  3. There has been a fire raging since yesterday. Huge flames visible during the night from Brisas de Chapala. We have been watching a helicopter drop water on it all day. Our Administrator at Brisas was told by bomberos that they need donations of food and drink for all of the many volunteers helping to put this ever growing fire out.

  7. I just saw this on a local Facebook page from the local - Chapala ANAVETS (Army, Navy, Airforce Veterans Assn.): "Request for Emergency Assistance. Members and Friends, as you may be aware there are dangerous forest fires that are threatening some of our Lakeside Communities right now. Our Bomberos (Firefighters) are in need of Emergency Assistance. Let's work together to help them out. The Bomberos need donations of the following items: 1. Energy Bars 2. Oranges, Apples and Bananas 3. Gatorade or other Electrolyte drinks 4. Bottled Water 5. Dried fruit 6. Sandwiches without ham or Cheese Please bring your donations into Mamas Musical Bar on Thursday and we will ensure it gets distributed to the Bomberos. Donations can also be dropped off at Johnnys Cocktail Lounge. Thank You!"

  8. In considering either Chiapas or Oaxaca, you may want to concentrate on one line in the above Joni Mitchell song... "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone". I'll stay here. I chose the east side of Ajijic specifically because of the traffic congestion and have everything I need within five minutes. I also chose a one level, small one bedroom house and small garden for easy maintenance and care. Look before you leap.

  10. I'm a bit late, but another vote for Chopo. Unfortunately, as we age, more medical tests have been needed more frequently and so we've had to go there many times. Go online to get a discount, too!

  11. Yes, CID is probably the best combo of price and quality. https://maps.app.goo.gl/RmCWFSxr6cspFzK67 I paid about $4000 MXN Salud Digna is most economical. About 2000 MXN but the quality of their scans and interpretations said to not be as good: Bañuelos is considered the best, pricier. https://maps.app.goo.gl/kyfg7zmpKhXmPxHc8 Depending on what you are scanning.....

  13. Some macho-duck in a light brown large 4 door pickup today, did a massive donut on the lake side of the carraterra in a dirt parking lot, purposefully spraying clouds of dust and dirt all over the roadway in the process. Total bozo. Dangerous and stupid thing to do. A block further east, I passed a Chapala police pickup, he headed in that direction and pulled him over about 30 seconds later. Good to see it and I hope it continues.

The house I now own was built by Pedro Arellano for the retiring mayor of Chapala in the early 2,000's. He was paying for it with municipal funds but got caught. Arellano then sold it to a Texan from whom we purchased in 2012. For the past 10 years I have worked on the Boards of two ACs and that deal regularly with the Municipality. The motivators seem to be a good photo op and money. Otherwise don't bother me. SunFan

  18. Fred, I think most people are grown up on this forum and we all made the decision to move to Mexico and received a lot of negative feedback from friends and family in our original country of residence. We are also older now and have different needs including availability of medical care. That item certainly wasn't high on my priority list when we moved to Mexico in 1996. I recommend that anyone moving to Mexico rent for a full year before purchasing a home here and to keep your "stuff" in storage should you decide it's not for you. So, I offer the same advice to anyone changing location within Mexico... and I wish to hell that I had heard from anyone about summers on the coast of Nayarit before we sold our San Miguel de Allende house and built one in San Pancho, Nayarit.

  23. I just left Chapala. Double parking in front of Comex and Casther store. Without double parking, how can you pick up any items that are heavy/large as there simply isn't enough parking! Personally, we haven't seen any change regarding double parking. Now that there is 60% less parking I would image we will actually see more double parking.

  24. It's a tough call. We've considered moving to just outside of Oaxaca City but it would be difficult to give up the superior air connections of GDL and the fantastic climate here. We cope with the traffic by timing going out carefully. Shopping is pretty easy here now thanks to Walmart for the major stuff and a much improved walk to El Torito that has all the other stuff. We like the easy access to the beach from here, although Oaxaca now has that since after 15 years the new road to the coast finally opened. You would think the crazy high home and rent prices would start to cut the influx but that doesn't seem to be the case although I have been told both sales and rentals have slowed. Development here seems to have shifted from single family or townhouse to NOB style condos, raising density even higher. I don't see how this area is going to avoid a very bad water shortage pretty soon. Our first challenge is to downsize from a quite large and maintenance intensive property to something more appropriate for people in their 80's. It seems if one doesn't like living jammed up against or on top of/under a bunch of other people the options are pretty limited. This would not be the case in Oaxaca. The best thing about Oaxaca is we'd be living in Mexico again. 15 years ago this was still sorta Mexico, now not even close.

  25. It is a beautiful área and easy to live here yes for those who complain they should check other places. In Chiapas we had to get things for an exhibición opening saturday and onnfriday the maestros decide to block all roads In the state..if You think Ajijic is a mess You should have been In Tuxtla stick onnthe Road innmiserable heat..Also My neighbors who have tinacos have no water because the city does not have enough presdure to send the water to the top of the hill and if they did the system.that is old and obsolete would break up..Do not move to México if You want a good infraestructura.wait until the Chapala área runs out of water.. Thait Will be way worse than the traffic.

  34. Fire is still blazing just not as bad as the winds have died down. The helicopter worked all night dropping water onto the fire. We hope the winds are calm today and maybe, hopefully, the fire will be put out completely.

  36. I don't really care who you checked with. Arizona does NOT require that overseas voters register yearly. We are required to update our status every 4 years. We voted in the March primary, vote was counted and the primary should be certified soon. If you feel Arizona is in violation , please contact them:

  37. In an earlier post, I commented that Arizona does not require that you register annually, either. Must update voting information every 4 years. North Dakota is the only state where you don't have to be registered to Vote. Every state has different rules and regulations.
