  1. I blocked Crabbypants, so no longer have to read his snide remarks...

  2. I've wondered about this, too. Don't mind Crabbypants, if it isn't in his ballpark, it isn't important.

  3. Not much you can do about the exchange rate. You could look at your home purchase and profit in a different way. That's 15 years that you didn't pay rent at approximately an average of $1,000 U.S. dollars a month... 15 years x 12 months x $1,000 U.S. is $180,000 U.S. dollars saved (in addition to the $120,000 U.S. gain on the price).

  4. Such a wonderful, kind, intelligent and charming man. He will be missed by many. Thinking of his family during this terribly sad and difficult time. Val Jones

  7. Mexico has made being an expat difficult --A lot don't make it past 12 years--they just get worn out by the stupidity- we are just a walking wallet in their eyes--I have 15 years this latest trip in retirement--with 73 years, I'm too old to fight--HA- Tending my aches and pains takes most of my attention-- HA

  8. We've been here almost 16 years and get our legal advice from a lawyer here. Only need accountant for income tax, also here. Vehicle insurance only. we have a very honest agent who told us it would be a waste of money for any kind of home insurance. His rational- house won't burn and contents can be replaced as well as any theft because the ladrons will only take what they can carry. We pay medical/ dental/drugs out of pocket[made sure we had a slush fund for it] Med insurance is throwing good money after bad.

  10. I am now a patient of the only ophthalmologist I like and trust after seeing several who come to Lakeside and in Guadalajara, recommended to me by RVGringo. I'm sorry to hear of his death. Can someone tell me his real name? I've forgotten it and I'd like to mention his passing to this doctor. Lexy

  11. He missed Mexico but his need for a lower altitude due to his breathing problems drove him out of Chapala and then back to the USA due to his help at the VA hospitals....My condolences .

  12. Thanks for that. We both live (lived) here in Alamo Country Club. He gave me his address shortly before we moved here and said to stop by and say hello. That's not my style so I emailed him and he said he wasn't well enough right then but he wanted to meet up. Shortly after, Covid struck and sadly I did not get the opportunity to meet him. We both grew up in Upstate New York and had some similar interests. He had a wonderful life story to tell. He had a great job with Eastman/Kodak that took him all over the world. He quit that job and he and his family bought a boat and sailed to the South Pacific for several years. Yeah, he really did that. They left Chapala to go to a lower altitude and they ended up in Tucson. For whatever reason, that didn't work so they moved here. He and MC were friendly adversaries on this board. We have a very popular FB group here of only owners but I rarely saw any posts from him, just a few from his wife. I asked him if they were going to the Pot Luck back when we first got here and he replied "Pot Yuck". We differed on our politics but his life experiences made him a person I would have liked to have known better. RIP Bob.

  13. Not sure how I missed this comment but yes, regulations on copyright material. Using local talent is great in theory until you find yourself on the wrong end of a copywrite claim. All music I use has to have a Licensed certificate of use, otherwise anyone can claim ownership, once a claim is made, regardless of if it is true or not, the video is removed. Nothing sucks more than spending months to produce content then having it removed because of someone thinking its to close to their song or some one deciding that a video is too popular and then deciding after the fact they should have been paid more. So no I dont just make this stuff up. This happens all the time, especially on You Tube, there are actual trolls that seek out content to claim as there own to try and get you tube to redirect earnings to them. So everything is documented and licensed.
