  1. I don't think folks are getting their jollies by constantly complaining, but are simply frustrated by what actually happens instead of what could be. You can enjoy what we have, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be more...and then to see such half-assed efforts get awarded "Pueblo Magico" ...

  2. IMHO, it is the same chronic bitching about everything the government does locally. Can´t you people ever see anything good in the evolution of events and enjoy what we have instead of being constantly negative?

  5. Mario's is the go to place on Ramon Corona just west of the plaza north side. Also weekends, the cenadurea Doña Elvira, just a little west of Mario's on the other side. Adelita's, next to the church down from the plaza, is not a Mexican restaurant, however consistently good food with some Mexican dish choices.

  6. Well then, shut up about the traffic lights in SAT since you don´t live here. Your "come back" was hardly worth an answer.

  7. fyi, have seen those plastic bristle brushes elsewhere and they always seem to be displayed in barrels outside of stores. I think I've seen them in one or another hardware store in that strip of stores on the carretera's north side between Javier Mina and Revolucion. But exactly where, exactly when...quien sabe.

  8. Mazamitla and Tapalpa show what well run and cared for pueblo magicos can look like. The cynic in me after 13 years believes the Chapala politicians, regardless of label all of them IMO, got Ajijic designated just as another means to milk the town while doing little for it. The potholes proliferate and the trash piles up regardless of who sits in Chapala municipio hall. On top of that their latest milking scheme on the Ajijic Plaza is just cheapening it and destroying the character like they did to the Chapala plaza.

  9. This hospital is virtually brand new and very impressive. It was included on the list of hospitals by my insurance co and had the surgeon and doctors that we needed as well as a large blood bank.. The rooms are like a fine hotel including toiletries and a broad and full menu with a restaurant that offers fair prices and very attentive service. At this time, parking is free and very plentiful . There is a large english speaking medical staff but very little english in the insurance offices or billing offices. This is a very large facility and seems to be very modern and attractive in all ways. The hospital is located on Avenida Central 911 in Zapopan. It takes about an hour to reach it from Jocotepec. Negatives: I wish it were easier to get to; need more english speaking office staff; signage does not offer english but help is always nearby. It is very expensive.

  10. I just bought a trap and, when they become a problem, trap them and take them up the hill for release. Cat food in the trap works every time.

  14. Dennis: I DO NOT suggest anyone use MET-Life, who we are stuck with. They have tried to avoid any payments they can get away with and if it weren't for my current agent....I'd be screwed. If you are over 70 yrs old....they won't take you and if you have anything in your past that was a major health problem....then it is a no as well! We had a very "personable" agent who was very unsatisfactory in the beginning and getting rid of his group was helpful and financially a huge savings on claims as well as aggravation ....so choose wisely and it won't be cheap but it sure beats having to go into your own pocket.

  16. Can't figure out why you're still around. But we have a lot more traffic than your favorite place, so that's one consolation. Despite our best efforts, a few people here persist in injecting personal unpleasantness into the site and that is certainly a turnoff for newbies. I know you can relate to that. I think sites likes this are gradually being eclipsed by social media as well.

  20. A lot will depend on who sits on the local Puebla Mágico steering committee. If it ends up being run by developers, we're doomed.

  21. I wish I knew exactly how the money stream is working. Does the Federal Govt. pay to the local government which then hires locals to do the projects? Is it only state money that has been received from the the feds and the state hires the work done? Who is deciding what this is going to look like in the end? I know the entire Pueblo Magico program is now something different from what it was when Tapalpa was designated. Is there different oversight now? I just feel like whatever was decided was going to be spent to "improve" Ajijic is not what is actually being spent. I have been asking since the start who was going to be responsible for sidewalk repairs when poles are removed. Where are the extra cars going to park? Who is going to pay for improvements and changes to utilities once they are buried under the streets? How are CFE, Telmex, Wizz, etc going to access the infrastructure once it's buried and who pays for all that? Has any thought been given to the local businesses that will be adversely affected by changes like increased traffic and less parking, street closures, infrastructure interruptions during changeovers, restrictions to access to the plaza for seating, etc? Anyway, I'm hoping logic begins to play a major part in this mess but I'm afraid corrupt ineptitude will continue to prevail. MC is correct...charm and character are losing out all over this area and Pueblo Magico status is not going to help. Alan

  22. The only nice thing about the pueblo of Palenque are the ruins rhat are a few km away from the pueblo. The pueblo itself is pretty ugly
