Their menu changes frequently. There was no tempura on the menu the evening I was there, although there were some menu items that were more modern than traditional. Like you, I prefer traditional Mexican food and was served precisely that. As I mentioned in the article, I left the choice up to the chef and the manager.

Go by all means! And yes, that would be me. 😎

Oh dear--what's sad and confusing about this? Someone posted those little emojis as responses.

I hope all of you Lakesiders enjoy reading about your wonderful Teocintle restaurant. I loved it. http://mexicocooks.typepad.com/mexico_cooks/2018/07/you-cant-go-home-again-restaurante-teocintle-maíz-ajijic-jalisco-.html

You asked for the one for this cake, this is what my friend uses. If you have a recipe you already like, go for it by all means. Have fun, and enjoy.
-
That's exactly why the cake recipe I posted calls for both! I like my chocolate cake with ice cream.
-
I didn't--I'm not a fan of icing. Here's the icing recipe that my friend sent me along with the cake recipe. I haven't tried it, so you get to be the guinea pig. Provecho!

No apologies necessary, Wookie. I am often all wet and very confused. Make the cake and tell me how you like it! I took mine to a party today and it was a big success.

Yes, the cocoa is unsweetened and needs a good bit of sugar to bring out the chocolate-y ness. If you look at the ingredients list on a box of Nestle's QUIK, for example, you'll see that the first ingredient is sugar, the second is cocoa powder, for the same reason. Fortunately cocoa powder from Tabasco, where cacao grows, is unadulterated with chemicals.

Yes! Thanks for mentioning this!

Wookie, most people follow a recipe when baking a cake. I just baked a chocolate cake yesterday--the recipe called for one and three-quarter cups of all-purpose flour, 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder, 1.5 teaspoons of baking soda, and several other "expensive ingredients". It was indeed easy peasy and I make it all the time. I've never used self-rising flour or a recipe that called for it. Here's the recipe, if you'd like to try it. One bowl, no fuss no muss, easy as can be.

Cedros, the old coins are not at all similar to the new ones except in denomination.
-
Does don Toribio still roll cigars in front of SuperLake? People said his were great.
-
The sizes of the coins aren't different enough to distinguish without it being a PITA. The outside edges of the 50 and 20 centavo coins are different from one another, I suppose for the sake of the visually impaired. One can learn the difference by feel. 50 centavo reeded edge: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces18097.html 20 centavo alternating reeded and plain edge: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces18096.html And yes, both introduced in 2009.

It is kind of surp-rising.

Superb article, with evocative and telling photographs by a friend of mine. -
I use Whatsapp on my computer much more than I use it on my cel phone, although I do send and receive Whatsapp messages on the cel when I am away from the house. And I agree with Curmedgeon, it's excellent.

I often have the same problem that Barrbower mentioned, the blank screen changing to the blue list of forums that go nowhere. PITA. I've been a member here for 4000 years and nada. Alan, if a Chapala.com tech person ever answered a question here I would faint. -
Mine "sticks" like that when it can't tell that my cell phone is turned on. Usually instead of the check marks, it will show a tiny clock face, barely discernible as that.

I was in Ajijic for two days last week and ate in more restaurants than I would have thought possible in such a short time. On Friday afternoon a group of friends and I had comida at Viva Mexico (a charming place where I had never been before). Agustín wasn't able to be there, unfortunately. English-speaking foreigners who appeared to be a couple came into the patio where my friends and I were seated, bringing their two dachshunds with them in a stroller. They proceeded to let the dachshunds sit and walk around ON THE TABLE. Who the hell does that? My friends and I were horrified. The restaurant personnel said nothing. PS to pappysmarket: usually when one is standing in a doorway, "Adelante" means come on in. ETA: Sorry, I hadn't seen solajijic's earlier post.

Vianney has been around forever. It's for catalogue shopping and is only recently online. The products have always been sold by people looking for a way to make some money--either by selling to their friends and acquaintances, or their companions at their other jobs. Where you see on the website "Afíliate", it means join the thousands of people who already sell via the Vianney catalogues. In many cities and larger towns, you'll find Vianney stores. About 99.9% of their sheets, blankets, etc are attractive but cheaply made 100% polyester. The towels are cotton.

Good grief, I should just shut up. Yes, of course trademark. Thank you, Angus. 🤐

I was thinking more about copyright infringement. But thanks.

Thanks for the correction. And how interesting that the name is so similar.

It's Fonda Garufa, we have them in CDMX. Here's their website, complete with menu. I have been for breakfast and love their huevos ahogados. http://www.garufa.rest/
