
  18. In the same vein, I'm not sure they are considered holistic, but definitely are alternative. My Corgi is seriously allergic to fleas. If I missed his flea drops by even a couple of days, he was scratching like a fiend and biting himself and causing hot spots. He is a little flea magnet. Six months ago I bought a Kokoty Flea Repellent Pendent I know an ultrasonic device makes no sense and that most Vets would tell me it couldn't work. I also know that my dog hasn't had a flea attack since he got the pendant. And no hot spots. And we are both happy about that. Sometimes you have to open your mind to possibilities.
  19. Some people will continue to believe in Big Pharma and traditional Medicine. Others of us have, through practical experience, learned the value of many alternative medicines and remedies. Perhaps we should just agree to disagree.
  20. Or perhaps because Saturday was a day when more people weren't working and Monday isn't a recognized holiday and day-off in Mexico.
  21. I am another very happy patient - excellent job on a crown
  22. I have seen results that vary widely. Even from the recommended person above. Remember if they make a mistake, you go around looking strange for at least 6 months. And uneven eyebrows do look weird.
