  1. For reasons that have been discussed elsewhere, I would think twice. Of course, that's just my opinion.

  2. Max the Magnificent Maine Coon has gone on ahead of us. He has a lovely resting place in one part of our garden with a great view of the walls he loved to walk. Definitely our best cat ever, much loved and missed.

  4. Back to May before the rains. Should be heating up today, more tomorrow. Strong SW winds aloft remain, while this cuts down on the pollution the rains can't begin until these abate and the easterlies gain traction. I am expecting a late start to the rainy season this year.

  5. You gave Max a wonderful life and he lived it to its fullest. When you are feeling sad, remember something silly he did and how much joy he brought to your life. And know that you'll meet at the Rainbow Bridge someday.

  7. Yes but not close to either. I guess Rick removed his post saying west of Yves which I was adding to. So my number for the lot is 200 and her office is the next wide door entrance.

  12. Talk to Lynda Anderson at the LCS on the days she is working (volunteering) there. She uses one as daily transport and knows a lot about it. Hers was converted to lithium-ion batteries from Go Solar (STI Solar Technology) and she is very happy, no maintenance, it runs beautifully, and with 300 pounds less weight in the cart than before, she says the suspension is also much improved over the cobbles and topes on the back streets.

  14. We have AXA insurance through Jesus Tejada. I believe he handles other insurance companies also and will evaluate which is best for your situation. Have had 3 accidents, all handled to our satisfaction. Only blip was that with one accident in Ajijic, it took the adjuster awhile to arrive since they were stuck in traffic in Guad. The other two incidents they arrived in reasonable time (one a bit north of Joco, on the way to Guad, and the other in Guad). Jesus came to our house to discuss insurance options (we also have health insurance through him) and make arrangements. Since then, we have handled renewals via email and phone. He speaks perfect English and was helpful in dealing with the insurance company when we had accidents and had difficulty navigating the phone menus. Agent's card attached for reference. On the accident north of Joco, car was damaged but drivable. We were nervous about the damage, however, so the insurance adjuster came with us to drive the car home to Ajijic, to be sure we got there OK. I thought that was pretty good service.

  16. I applaud your ability to recognize your need AND the willingness to put it out in the open. I think many people continue to drive long past their capacity to do so... Consider the following question rhetorical... Each of the alternative you've listed has unique abilities. First, you didn't mention the reasons for your need to stop driving. If you consider these, do they preclude all forms of driving? Driving in Traffic? Driving at night? Whatever your reasons, consider if they transfer over to any other kind of vehicles. If your sense of balance is affected, perhaps a bicycle isn't an answer. Do you live on (or need to drive on) any of the many, very poorly surfaced streets? Perhaps a gold cart wouldn't be much fun (bouncing like pop corn in hot oil). What changes in your life/health have brought you to the decision and would they present any problems with alternative transportation? Last, why not drop by one of the electric bike rental places and try out a couple of bikes with different set ups (narrow tires/wide tires, seats, handlebar configuration) and a tricycle or two to get a preview and learn what might feel right. Then find a gold cart to try (ride with a friend/borrow? and try to do all of the above on streets you'll be using routinely.I

  17. It is a crap shoot at best to get a spot at all, let alone a close one. The airport parking is chaotic and not sufficient capacity for those who want to use it, hence all of those private lots on Chapala highway now. Do yourself a favor and leave the car at home and taxi there. Just figure it as part of the cost of traveling.
